San Diego Repertory Theatre is the best theatre secret in downtown!
by Javan J.
The wonderful experience of theatre for all. Quality theatre worth every dollar and minute of your time. The 2009-2010 season so far has been phenomenal. Long Story Short, the season opener was fantastic! Current production, The Seafarer, is a must see! Check out the their website, purchase a ticket, and head down to the REP!

I love theater and I was reminded last night why the Rep is so special. The production I saw was "Three Penny Opera" and it was OUTSTANDING- great singers- cutting edge- avant garde. It reminded me a bit of an off broadway production I saw in NY.

I've been to the Rep for The Flying Karamazov Brothers and The Reduced Shakespeare Company's Complete Word of God Abridged, and I have to say it is the most comfortable, intimate theater of its kinds. Everyone is very friendly and they just seem to book really good productions. Ticket prices are very reasonable.

The San Diego Repertory Theatre is a great theatre to see new, upcoming big hits, as well as upcoming big flops. You wont find Broadway type musicals at this theatre, instead you will find the upcoming works, independent works, and new hit works. Its a great place to see off-beat, diverse plays and a wonderful theatre if you are looking for something that is new and different. If you cant stand to sit through Cats one more time, then check out something at the San Diego Repertory Theatre for something that is hit, unique, and most of the time, a great way to be entertained.

This theater is known for staging ethnically diverse shows-- I think that's how they get a lot of their funding. It's refreshing to see a big city theater that's not playing the Fantasticks or some Broadway standby- this is the place to see new work.

I went to see their production of Edward Albee's The Goat and it was amazing. As far as the plays for they are world class. Their coustomer service is sometimes a little below par, but the qualtiy of the production more than makes up for it. I highly recommend attending one of their shows, it makes a great outting for a special occasion.
