Ratings_icons Accomadation Issues

UNLV has problems making sure that there is enough classes to accomadate all their students. They also have serious parking issues. Even when you register as a senior you still are not guaranteed a spot in a class.

Ratings_icons Not Ivy League, but darn good

Jennifer W. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 12,451

I have been attending this university since June 2004. I transferred from CCSN after 2 it! This college has been rated as one of the top ten least expyears. Compared to the Community college, UNLV is far superior. I know that it is a little more expensive, but so worth ensive state universities compared to the rest of the country. I personally have to drive a longer distance but the extra time and money and tuition are small compared to the personal and academic growth and personal connections I have gained. This is an especially good school if you are interested in the hotel or business aspect.

PROS: Huge Personal growth potential
CONS: Big investment in time and money

Ratings_icons Great School

The University of Nevada Las Vegas is a great school. They have many good programs there. It is a pretty big school. They have really good law and medical schools. It is as good and any university. And youre only a few miles from the Vegas strip so you can go party after you study, ha ha ha.

Ratings_icons Good school, bad location

Beth D. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 2,985

UNLV is a very good school for business and hotel management majors. They offer a variety of other classes as well and have a full sports program. The only drawback is that the campus is located in a bad spot in my opinion. It is very difficult to get to the campus since you have to cross the busiest part of the Strip to get there. I live in NorthWest Vegas and chose not to go to UNLV simply because the commute is so terrible.

Ratings_icons The nations top commuter school!

Yep, the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) has been one of the country's top commuter schools as most of the students live off of campus. Either way, you'll be able to get a good education at there especially if you are looking for a hotel administration degree.

Other things to note regarding their academic program is that UNLV is the only university in the state with a school of Dental Medicine and a school of Law. On the otherhand, you'll have to go to the other major university in the state, the University of Nevada, Reno (UNR) for the medical school.

The campus itself has been changing throughout the years with the addition of several new buildings like the library, Alumni building, new dormatories, etc. Although, in my opinion, it is still a hodge-podge of university buildings with no common look or feel as compared with the University of Arizona that has requirement for all of their buildings to have at least a certain amount of brick used in their construction.

The cost of tuition is very affordable at UNLV and is probably one of the reasons why UNLV might be worth a look especially if you are a Nevada state resident.

PROS: Low tuition costs and one of the best hotel administration programs.
CONS: Lack of a "real" campus life like with other major colleges.

Ratings_icons Great place to learn

UNLV is a great school with a great learning environment. The library is awesome and the academic programs are terrific and worthy of recognition. Most of the professors that Ive had so far are all cool and they really do seem to want their students to learn. Theyre all glad and willing to help out students about their subjects. I transferred from two other universities and so far, UNLV is the only one that has an academic staff this accommodating to the students.

Ratings_icons good school

It has a pretty nice campus and nice landscaping. There are a lot of good professors but of coarse there is a few bad apples. I would recommend asking other students before you take a class.

Ratings_icons Not the worst, not the best

Linda H. | insider Insider | Rank: 32,603

UNLV is mostly attended by locals. The tuition is very cheap for in-state students. The school is widely known for their hotel management and business courses. Parking can be a hassle. For such a big attendance of students, there are lack of school spirits. It is a friendly atmosphere and easily to make friends.

For each person has a different style of learning, UNLV is not for everyone. It was an okay school, but some of the professors have major ego problems. The library is wonderful, parking is pretty good, and some departments are great. The german professors are really good, and some of the math ones are too.

Ratings_icons Cool College

If you are planning to attend the Univerisity of Nevada Las Vegas, or any college for that matter, you really need to talk to the people who attend there. I am currently enrolled and I think the classes are good but the process and the "core classes" are a joke and a buisness move just to make some money.
