This resterant has a warm-small town atmosphere with a clean decor. The employees are the highlight to this resterant. You feel welcome from the time your greeted at the door until you are invited back as you leave. The owners must be doing something right because they have very little turnover with thier employees.
They offer consistant personal touch attention. We actually look forward to a visit from a familar face. We like that you can " have it your way " without restrictions or rejection. When they add an item to the menu they point it out and ask for thier customers feedback. Since we are finally getting a variety of resterants in the area, we are TRULY hoping we don't lose this WONDERFUL LOYAL CAFE. We are hoping the Large Chains don't squeeze them out. It would be OUR LOSS !!!
The food is consistantly presented and always seasoned well. Prices are very reasonable. Our favorite is a Sliced/Steak dish w/a wonderful dark sauce served with angel hair pasta instead of Fries. Wow ! - Pizza is best in the area ! Good
variety of Salads and Great Deserts. Wide variety of Beers and Wine - Last but not least it is always clean and the restrooms are always tended to ! Critical issue!

Johnny's has great pizza, and does a great Cobb Salad. The atmosphere is average, but they keep it pretty clean. It's a good option for those looking for some decent italian, but not somewhere I would go regularly.

I have been to Juan's four or five times now and am not impressed. The salsa tasted like marinara sauce, the chips are just ok. The margaritas are decent but are a little weak and sweet. As far as the food, it's mediocre is fairly high priced for traditional Mexican fare. The Al Pastor taco comes out without the tradition sauce, no onions and little cilantro. The flavor of the pork is good and has a nice crisp to it but that's about all that is going on with it. The chile relleno is good but the sauce is overly sweet and has too much cinnamon in it.

The guacamole is not exciting and doesn't taste house made. The taquitos are filled with bland chicken that had a chunk of fat in it. Overall not impressed and is very expensive for what you get.

Margaritas are amazing! They have many high end tequilas stalked in the bar. Chips and salsa are just so, so...but remember it's authentic (chips & salsa are really an American thing). The food is some of the BEST mexican in the Portland area! You can not compare. Try the crab/shrimp chile rellenos, they are to die for and no one makes better. If you don't like seafood, try the plain. They are better than I've ever had in the US. Everyone at our table ordered something different and we loved every entree. It's something different and fun, and upscale. Portland needed a place like this, rather than the usual "chain" type restaurants which smother their food in oily velveta type cheese product. This is the real thing, fresh and amazing with a PNW touch!

Pros: Authentic, unusual Mexican cuisine. Not downtown. Tequilla choices, Fresh food.

Cons: Chips/salsa, A bit expensive, but worth it!
