Ratings_icons bull, its Xmas eve & the place is CLOSED!! False advertising!! Grrr

The tribes have spoken. Pretty much what you are reading about 24 hr fitness on Colorado Blvd is true. DIRTY.. things are sometimes broken. They have a shower running constantly, noones fixing it. They are probably singlehandedly contributing to global warming. The male janitor walks into the womens bathroom late at night.. uncomfortable taking a shower at that time. The high pressure regional sales manager there one day sucked me in by telling me that he could give me a "student rate". The people are not friendly, but then I would think they would be. Maybe Im just going at the wrong times though. I was once charged a $15 overdraft fee when I changed banks and filled out forms way ahead of time, simply because some rude clerk there wasnt paying attention. When I tried to get my $15 back I was basically ignored, and they tried to cryptically explain "Why" this happened to me, and I tried to explain to THEM that I had filled out paperwork and that the person working that day simply did not follow up on it. They wanted a name and of course I didnt have one as I did not think I would be having a problem. I wrote a letter to the head of the company once via online about the filthy showers, and NOTHING was done. They really DON'T GIVE AN F. The only thing its good for are ellipticals and treadmills, weights if you want to use them. Try going late at night, not in the evening or day time.. thats when its roomy and empty. Thats when you'll find me usually. What I would like to know is, if this is cheap, how much are the expensive gyms?? What do you get out of joining an expensive gym? A false sense of superiority?

Ratings_icons 24 Hour Fitness is Disgusting but Inexpensive

i rejoined this 24 hours after being away for 5 years and it's only blocks from my apartment. i love the re-adopted use of the star news building's basement and it feel really urban. i also shopped around and did a prepaid for a 3 year deal with no contract so it eneded up to be about 15.50 a month and i am sorry you just can't beat that price. do your home work before you sign up for anything, kids.

however the saying "you get what you paid for" is true! the first 24 hour fitness at this location had been so, so. not memorable at all. the current experience (this is weeek 3) is so far just short of horrible.

i don't know how to swim and have a pool at my apt so i don't have the need for a pool but everytime i do warm-up right next to the the pool i noticed the water had been dirty and smells really bad. there were few swimmers but not sure why they would want to be in that water.

the sauna is unsanitized and it's not meant for people to go in dripping wet of dirty pool water and the floor is disgusting.

one day i made a mistake of doing my warm- ups on just outside of the glass doors on the main level over looking the pool and one employee came and screamed at me. it was my mistake for not reading what was posted on the opened glass doors but he was sooooooooooooooooooooooooooo freaking rude.

my current membership also gives me 3 personal training sessions and my trainer called me 3 hours before the session and canceled said he scheduled me as a mistake. i called and left 3 messages (one voice mail on his cell, one at the club and the receptionist took down my #) and another in the club on a piece of paper persoanlly. it had been another week and still no call backs!!!!

the worse about this place is the locker rooms and the sink area (never used the shower) and they are just absolutely the worse. it made me feel like being in a 3ed world. most gas stations bathrooms are cleaner than their locker room...... with all this said i am still loving the prices i piad though.

Ratings_icons 24 Hour Fitness is A CREEPY PLACE

ANNA L.

This is the filthiest gym on earth. I would not recommend this place even if you can get a membership for free. I have seen trash, earplugs, empty water bottles and dirty socks laying on the floor of the pool area for months. I guess they don't know what a broom is. The pool looks like a crocodile pond with cloudy greenish water. My recommendation.. don't throw your money..

Ratings_icons I HATE THIS PLACE!

steve m.

The filthy pool is closed AGAIN, this time for "3 or 4 weeks" according to the staff. DON'T JOIN THIS PLACE, it is filthy, it is broken down, the little prick that works in the morning is very unfriendly. This place is a mess that has never heard of cleaning, fixing or being professional to paying customers. I just got off the phone asking why the pool is yet again closed and she told me the filter is being fixed! Well it never worked in the first place, I have never seen the water clean there! I have also worked as a plumber for 25 years and replacing a filter takes hours not days so obviously these people are just as skilled at lying as they are everything else!

Ratings_icons 24 Hour Fitness is DISGUSTING!

The pool is filthy and closed a lot of the time, the bubbler in the jacuzzi has been screwed up for more than a year. I go early in the morning and the little dweeb at the counter is downright unfriendly, I hate this place and wish I had never joined.

Ratings_icons 24 Hour Fitness: I received Great Service!

Jennifer P.

After shopping many gyms, I was extremely impressed with the quality of service I received from the Downtown Pasadena location. The gym has plenty of cardio machine and free weights. All and all the atmosphere is lovely, the machines are pretty well kept and combined with the extraordinary service I received from the nice young gentleman that helped me I am satisfied with my choice. From word of mouth I have found that I received a great deal and an amazing price on personal training... ask for Oscar he's awesome. He helped me out plus had enough patience to answer all my mother's questions who seems to always ramble on and on. Good Luck!!

Ratings_icons Yikes!

Matteo B.

I belonged to this club for six months before finally saying enough is enough. The monthly dues were cheap, only about $30, so I joined and was kind of motivated to stay. But even the low price couldn't keep me.

First, the locker rooms are filthy, especially the floor. I never wanted to go in there; used the showers once and never again. Second, I thought it would be nice to swim, but the pool appeared green and unsanitary and was always crowded with people who would jump in straight after sitting in the sauna-- all sweaty and disgusting. It got to the point where I stopped looking forward to going to work out. It was like going to a dungeon.

The weight room was so crowded some nights that you couldn't even walk from one machine to the next. It was like an aquarium jammed with schools of fish.

But the worst thing was the staff, some of whom were like thugs. I have belonged to several gyms, and this is the worst I've ever gone to.

Ratings_icons Strike Two

This is the second 24 Hour Fitness I've belonged to. I left the first one for Gold's which was an infinitely better environment. I ended up at this one because I changed jobs and it was more convenient and thought I would give it a try. I lasted two months and have had enough. I concur with all the negative comments. I had a trainer chew me out for picking the wrong mat -- he had all the interpersonal skills of a Marine DI. That was it. I am not at Bodies in Motion and it is a much nicer environment. Bottom line: you get what you pay for.

This is a great value if you get the right price. 3 story old place, lots of machines, well kept up, can be crowded, but not if you work off hours or even 2 or three hours after 9-5 work day. I got a 24.99 rate which includes working out at the better clubs. And here's how I think that may have worked. You go to their website, sign up for a free pass. Then don't use it and after a while they send you an "offer you can't refuse" like the one I got. This is only a guess as to why I got the "special" email, but it does seem logical as the rate is well below their standard forty something dollars. Don't know what all the whining on previous entries is about, maybe the management has changed, but this is definitely one of the better gyms I have worked out at and I've worked out all over the country for the past 25 years.

Ratings_icons The worst gym in the Pasadena area

Always too crowded especially after work, it's hard to get on a machine most of the time. It's always hot and humid like they have a ventilation problem. The machines are dirty and several of them are always broken. Disgusting locker rooms also, I would not recommend this place.

Ratings_icons Overcrowded...STOP adding new members!!!

I hate 24 hour fitness...they add too many new members and never fix their machines enough.

I am so sick of waiting in line and having people wait in line for me!

Ratings_icons Crowded, Big Box Gym with Plenty of Amenities

Noel A.

As far as 24 Hour Fitness locations go, this is a pretty good one. Lap pool, sauna, steam room, basketball, two levels of cardio equipment, a very nice variety of free weights and machines. Like other gyms in this mega chain, it tends to get packed during peak times as sales consultants hawk memberships in quantity from their bullpen of desks. The staff is consistently friendly.

Most of the gym is underground in a windowless industrial looking compound. There are lots of stairs, which can be killer by the end of a tough leg workout. But the whole setup adds to the excellent level of energy throughout.

As with all big name gyms, the sales team employs consistent pressure techniques to get you to sign on the dotted line. 24 Hour Fitness claims that it is not a "car sales" type operation and that they do not negotiate. However, understand that they actually have lots of different membership plans at varying prices, so if you don't like a certain deal, demand to see other plans. Don't be pressured that it's the "final day" for a certain special or that you can only get a "first visit discount." There is always some kind of promotion going on, and they'll be happy to take your business as long as it helps them make their goals. It's a very sales-driven organization.

One final caveat... this is a busy part of Pasadena, so parking is tricky. You can park in an adjacent lot or try for a space on the street. They'll validate during the day.

PROS: Energy, friendly staff, plenty of amenities
CONS: Can be crowded, sales driven organization, parking

Ratings_icons Lots of cardio machines

Mandi B. | insider_guru Insider Guru | Rank: 287

This location does get crowded. Yet they do have a ton of cardio machines and i can always find one. The weights get really crowded and sometimes it can be annoying. Also the parkin gis a little tricky because on the street you can only park for an hour. There is a little parking garage across the street on Union that you can park for free for 90 minutes.

Ratings_icons i want a better gym

after being a member for 3 years because of my contract, 24 hr. fitness has gotten worse and worse. pool always dirty and crowded. can't swim after work and now the times are restricted.can't swim earlier than 5am or after 9 or 10 pm. hrs. are (not really 24hrs.for swimming).locker rooms are rundown and dirty, showers barely work or not at all.(10 showers and 5 work). Management never responds to complaints, it's "take it or leave it". I wish there was a better place for swimming laps than this place. If anyone konws, please let me know.

PROS: easy access from home and work
CONS: dirty, overcrowded, dilapidated, staff don't care! just want your money

this 24 hour location is not the best one that i have been to. the parking is really bad, but it is within walking distance of my appartment so that is ok. there are a ton of cardio machines but it seems like they are always pretty busy. i really like spin class, so my roomate and i were going to go one day. we got there 15 minutes early to the 6 am class but the class was already full. to get into the classes you have to pay a dollar the day before to reserve a spot. i think i would rather just drive a little bit and go to a less crowded gym that had better access to parking. the service was ok, but i thought it was weird that the girl at the front was eating a salad just out on the front counter that early in the morning. that doesnt really have anything to do with my workout though.

Pros: They have a lot of machines. Many TVs you can tune into with a radio headset while working out. 3 stories which is cool. when you exit, you have to climb more stairs. Less expensive with corporate account.
Cons: Machines always dirty. Sometimes with loose parts. I asked them to clean more often, they said no. Pools of dried sweat no matter what time you go. Pay for parking after 90 or 120 minutes. No windows, cell phones/pages don't work. So I can't go when I'm on call.

This is my second 24 Hour Fitness club to visit, and I am always impressed by their ability to fit their clubs into any type of space. This particluar club in Pasadena is at the corner of Colorado and Oakland and is entirely underground. This "Sport" version of their club offers a full circuit of free weights and machines. For cardio you can hit up the treadmills, elliptical machines, or shoot some hoops on the B-ball court. For a cool down take a lap in the pool or sweat the fat off in the sauna. To top it off you can come in for rockclimbing on their rock wall. Service is friendly and helpful and you can't beat the convenience of a club with showers and changing rooms.
I lucked out and got in on an "All-Club" membership at a great rate, so keep an eye out for deals at 24 Hour Locations that may not be the one you will primarily use.

This 24 hour fitness is a sport club, which costs more. They offer a pool, along with water aerobics and classes, which is different than the regular clubs. The parking for this gym stinks - unless you walk its hard to find a spot. Also its a funky set up, doing down a few stories. Its trying to be uberurban. It does a relatively good job at that style.

Most importantly they have fully mirrored walls so that after each excerise I can see my biceps bulge out of my half-shirt.

This gym offers lots of equipment and a wide variety of work out options. A pool, a rock climbing wall, and a nice array of guided classes round out the amenities. The atmosphere is a bit dungeon-esque as it is all underground since somebody thought that sunlight was over rated. All in all, a good place to sweat

Horrible place to work out - the staff are uniquely gifted in their lack of ability to offer any kind of customer service and the information they give out seems plied from them with 17th c. torture devices. If you have a choice, spend a bit more and save yourself the trouble of having to deal with these people. Plus, the overcrowding after work and even later in the evening makes this gym club more of a club than a gym.

Underground facility with no windows, but a very cool environment. Have a climbing wall and pool. Personal trainers are good for motivaiton but not as skilled as I would have liked. Facilities are nice, but locker rooms could use more frequent cleaning. You can use any of the clubs around the country -- great if you travel a lot. Extended hours are great.
