The bellingham public library is great! They have a huge fun safe childrens area downstairs and a huge non fiction section for adults. The librarian and staff are very helpful and you can reserve books and other material online or by phoning and its a snap to pick it up its there ready and waiting for you. They have an easy checkout system and the lines are never bad.

PROS: fun childrens area
CONS: I wish they were open later for us night owls.

As the daughter of a former librarian, I am conditioned to visit various public libraries, whenever possible, esp. the local variety. The BPL is your typical example. The children's area is downstairs and is formidable. However, the pre-teen/outright teen section is sparce. It's easy enough to reserve books online, saving time and frustration for busy parents and our children alike. Call ahead for hours (closed on national holidays) and a second location can be found in the book friendly community of Fairhaven (very limited hours, look online for details, or call.)

PROS: the whole shebang, two local libraries in the b'ham area
CONS: limited hours, limited parking, limited tomes for teens
