There is just something about buying from a market who makes an effort to process and sell locally raised meat. So often I see farmers in the market dropping off hogs, goats, lambs and cattle.

I bring several deer a year to Steve's for a decade and am generally very happy. I have also brougt in some hogs for processing. They are very helpful. Over the years my wife has gotten comfortable bringing in deer wen I cannot and they take care of everything. A few years the summer sausage was not top rate, but the deer sticks and polish sausages are fantastic. Once or twice an order was not ready when they said it would be but we can live with that.

We have been going to Steve's Meat Market for the past 8 years. In that amount of time we have never had a complaint about anything. They are always willing to help and give the best prices in town. Guy and his crew are the best! We don't even buy meat from the grocery stores anymore.

i totally disagree with Rob O. i have been processing three deer a season at Steve's for the past five years and have always been happy. The deer have always been cut the way i requested. i have been helped by both Steve and his wife, and they have been very accomidating. including one warm evening, when they returned to the market to tag in one of my deer after hours so it wouldn't spoil. i would encourage any hunter to have their meat processed at Steve's.

We get pastured beef from a local rancher who happens to use Steve's as their butcher. The beef is awesome, but Steve's meat market leaves something to be desired. Every time I call to arrange details with our order they act as if they are too busy to talk and I'm annoying them. They don't include the bones and organ meats that are supposed to come with the order unless I demand them when I pick up the meat, and then they act as if I'm imposing on them. The meat itself looks like it's been hacked up with a chain saw. I know it all cooks the same, but it's not very appetizing to look at. On the other hand, the ground beef we got is the best I've ever had--it's not too fatty & not too dry and has a nice texture--but that could be due to the cow and not the butcher. Steve's seem to have good variety to choose from and decent prices, but they are not the most pleasant people to do business with.

Cons: meat mangled, terrible phone service

I have been stopping by at Steve's Meat Market for two years now.
I try to buy a big freezer package every six to eight monthes. Inbetween times, I shop at Steve's every third week for some ground lamb, eggs, and bacon.
I love to take my girls to Steve's on Saturday Mornings after going to the Farmers Market.
Try making Lamb Burgers Oklahoma Style.
Chop up a big red onion, hand full of mint and mix it into ground lamb with "Penzeys Lamb Seasoning"

The only way I would ever go back to Steve's Meat Market again is if someone paid me.

I recently purchased a bulk package; 40 lbs of beef for about $120. It had about 10-12 packages of ground chuck; 4 packages of round steak; 1 package of t-bones; 1 package of porterhouse; 2 arm roasts with the biggest bones I have ever seen; and a couple of packages of rib steaks. We probably ended up with 20 lbs of fat, 5 lbs of bone and 15 lbs of meat.

All the meat has had a horrible flavor with the exception of one of the t-bones. The cuts of meat that were in this package I would be embarrassed to sell someone if I was a butcher. It was most likely the stuff in the case that would not sell that he had to freeze before he could no longer sell it.

I realize he is not a supermarket/grocery store, but when you open a steak package that weighs about a pound and you get less than 4 oz of meat, that's not right. The ground chuck has had almost the same problem; loaded with fat. The arm roasts and round steaks have been nothing but bones.

If you absolutely have to go to Steve's, I hope it's your only choice and I hope you only choose things out of the case. They are a little better but not much.

Steve's Meat Market has been in DeSoto for almost 40 years, and my family has been customers there for almost all of those years. This is a local, family owned and run business that offers high quality meats at reasonable prices.

Steve's also handles the slaughter process if you are raising beef or pork animals .. as a customer you can purchase sides of beef or pork, or select just what you need from the meat case. If you don't see what you want in the case - just ask them! They probably have it in the freezers!

This is a tremendous business in the DeSoto community - my family is very grateful for them!
