i came to suburbia for the first time a few weeks ago. i was really nervous about changing stylists, but MARY put my mind at ease with her in depth consultation and her extensive knowledge about her trade. she gave me the best haircut i've ever had! that's saying a lot because i've tried numerous stylists in the past. MARY, you have a client for life! can't wait to try color with you!

because I might not be able to schedule an appt if people start to find out what I learned when I went to Suburbia for the first time last week not knowing what to expect. Two friends of mine have been raving about Christine Short, one of the stylists there. Well, I have to say they were right- she did an awesome job with my hair. My hair had kind of become a thing...I've been on this endless search and no one could get it right. (I'd been wondering, what had happened to all the good stylists) It was straight and long and a color brown that, well, honestly I've never been too thrilled about. Overall just rather listless and dull. It needed something it used to have, but I didn't quite know what. Christine made suggestions to help my hair have movement. She is the first hairstylist to get my color and layers right in years!!! She is awesome! She totally knows what she is doing, is meticulous and precise and very friendly. I love my haircut and will go to her again. She has an excellent chairside manner, she's really funny and puts you at ease, She listens, and best of all, she confidently gives you suggestions for your hair if you are unsure.

Pros: friendly attention + amazing skills=Miracles performed daily

I have been searching for an amazing stylist and a salon with a great vibe for sooooo long and I FINALLY found it!! My hair has never looked and felt so fabulous!! I dont think ive ever been complimented this much! Im SO excited, that I want to share my experience with EVERYONE!! Not only were the prices and services SO great, but the energy is just WOW! Seriously, the staff is just so fun and friendly, and makes me feel great about coming in to get my hair done. I also discovered a DJ night with wine and cheese on one of my visits!! I guess the DJ only spins once a month, but the wine and cheese is EVERY Thurs. I highly HIGHLY recommend this hair salon to anyone who cares about great service, skilled stylists, awesome prices, and just an exciting place to be :)

After a terrible, horrible salon experience a few years back (my bangs got burned off in a careless bleaching endeavor--by a "professional"!!), I called Suburbia Salon to save me...and they did. My hair was quickly nursed back to health and has never looked better! The vibe is great, the stylists & staff are genuinely friendly, super cool, and extremely knowledgeable. Not to mention my first appointment ever was on a Thursday night where complementary wine, paired with a delicious cheese platter, was there for the clients to enjoy---what a treat! (Yes, they do this every Thursday night!!). Ever since then, I've been a happy, dedicated client, and have even stepped into the world of facials---please go in and get one!

I went here for the first time for an eyebrow wax as it's right down the street from Universal Pictures where I work. First off I was a bit surprised at how expensive it was to "valet" my car ($4). With the prices the salon charges for their services, the valet service should be complimentary or at least $2 MAX. I was greeted by Andrea who was very sweet and friendly. She led me back to her waxing room which essentially felt like a closet shoved into the back. Not relaxing in the slightest and I could hear the loud conversations between the other stylists which made it even less so. Andrea did an ok job with my brows. It wasn't great, and took under 10 minutes. Upon further examination outside in the light, I noticed a ton of hairs she didn't wax/tweeze! It was very incomplete, shapeless and CERTAINLY not worth $25!!! Burke Williams Spa charges $30 for a brow wax and the experience is about 10x more relaxing and thorough. I was considering getting my hair cut at Suburbia before I had my appointment and now I definitely will not be going back!

When I arrived at Suburbia, I was relaxed and looking forward to a bit of pampering - The girls who worked on me were sweet and did an okay job on my color but they were rushed and running around like geese with their heads cut off - They were engaged in several other conversations with workers and clients while they were tending to me and often seemed distracted and overworked. One even complained about all the work they made her do and how it is nearly impossible to work there. I couldn't wait to get out of there and felt like I needed to get to a Yoga class to just calm down - the place felt like a factory - too many people and not enough help - The manager spoke with me and basically made lots of excuses and ended up telling me to go somewhere else next time. I called the owner 3 times to discuss my experience and she never called me back. If you want good treatment and to get what you are paying for (this is place is pricy) definitely do not go here!

I just got a full leg and brazilian wax with AMANDA (who recently joined Suburbia from Belle Visage) and she was fabulous!! It was the quickest and most painless waxing I have ever had in all of my waxing years!!!!!!!! I'm addicted now!!

I am currently a hair client of Jen's at Suburbia and recently tried out their skin care and waxing services with their new esthetician Andrea - AWESOME!! It was sooooo great to get my hair done and get all my waxing at the same time! I have since booked a facial with Andrea, and it was amazing . . . very relaxing, and my skin was glowing for days. I HIGHLY recommend Andrea (in addition to the fabulous hair services provided at this salon). Enjoy!

I recently moved over the hill and a friend told me about this really nice salon right in Studio City, so I figured I'd give it a try and save myself some time driving over the hill. I consider myself to be ultra picky (type A personality) so I knew I had to be with someone that really listened to what I liked and disliked about my hair. My girlfriend recommended Jesse and he was AWESOME!! I don't think my hair had ever looked so good, and it's costing me less then when i drove over the hill all the time! He is amazing with color, and I try and make it in as often as possible for his blowouts. I don't know what he is doing different, but it is working, I get compliments on my hair all the time. I also sent a girlfriend in for extensions with him and they look amazing. You will have the best time with him while he is doing your hair and leave looking like a million bucks!!

I had heard of the Brazilian Blowout before but was a little weary about trying it because of the price and I was worried it would damage my hair. I am very picky about my hair and needed to make sure that it was right for me and that it wasnt too good to be true. After I consulted with Tanya Porter I decided that I was sick of my unruly curls and frizzy ends and that I would try it out. I AM SHOCKED at the difference it has made to my hair. The texture is AMAZING, the frizz is GONE, and it makes it so much quicker/easier to get ready in the morning to not have to use a flat iron. I highly recommend getting a brazilian blowout with Tanya- It is well worth the money and has changed the way I feel about my hair! The best part about it, is that it lasts for months!

i have been a client at suburbia for about three years now and i have enjoyed every appointment i have been to. given the poor parking situation in the studio city area, i find the valet parking a convenient option, and on the days that i do not want to valet i opt to find neighborhood parking and enjoy my walk to suburbia. i have always been extremely please with my hair and the skill level of my stylist exceeds any other salon i have been to. when my stylist has been out sick or on vacation i have seen two or three other stylists at suburbia and have been just as pleased with the outcome. the front desk always greet me warmly and the overall feeling in suburbia is upbeat and happy. i highly recommend suburbia!

Suburbia Salon has lived up to its reputation as being a welcoming, highly educated, very chic salon that offers a wide range of services. I was lucky enough to find this salon and have been raving about it to all my friends ever since. It's always a little nerveracking to go into a new salon where you dont know anyone, but my experience at this salon was so amazing and way better than I ever imagined that I must let everyone else know. The staff was so friendly and made me feel comfortable and relaxed. My stylist did exactly what I asked for and my hair turned out perfect! I also have to mention Julie, who made me over by giving me the perfect eyebrow wax that everyone has been complimenting me on! This honestly was the best salon experience I have ever had and I recommmend it to all !!

I was nervous to try a new salon, but I had heard great things about Suburbia and I really wanted a extensions and a new style, so I gave it a shot and I couldn't have been happier! I saw Monique for extensions, color, and cut and she was awesome! I still see Monique, but every now and then if she is not available for a last minute blowout, I will also see Ashlee and Angela (they do great styles as well). I love this salon, they have managed to make me look beautiful and feel great, and for that I am grateful!

went here based on Citysearch's Best of 2008. First off, I asked for full highlights in red, and picked out the color. After doing pretty much partial highlights on my head and NOT sitting me under a bloywdryer for 15min while she attended to another client, someone else came up and began to wash my hair since the stylist was too busy. After waiting some more, she finally took off the towel and my heart sank. Sitting there, in the remains of her former client (I think she even used the same bib), I could see the red highlights were actually a brassy blond, which looked terrible on my black-brown hair. She then tried to tell me it looked great and started to cut my hair. It literally took her 5 minutes. I pointed out the blond pieces and asked very politely if we might go a little redder. She brushed color on the top front portion of my hair. Mind you, I was getting highlights, so there?s no reason color should be brushed on without foil, let alone for only a portion of my head. After about 5 minutes she took the color off, and took me back to the chair, trying to convince me that she could see the color even though I couldn?t. She opened the ?SOILED? drawer and pulled out some pins. She proceeded to blowdry my hair, pulling & twisting, stabbing me in the ear several times, & blowdrying one area until it began to burn and I had to jerk-away from the pain. I had to do my own ?even cut? test by pulling strands on each side of my head to make sure they were even. They were not. I paid the $240 I was being charged and even left a cash tip since I am not one to be mean, just honest. after requesting for a tip envelope from the receptionist three times, I finally got one, and then was asked for $4 so I could have my keys back. Apparently, valet had just left but I was still expected to pay? apparently, they do not understand what ?valet parking? actually is. Overall, the worst in service and style I've ever experienced...Supercuts could probably do better!

Cons: everything, including 22 year old stlists with no real experience cutting or coloring hair

I was a new walkin at Suburbia, despreate for a change, when I was paired up with John. I couldn't have been happier with the result of my hair. John is a colorist only and boy did he rock out my color!!! I would highly recommend this amazing colorist . . . not to mention that the salon is great too, the vibe is so happy and energetic, it was fun to be there!

If you want a stylist who is an experienced haircutter with a great eye for new looks, try Tina. This former salon owner is a real pro! Cutting hair is all she does. Tina takes her time with clients, is very responsive to individual needs and has a hip vision which can be truly transformative. If you are searching for a positive change in your look, there is no one better. Suburbia is a fun salon, very convenient and well run.

I am an employee at Suburbia Salon, and although I understand that Citysearch is a client-review based site, I cannot sit back at this time without standing up for the salon. I am not the stylist involved in this scenario, but I am know of the situation and feel the need to clarify the circumstances surrounding this problem for any potentially new clients.

The author of this negative review was a regular client. She had extremely obsessive/compulsive tendencies, but her stylist worked with her and followed her detailed instructions to a T for all 12 of her appointments. The client LOVED her hair at every appt until the day the stylist raised his prices. That's when it all changed.

3-4 weeks after her most recent appt we received a phone call from her that she was unhappy with her cut. In our industry we will always honor an unhappy client in a reasonable amount of time - we consider a 2 wk period to be an ample amount of time to know if you are unhappy with your services. Although the amount of time had far surpassed a typical 'redo' period we offered a redo for the client anyways, but no refund. She was unhappy with our offer, and at this point we began receiving repeated harassing phone calls from her, sometimes 5-10 calls in one day.

We, at Suburbia, pride ourselves on customer service, excellent hair care, and above all, positive energy. 99.9% of our clientelle express feeling a positive flow and vibe upon entering our salon, and believe me, we work very hard to sustain a positive ambiance and excellent customer service throughout the salon to ensure that our clients have a great experience.

Ever so often, we encounter irrational clients that have skewed perceptions of reality and truly challenge our 'clients first' policy. We try our best to uphold our customer service policy, but in this situation we felt that a full refund was not appropriate and was purely abusive and took advantage of our good will.

I got my hair cut here and would rather not mention the stylist because I don't want to be cruel but it was a very, very average hair cut for the prices that I was charged. When I asked for my money back they refused. They offered me to come back to get my hair fixed but why would I go back to someone who ruined it? They were very adament about not reimbursing me my money and did not put the customer first. I will not be returning to this salon. I am very disappointed in how they handled the situation.

Lenny Strand has been coloring my hair for more than fifteen years. . My hair has never been less than perfect, the condition is great, and I have never been disappointed. He is really an expert at choosing the right formula to achieve the best result. In all the years that i have seen him for my hair coloring, i have never seen any interaction between him and a client that is not pleasant. And that' cannot always be easy!! It amazes me that he has so many "client-friends." i usually go to Point de Vue for my appointments with him, but sometimes to Suburbia where it is a bit more hectic. I agree that it certainly is possible to get coloring for less money, but you get what you pay for!

I have to say if you want a hair stylist that not only consistantly amazes me ,my friends and co-workers, with her talents, you must see Christine. She listens! She cares! She makes sure you leave happy ! I reluctantly write this as she is already too busy& I hate having to get out of her chair ! I must however give her props! She keeps me laughing and looking hot ! What could be better ? She colors and cuts and has at least four prior assistants now also working as great stylists at Suburbia. She is also cute as H. So be good to your self and call ahead , a visit with Christine S. is a treat ! Loving L.

I just moved to the valley and wanted to find someone more local. I used to go to Anastasia in Beverly Hills but Julie is much better. She took her time to listen and my eyebrows came out perfect. I have these thick bushy unruly brows and nobody has ever made them look this good. She also did my brazilian and omg was she great. She was fast and did a really clean job. Not to mention it didn't hurt that much. I found my girl and I will never go anywhere else.

I am a commitment-phobe in all areas of my life including hairstylists! I find myself being disappointed with my stylists after the first cut and ultimately find a new one after one or two visits. I live in San Diego but visit Los Angeles regularly. One weekend I felt like I needed a haircut and on a whim made an appointment with Angela at Suburbia. My first cut and highlight experience was outstanding, but I was skeptical... could she do it again? Needless to say, I have been back for three additional visits and now I work around my visits to LA to schedule my haircuts! I had an event on a Sunday recently and Angela came in early in the afternoon on her day off to create a elegant up-do for me. I received many compliments on my hair that evening! I gave her credit each time!!! I love her work, and she is so incredibly upbeat and personable. I have finally committed to one stylist! Angela rocks!

Let me start by saying I hate getting my hair cut. I never like the cut or the way hairstylists blow-out out my hair - always too "poofy." Plus, I can never seem to replicate the blow-out at home. Well, Mary at Suburbia changed my thinking totally. She gave me a great hair cut - I had all one length hair and asked her for long, luscious layers because I felt my hair at one length was pulling my face down and making me look, well, a little like a 1970's Breck girl. Mary gave me the greatest cut I've ever had and I had it cut 3 weeks ago and I'm able to replicate the look she gave me in the salon at home! She's also a real sweetheart. Lovely, kind, conversational and easy going. I highly recommend her to anyone.

I just recently moved to LA, and I have been struggling to find a place to do my long hair. A friend recommended this place....and I have never been disappointed. The service is wonderful, the people are friendly...and the prices are extremely competitive with the market. People always ask me if my hair color is natural.....YEAH RIGHT! They do that great of a job. Jenn the owner is wonderful...and I always feel like I am special client when I go to see them. Worth a visit!

I came here after going to other big named hair salons that treat the 'it' stars of today because I just couldn't pay for $400 highlight jobs anymore and the $200 cuts. I liked that the salon was upfront about their pricing, displaying it on their website, so I called and was recommended to Angela. I went in on a thurday afternoon and didn't have to wait any longer than 2 minutes, so I didn't have any bad luck when it came to possible overbooking. I went in for blonde highlights (which i already had but i wanted more) but also decided I wanted a funky look so I also asked for the hair underneath to be dyed dark brown. Now I am a VERY cautious person when it comes to hair, i prefer the natural look, but the half-blonde/half-brown idea was appealing, so i stressed to her that I didnt want it to look as extreme as most girls do it, where its practically white on top with black underneath. She was very understanding and in my opinion did a great job! She used these wrap things, i dont remember what they were called, but they were less damaging to my hair then highlighting it in foil pieces and then baking under the dryer. And she went less extreme with the dark half making it brown/slightly auburn, so it wasnt so harsh looking over time and would be more unique than the cliche version. Great experience, oh, and DEFINITELY do the Valet parking, it is FAR less hectic.

Pros: Friendly staff, easy to find, color's just as good as big name salons

Cons: valet park--anything else and you could regret!

whether ur brows need a new shape or just a touch up, you should definitely go to Erin to get them waxed! I had never gotten my eyebrows waxed before, but they were getting out of control and something needed to be done about them. Erin made me feel totally at home and the results were great!! In fact, when my friend was visiting from MD, she wanted to get her eyebrows re-shaped so i brought her to Erin and she made them look 10x better...no offense to my friend. And even though I moved out of the valley, i still travel back to get them done by her!

Pros: water, bagels & coffee readily available, friendly staff

Cons: only metered parking in front, definitely worth it to pay $3 for valet

Suburbia: If you like being the four person to be signed up for the same 11:00am appointment, or if you enjoy being overcharged, then Suburbia is your place. I was like many women, playing musical chairs, from the get go. LENNY, your great as a colorist, but you overcharge for 75% of your work being done by your assistant, in addition you only spend 5-10mins. putting color in my hair, and hasta le vesta your off to your next client!!!

Pros: If money is no object, and you don't mind 1:1 service rather 1:4, then go to Lenny.

Cons: overcharged, no personal service, $40 to blowdry your hair,

I walked in to Suburbia on a spur of the moment wanting to change my haircolor and was paired up with the stylist Valerie, who was kind enough to fit me in on such short notice. I ended up getting the best head of natural looking highlights that I have ever had in my life!!! I have never loved my hair more and I am so thrilled to have found such an awesome colorist and salon!! Thank you so much - Val you rock!!!

Suburbia is a very hip place with fantastic, groovy stylists. Jennifer Nash gives the best hi light and therapy at a reasonable rate. Oh and did I mention that valet parking makes it easy! The staff is very friendly and they give great head massages:-)) I give Suburbia a 10!

A fantastic salon!!! Modern without being stuffy and stale! Welcoming to all!
I have wavy/curly hair and have been to every hair stylist from LA to SF only to have my hair butchered and hacked to end up looking like a fuzzy Q-tip or frizzy worn out hippie-
This all ended the day I met Marcus. He is amazing with curly hair cuts.
Now I can wash and go, literally! He knows how to cut my wavy hair so I can wear a trendy bohemian curl or blowdry it out to get a sleek straight look. NO FRIZZ!
I have never written an online recommendation for anything before! But I have to recommend MARCUS ROBLES!!! Girls with curly hair he is a dream come true!!
And the salon is an extra bonus! Everyone is extremely friendly and fun- A truly great experience- Worth every penny!!!

Suburbia is the hair salon you've always been looking for. Great people, no attitude, fun lively atmosphere and incredibly talented stylists. I've been going to Jennifer Nash for 10 years and my friends say I haven't seemed to age in that time. Her magic coloring keeps the gray away and looks completely natural. It's a bonus that she's a wonderful person who you look forward to spending a couple of hours with.

I've been interested in getting hair extentions for a while, so i made a few different consultations in some highly recommended hair salons to make sure i would pick the best person to do my hair.
I finally got my extentions done by Nuria at suburbia and i am so happy with my long beautifull hair, she is amazing, i love the hair quality and she matched the color so perfect that i get compliments everywhre i go. I just want to say thank you Nuria for my beautifull new hair.

A while back I was trying to get reviews on Suburbia salon and read only 1 about it. The person highly recommended it. I got married in September, and I was trying to find a hairstylist for the big day. It was such a treat to speak with Rick. He showed me pictures of past work that he had done. And I showed him a picture of what I wanted, with a few variations, and he did an amazing job. Rick is also a sweet, funny and sincere guy that was such a pleasure to work with. I was so happy that I had found my hairstylist, and my hair was probably my favorite thing of the entire day! I had to have my hair colored prior to the big day as well (Rick doesn't color hair) and he referred me to Tanya. She did an excellent job and I can't wait to go back to get the royal treatment again. The support staff is great, too. The prices are completely reasonable and much better than the salons that I used to go to in West Hollywood, Beverly Hills, etc.

I love the environment and energy inside Suburbia. It is a sleek, clean salon in a great and convenient location. I enjoy the salon but am mainly there because of Dorit. I followed her from another salon. She takes my tired gray hair and turns it into a glorious, rich shade of brown. Dorit listens to what I want but also makes great suggestions about haircut and color. She has a very gentle touch and a contagious smile. I highly recommend Dorit.

Suburbia is a bright and airy salon filled with talented stylists. Dorit Wright is my favorite; she cuts and perms very well and for the level of professionalism I think she is quite reasonable. She has a great personality and is fun to talk to, which is a plus because I can?t stand sitting in a chair for more than 30 minutes at a time (I get a little ADHD).

For a while I was flip-flopping haircuts between a friend of mine in Pasadena (out of that weird friendship/obligation thing) and Dorit. Let me tell you with all honesty that Dorit won me over as a full-time client by her superior skills. Dorit would literally have to ?fix? all the mistakes that her Pasadena counterpart would commit. I don?t know what I would have done without her. Dorit saved my hair several times. I owe her my loyalty and allegiance. I could be walking around with a mullet right now, people! She totally rules!

Dorit also has a sensitivity to curly and wavy hair. She has beautiful, natural locks herself and works wonders for others, too. Whether you have or want curls or waves, Dorit is your woman.

I would highly recommend a trip to Suburbia and more specifically a sit in Dorit?s chair. She is wonderfully talented and I know she?ll go far. The salon and her clients are all lucky to have her.

I have been everywhere in L.A. to get Facials, until I found Erin. I have followed her for 8 years now, and will follow her anywhere. She really knows what she is talking about when it comes to skincare. Erin also does my eyebrows and everytime they are better than before. I highly suggest giving Erin a try, you will never go anywhere else.

Dorit is awesome, I have had the great fortune to finally find someone who knows just what to do with my hair....the color process she does for me is brilliant!....My hair comes out lovely each and every time! Not ony is she a lovely person inside and out, her knowledge of color is priceless. I have followed Dorit as well and I cherish her as my hairdresser. I look forward to each visit! My hair has NEVER been in such great shape as it has been these past few years with Dorit!.........She is the tops!......truly!......
