great venue!

by andrea p. | insider_guru Insider Guru | Rank: 216

i went here with a friend to see a classical concert in the summer for a music class we were in. i didnt think it would be that fun but it was really cool. parking was a little difficult, but during the summer it is beautiful to go to! you can bring a picnic or a bottle of wine and sit under the stars and it is a very nice time. this would be a good place to take a summer date! tickets for the classical concerts during the summer are really cheap!

Unique Experience in Los Angeles

by M A. | top100 Top100 | Rank: 64

The Hollywood Bowl takes great advantage of the perfect summer evening weather in Los Angeles - viewing an outdoor performance while eating/drinking is fantastic. I've seen many performances here and I've never been disappointed.

Bring with you:
- Seat cushions - the seats can be hard and cold
- Food + drink - the food there is a bit fast-foody and expensive
- Binoculars - especially if you get the cheap seats in the back like I do
- Warm clothes or blanket - even in the summer it can get a touch chilly

One of the nicest places in the world

by Hyung-il N. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 9,314

Settled into the hills just north of Hollywood Blvd, you get a spectacular view of Los Angeles from the upper seating areas. I like to try and grab one dollar tickets and enjoy a night of beautiful music under the stars. The acoustics are such that anywhere you sit, even outdoors, it sounds great. And the atmosphere is unbeatable. Out in nature, with music.. of course it's only during the summer, and LA summer nights can be beautiful. Romantic, of course. I love this place.

What makes the city great....

by Adriana L. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 7,672

As much as I love this venue I most start off with a warning. The traffic around the Hollywood bowl is miserable. The best bet is to take the metro link to Hollywood and Highland and hike the rest of the way. Otherwise youll either pay a lot for valet parking or be stuck in traffic for an hour. Otherwise the amphitheater is beautiful! You have a stunning view of the hills around and the fresh night air. You get to watch the sun set. The benches are made of wood and not the most comfortable in the world but the experience is totally worth it.

Hollywood Bowl

by Roger D. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 10,341

I took my wife on a date at the Hollywood Bowl before we were married. This was where I proposed to her. She found it to be really romantic with the music playing, the stars twinkling above us sitting on the grass with our picnic basket filled with food. I bought t-shirts at the Bowl store as souvenirs for the occasion.

What was unromantic though was the traffic trying to leave the place. It can cause your blood pressure to rise.

Hollywood Bowl

by David K. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 6,695

The Hollywood Bowl has concerts and live music on certain nights. During the summer nights they have live jazz and classical bands playing music. The stadium is well made in the sense that you can hear the music perfectly fine.

Parking is the hard part of coming to the Hollywood Bowl, with many places forcing you to cram into a parking lot, where you have to wait for everyone else to leave before you can.

The Best Cultural Venue in LA

by Bruce K. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 2,601

The Hollywood Bowl is THE place to experience LA at its best. Each summer series offers up an crazy mix of classical, pop, jazz, opera, and world music. While the box seats in front will cost you a ton of dough, the cheap seats in the back can cost as little as $1. You get cheapskates treating their wives to a beautiful picnic dinner and performance, along with the city's powerful elite dining up front.

2 $1 tickets, a bottle of Charles Shaw wine (from Trader Joe's), and 1 12" Subway sandwich = less than $10!

Parking is a crazy mess. But I like the long walk from the parking lot up to the Bowl. You walk past the sausage vendors on the sidewalk and the jazz guy playing in the tunnel. Then you mill around with the huge crowd eating their picnic dinners waiting for the show.

During the summer the show begins just before the sun sets, providing the most romantic crowded space in LA. And as night falls, you're treated to the Bowl's perfect acoustics giving the cheapos in the back the same powerful sound as the fat cats in the front row.

PROS: Romantic, Cheap
CONS: Parking

Hollywood Bowl

by jennifer j. | insider_guru Insider Guru | Rank: 951

I went here for the first time last night for a concert. What an amazing venue! It's got great sound, beautiful views, and a professional and helpful staff. The bathrooms could use some updating, but weren't terrible. There is a good variety of concessions available- not cheap, but run by the Patina Group, so you know it's tasty! I opted to take one of the park-n-ride shuttles, and I definitely recommend it. It's only $5 roundtrip, and they have several locations (I chose Pasadena). You get in and out very quickly, so no waiting around stuck in traffic, plus you don't have to pay $14 to park!

PROS: Amazing sights and sounds, shuttle buses save time and money
CONS: Nothing major

Excellent Outdoor Venue

by Gus H. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 4,882

One of my favorite concert venues in Los Angeles. I recently saw the LA Philarmonic play here and was impressed with the sound of the talented musicians. The fireworks specacular was a great touch. Arrive early and have a picnic to make it a great night out. For some concerts, valet parking is availabe which I highly recommend. You will be in and out in less than no time instead of all those poor other folks trapped in their cars as they wait for jammed parking lot to clear.

PROS: Great outdoor venue
CONS: Parking can be painful unless you valet

Romantic Evening Out

by Carleen K. | insider_guru Insider Guru | Rank: 1,661

The Hollywood Bowl makes for a great evening out. You can picnic out on the grass while listening to classical musicunder the stars , one of the many types of concerts they hold every year. Acoustics are great and even if you are located way in the back, you will still be able to hear everything clearly (although you may not be able to see much). Parking is a hassle though, so try and park a little aways from the Bowl and walk; otherwise, you may have to wait a while for everyone else to leave the lot.

World Class Venue

by Anonymous

Beautiful venue. There's something magical about sitting under the stars as you watch world-class entertainment. Tickets are priced for every budget and you can bring your own food & wine. If you can afford it, get box seats so that you'll have your own table to place your food & drinks on -- you can even have a gourment meal delivered directly to your box from their on-site restaurant, Patina. Shows that include a fireworks display are dazzling. Good parking is expensive but worth the price if you can exit the lot quickly instead of being stuck in a stacked parking situation.

Reasonably-priced tickets available; create your own series offer

by I. B. | insider_guru Insider Guru | Rank: 1,397

I had never been to the Hollywood Bowl, so when I got their flyer in the mail, I knew I had to buy some tickets. I decided to go with their create-your-own series offer, because you get a sixth pair of tickets free. My only complaint is that they said they were mailing out tickets in May, but in reality they didn't mail mine out until June. But overall, I look forward to enjoying the Bowl with my binoculars!
