Harborview is a joke. They are utterly incompetent. They are simply a bandaid to a seeping wound. A great reflection of the failure of tax payer dollars to provide even decent care to the citizens of Seattle. You would be better to die on the street than let any of the incompetent morons there lay their hands on you

If you are anything other than near death, avoid Harborview at all costs. Without question the worst medical care my child has ever experienced. My son waited 26 hours for emergency plastic surgery to his face after having glass tear him up in an explosion. His life was not in danger. He was not in extreme pain. He just needed to get his face sewn up and get some interior damage to his tear ducts repaired. We arrived at 1AM Sunday moring. He was finally taken to surgery at 3AM Monday morning. The nurses took special care to make sure we knew we were the lowest possible priority for them. Some were reasonably nice. Some were really mean. I was flabbergasted. The care he eventually received was good-we'll see how well the wounds heal and how much scarring he has-but this is a place where the staff has pretty much had the compassion beaten out of them by years of high intensity trauma cases. Some kid from the suburbs with his face torn up? Get serious. A boring case of no consequence to anyone there. And they'll make sure you know that.

In July of 2003, I suffered a ruptured brain aneurysm and was rushed by helicopter to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. I am totally convinced that I owe my life to my neurosurgeon and the wonderful staff that cared for me during my three weeks in the ICU. I've been in other hospitals since, and none compare to Harborview in the way that they integrate customer service into their care plan. They truly make you feel like you deserve the best care in the world, and they go out of their way to make you comfortable. I could go on and on about the nurses there and how just absolutely lovely and professional people they are. God forbid that your health should fail, but if so, count yourself lucky if you end up at Harborview, I sure do.
