.

I do not use this description lightly. I was literally poisoned by the rancid chicken at Koji Osakaya in Gresham, OR. I ordered the chicken yakisoba and took a couple bites and something just seemed off. I then tried the chicken by itself and it had a rancid musty flavor to it. I tried to add some ginger to see if that would help with the flavor, and it didn't. After taking 5 or 6 bites, I just couldn't eat anymore. The broccoli that was served with the dish had also seen better days. Shortly after returning home, my stomach started to ache which quickly sent me to the restroom for the rest of the evening. I've never experienced such severe stomach cramps before. It hit my entire body like the I had the full blown flu, all within 1 hour of consuming only just a small amount the rancid chicken yakisoba. On another note, the restaurant's floors were filthy. The booster seat they gave us for our son was covered in some sort of stickiness and dried food. When my son accidentally spilled his full bowl miso soup, the waitress was kind enough to help us clean it up but didn't offer a replacement. She could have at least gotten us new napkins after it was obvious we used the only 3 we had to soak up the soup. This is the first review I have ever written about anything and I'm just sorry that it has to be a BAD review. However, I felt compelled to reach out to anyone who might take the time to read these reviews before making the same mistake I did. No one should have to experience the severe stomach pain, or have to uncontrollably purge poison out of their body after eating anything!

The waitress was cute and pleasant enough. She made small talk and was a pleasure to have. She did forget to wipe the table when asked though, as it was sticky.
I ordered some sushi, which was just great. I did not like the crab paste in the roll, but the tuna sashimi was fresh, very lean and just perfect.
The problem here is the cook. My brother ordered the grilled salmon, for one, and it was grilled then deep fried. The waitress agreed. What he was left with was a dry piece of salmon jerky.
The tempura was undercooked, as you could tell by looking at it. It was just too light. When you held it up, it fell limp.
The sushi was small, but not bad if you got the special, as it was the best deal considering the size of the fish vs the cost of the platter.
The tonkatsu was listed on the menu as a breaded cutlet, which is what it is suppose to be. However, it was more like pork hamburger patties breaded and then deep fried. Not bad if you like meat consistent to baby food. However, we were expecting an actual piece of meat, a real cutlet.
I loved the domburi sauce on my tempura domburi.
They were more than eager to substitute the zucchini in the tempura for another onion piece, as with the seafood tempura platter, they were happy to sub the squid for another piece of salmon. It was just under done, and left in a warmer until it was room temperature (at best) and cold.
The special sushi roll I got was pre-made, as you could tell by the refrigerator cold rice, which was milky white on the outside and clear on the inside, typical of refrigerator rice.
Tara the waitress was cute and sweet and tried to please. We left her a good tip.
The tea was cold, and when we asked for a refill, the guy forgot to fill everyone's cup. We asked for a kettle of tea, which is normal in traditional japanese restaurants, but were told that they had only one teapot in the entire restaurant because an ex-employee broke all the others.
However, Tara ended up bringing us our very own kettle. I guess the boy knew not what he was talking about.
Tara = good.
Boy waiter = mediocre.
Girl cook = terrible.
Food = good.
Price = rather high for what you got and the quality it was served. Except the sushi fish, which was great!

It's sad that it's location is near Mt. Hood. They could do a lot better down west. Compared to other Koji's, it is one of best. The service is good, place is roomy, food is good, and the sushi is excellent. You don't have to order an expensive meal to get full. The donburis are big enough to fill you up and the price is right. I really like their deserts too. I would go there for the cheese cake. It's so good. Definitely, you should give this place a try.

Compared to other Japanese restaurants, this is a very nice, roomy and relaxing place! This restaurant is pretty authentic, compared to others that I've been to. They play Japanese and American music here, which is pretty cool. Their sushi rolls are delicious and their deserts are really good too. Compared to other Asian restaurants, the service here is pretty good. I have eaten at many Japanese restaurants, and I have many foreign Japanese friends. They agree that this place is one of the best in Oregon. Pros: Great food, friendly service, cute waitresses (I'm a guy). I love coming here! Con: Service sometimes can be slow if it's really busy, but understandable. ^^

My husband and I recently moved to the area and were on the hunt for some good sushi, so we gave this place a try. We LOVE it! Their sushi is excellent quality and very tasty, although a little expensive. The restaurant is very clean and the staff is friendly.

If you like overpriced, bad-tasting Japanese food, then this is the restaurant for you! The meat I ordered with my meal was extremely undercooked and had a strange taste and odor. My husbands meal was supposed to be teriyaki chicken, but the teriyaki was nonexistent. The California Rolls were small and made with old avocado and cucumbers. We have eaten at many other Japanese restaurants and have never seen such poor quality food. We felt cheated having to pay $50 for such a bad meal.

The food was great! Service was quick. Decent price range for a dinner entree that comes soup and salad. Restaurant was clean and tidy. They also have kids menu. Great place to eat with family or friends.

PROS: Convenient parking.
CONS: Food might take awhile to come out but is worth the wait!
