I have 4 children and they all go here. The only one that has ever had any issues is my youngest and that is because she doesn't like stuff on her face, and that is where the mask sits.
The office staff could be a bit better at informing you of changes. I took my youngest in to have 2 baby teeth pulled as the 2 adult teeth had started to come out behind them. They were great at getting us in quickly and the appointment took less time than I expected. She didn't have any apparent pain and spent most of the day at home with me acting like her normal self after a couple hours.
The only issue I have is that when I took her in to get her teeth pulled, the canceled her cleaning that was scheduled for a month later and didn't inform me. I now have to take just her back in to get her teeth cleaned as they couldn't do it the same day my other 3 got theirs done. What tooth extraction has to do with a regular cleaning or why it was canceled is still unknown to me.
I would suggest making sure you confirm any future appointments at each visit to avoid this issue.

I advise finding somewhere else to take your kids. I speaking from a clinic in SC, however they are all ran the same way. Their motto is in and out in a hurry. These doctors are actually in a competition to see how many patients they can see in a day. They have some sort of quota they have to meet so they can get a bonus. In my opinion I would not want my child rushed during a procedure and treated like a nothing more than a number. The doctors don't even spend time with the patients or the parents, the Assistant does all of the talking and gives all the information. I recommend taking your children elsewhere.

I absolutely love the Small Smiles in Boise. I don't understand why everyone says they aren't allowed to go back, I have never once been told I couldn't go back with my daughter who is 4. I went and sat right next to her chair during cleaning and sit in the same room with her when she has her caps done. I love that they accept medicaid it took me about 20 phone calls to find a place that did. My daughter lays there the whole time and they are always so kind to her. They hide the numbing shot in their laps and are so sneaky about giving it that she doesn't even realize when they are. They explain every tool to her and it makes it very exciting for her. She absolutely loves going back!

NEVER EVER take your young children there. I took my daughter there when she was 1 1/2 for her first visit. Since I was new at the whole taking children to dentists thing, they somehow convinced me that it would be much better for her to go back without me. When I asked if I could watch through their little window they told me that room was for talking with parents and therefore I could not be in there. So it started off okay with a dental assistant younger than me telling me what would happen. She explained that she would take my (already nervous) daughter back to the offices and introduce her to everyone to get her comfortable. Give her a stuffed animal and they would just look at her teeth. So about 30 minutes later.... a long time to brush teeth. They called me back. My baby came out hyperventilating, tears streaming down her face. All around her mouth was bright red. Immediately I felt horrible... I knew they had lied to me. They said she did fine but just got scared right when they were brushing. Later that day the bruises started to show. Obvious finger print bruises all around her mouth. I could not believe what I was seeing. Since when do u bruise from just brushing teeth???? It took me 2 years before she would go see another dentist. And even then she was terrified. I will never put any of my children in a situation like that again. They are horrible people. The next dentist I took my child to see ( not at ss) said she had cavities that needed filled. After the 1st visit she wanted me to make an appt to have my daughter put to sleep... breathing tube and all... at the hospital to have them filled. WTF? She said she could never work on a child that was as scared as she was. So I changed dentists again. Now I go see one in Nampa. Long drive but sooooo worth it. My daughter did NOT have to be put to sleep. She did NOT cry. She is always so excited to go see him. If I want to go back to check in on my kids, it's absolutely fine! Always do your research and always get a second opinion if you are not comfortable. Just because our children are on medicaid does not mean that we don't have a choice and that they don't deserve the same care as those who are not. Really one star is far too many for this crap hole... If I could give less, I would.

I also was upset when they said I could not go back...F that! The dentist we got really hurt my daughter when giving her an oral shot. I know from experience ( I have 3 children) that it should not hurt that much and it took a long time of prodding to get a different dentis! This is NOT the best place.

KEEP YOUR CHILDREN AWAY FROM THESE ABUSIVE BUTCHER SHOPS!!!! Just type in Small Smiles Investigation on YouTube to see multiple news documentarys on how they will not allow parents in the same room with their kids and will remove multiple teeth, perform multiple root canals and sometimes with NO NOVACANE WHATSOEVER basically TORTURING CHILDREN. This is a MALPRACTICE, CHILD ABUSE BUTCHER SHOP FROM H-E-L-L! Please, if you love your children, NEVER TAKE THEM HERE! Tell all the parents you know to boycott this place so we can finally get them shut down forever so innocent children NEVER have to be ABUSED again!!!
These places are nationwide and really need to be shut down!!!
I hope all the sadistic staff nationwide are arrested for child abuse and locked away for life!!!

I work with a lot of families and have heard many complaints about Small Smiles. I just wanted to recommend Treasure Valley Pediatric Dentistry for anyone looking for a great pediatric dentist. Dr. Rogers is amazing! I have two little boys I take there and couldn't be happier with the service we receive!

I took my 6 year old daughter to this office and was told she needed 7 crowns and also needed a tooth pulled. They scared me saying that her one front tooth was so badly infected that the infection could spread to her sinus and then to her brain. That terrified me so I agreed to let them to the one tooth. Two days later that tooth fell out with the crown attached. I took her to a different dentist with the tooth in a container and copies of her chart with xrays . Guess what? That tooth they crowned was ready to fall out and had no decay and there was no need for all the other crowns either. I am beside myself with anger knowing I allowed my child to be put through that when it wasn't even needed. What a horrible thing to do to children. Why and how do they get away with this?

Take it from a Small Smiles employee of many years who does not recommend anyone she knows nor lets her own children come to this place, do not bother going there. It depends on the doctors mood that day if parents are allowed to come back, we are encouraged as assistants to make excuses as to why you cannot. Personally, I do not make excuses, I just let everyone come back if they ask and let the doctor look me in the eye because the policy states that one person may accompany the child back.
It is a very rushed system like a cattle call consisting of a morning meeting of the quota that needs to me made. Oh, you did 98 patients yesterday that is down from the day before so you need to get it up if you want your bonus. Well screw the bonus if the kids are not getting the care that they need and are being rushed out and treated as if they are just a number.
This is exactly how everything including the employees are treated - all just numbers. Lets all just compete. If you complain or think that something is upsetting you might as well kiss your job goodbye. Welcome to Small Smiles. There are no pediatric dentists and there never have been. All the dentists get trained in the Pueblo clinic in about a week to handle children and most of the assistants are hired of the street with little no training, which makes it wonderful for the rest of us that actually have training and know how to do things the right way by sterilizing instruments and treating children well. Many of the good assistants are on our way to getting out of this "dental office" and on our way to bigger and better things. I just can not wait until the day that Small Smiles is closed down for all their mistreatment of patients needs and care as well as the care of their employees.
My identity is hidden because that is how you have to handle things with Small Smiles as an employee.

I have taken my son twice to small smiles in boise. Today will be his third trip. I dont understand reviews saying parents had no idea what was going on with their children. I watch like a hawk on the other side of a glass window for my sons apointment. Im only 30 feet away from him if that. He loves the dentists and their assistants , is a member of the no cavities club and likes going back. He likes the prizes and bag of goodies and heraing he is cavity free. I have a couple complaints. My son has a spot on his back molar that was cause by genetics or a fever when his tooth bud first started, They always scrap it even though I tell them its not a cavity and they admit they see in the x-ray it's not! I will yell today if they do it again. Secondly they have some scary stuff written in their paper work you must sign,. It states that you must agree to let them restrain your child with force if needed. ie drugs, straps . hands, etc. I always write on the paper work NO WAY in detail and tell the assistants and front desk the same thing in detail. So far so good I like them as long as my son need to use them they are okay.

I took my kids to small smiles yesterday in Boise. I was appalled by the policy that I wouldn't be allowed to be with my kids especially my 21 month old. I was told that they would get me if she was crying. Long story short when she was returned to me she was hysterical and apparently had been for quite sometime, but I was told that she had started crying when she saw her brothers. My other kids, her brothers, reported to me (without prompting) that my daughter had been hysterical the entire time. I would never recommend them to anyone else and everyone should read news reports from other states prior to taking their kids there esp. the one from 9news in Colorado. If only I had researched it more thoroughly!!

This is so terrible to read!!! It is unimaginable, but what's worst is that my local tv channel wjla in Wash, DC investigated one of these clinics in Maryland where the majority of the patients are medicaid recipients. A 4 year old child was videoed crying hysterically and strapped in the chair with a papoose to keep him from moving. He was crying uncontrollably as 4 dental assistants and the dentist surrounded him. His nose was even pinched to force him to open his mouth. My prayers go out to all the children and the parents who have suffered at the hands of these monsters.

I just got home from my son's appointment with Small Smiles. They wouldn't let me go back with him and he is TWO YEARS OLD! He had some cavaties and over an hour and a half later when I finally was taken back to see him, I found him in the corner of a small room, on the floor crying hysterically and looking scared to death. They called the dentist back and he explained to me that while they were drilling, a piece of the drill broke off and probably nicked the back of his throat and that I would need to watch for bleeding and he would probably complain about a soar throat for a few days. He went on to explain that when the piece broke off, my son swallowed it but started gagging and threw it up. I find it completley inexcusable that, while all this was happening, I was kept out in the waiting room and my two year old son was back there getting shots, vomitting, and afraid. I will NEVER go back to Small Smiles and I find it strange that it is policy for a two year old to experience something traumatizing like that, especially when he is all alone.

I have been taking my children to small smiles dental clinic since it opened here in Boise. I really enjoy the fact the my kids seem to feel comfortable enough to go back with the nurses and the dentist with out myself being with them, but at the same time I can watch them through a window if I have any concerns. They send out little post cards to the kids reminding them of there next appointment and that also puts a smile on my kids face.

I took my 3 year old son to the clinic last week and when I arrived was told I could NOT be with my son while he had his teeth cleaned and I also wasn't allowed to watch him from the window. I asked to be with him twice and was turned down. It wasn't until my husband demanded to be with him or else he was taking my son and leaving, that my husband was finally allowed to go in the back and be with him while he had his teeth cleaned. I don't think the policy of the office is appropriate; parents should be encouraged to be with their young children, and they definitely should not be turned down if they want to watch them from the window or want to be with them. I had made another appt and later sent them a letter cancelling the appt and gave them my reasons and concerns, they didn't even bother to contact me.

PROS: Accepts 100% medicaid
CONS: Cannot be with your young child while he/she is having dental work done

I took my two children in today for some extensive dental work and my 6-yr. old son actually told me he liked the dentist and asked when they would return! I was VERY impressed with the way they keep parents up-to-date on the progress with your children. The facility is beautiful and EVERY employee there does a wonderful job. Thank you for the great experience and my kids are thankful too.

PROS: MEDICAID is accepted 100%. Where else can you get that?
CONS: None that I saw.

My children received nothing but tons of love when they went here for a checkup and for my son to have a cavity filled. This place and the employees were excellent with my children. It is clean, good atmosphere, friendly people. They except insurance and medicaid and have fair prices. Would highly recommend them! Excellently located too.

My children received nothing but tons of love when they went here for a checkup and for my son to have a cavity filled. This place and the employees were excellent with my children. It is clean, good atmosphere, friendly people. They except insurance and medicaid and have fair prices. Would highly recommend them! Excellently located too.
