Great Jones Spa Has a Hair Salon That is Fabulous!
by Marisol G.
I love the tranquil atmosphere, the excellent services from massages to facials and that water lounge is superb. However, I must highly recommended the hair salon. I just had the most beautiful haircut and color highlights done. I'm telling all of my friends, but everyone at my office is raving. My hair and skin have Never looked better, I'm hooked on Great Jones Spa.

Mostly known as a fancy spa - worth checking out Kevin Coyne's tucked away hair salon found inside. Kevin is great, high quality cuts at reasonable prices, especially considering top location.

downtown relaxation

I love the Great Jones spa. The facilities are state of the art, and very, very clean. There is a plunge pool and a hot tub (a huge perk over other spas) and all of the products are organic - such a plus.

Horrible experience
by aetienne
I went to GJS for a brazilian wax and I will never go back.
To start, the place was ridiculously hot and humid to the point that my hair frizzed up just waiting to check in. They point you down a hallway and tell you go upstairs and the technician will be waiting for but there was no one there so I had no idea where to go. I finally found the woman that was going to do my wax and she showed me to my room which was even hotter than the check in area.
When she came in, she confirmed with me that I wanted a brazilian. Most women know the difference between a regular bikini wax and a brazilian but the technician obviously didn't because she only did the front. It's uncomfortable enough having this treatment done so you don't exactly want to jump up and say - hey, what about the back? The wax was incredibly painful and when I finally got up, I noticed that she had ripped some of my skin right off and I was bleeding. I finally went down to pay with a gift card that was sent to several people at the magazine I work for last month and they tell me that it had already been used. The guy behind the counter said he was sure that it was a mix-up on their end, the gift card numbers were probably switched and then told me to pay for the treatment. I couldn't believe that I had to pay for a wax that was half-done and left me bleeding.
Avoid at all cost. For $10 more, you can have the same treatment done at Bliss, where they don't double-dip and the people know what they are doing.

I had the best facial here to date. From the moment i sat down, everything was perfect. The women was friendly and clearly new what she was doing. Here at Great Jones spa they are very profesional and accomodating. I called last week and they were able to fit me in the following day. I definitely will be back here soon.
Pros: Gentle and professional

Fading Glory
by MadiNYC
When I first stumbled upon this spa 3 years ago - I arranged a friends party there I thought I had struck gold and recommended the place to everyone. Looking back it's clear it was the luck of the draw - as since then this place has proven inconsistent at best. After the first party I organized another party, our booking was made 3 weeks prior, however when we arrived, we found out that 1 out our 6 guests would not be getting their spa treatment bc the front-desk made a mistake. That destroyed the spirit of the party and they were not even apologetic - but rather very "s*%# happens" attitude, nor did they go out of the way to make it up to our party. At this party my massage therapist May-Megan, was curt, cold and passed her hands over me like she was trying to feel the texture of my skin, rather than give a massage - had I been asleep her touch wouldn't have even woken me up. When I asked for more pressure - did I get it or what - she knocked the wind out of my lungs with a painful force! I asked for my massage to stop 45 mins into the 60 min treatment, there was no apology or question on her behalf as to why I was leaving. Most recently, one year later I called the spa to book body treatments for me and my friend - the front desk attendant Adrienne was snippy and unhelpful. I had asked (to be safe) the names of our assigned therapists - her answer was "I can only give you who I have available." As if I was bilgerantly requesting someone else!? This place is weird because it's energy can go either way, usually not the way you'd hope - and thats the last thing you want when you are paying money to relax and have a nice experience.
Pros: Nice venue/location and facilities
Cons: Front desk dicey service, therapist can be good or a miss

I absolutely love Great Jones Spa. I visit all of the time and have even had spa parties there. The level of service is to die for. You can't miss the coed pools, sauna, and steam room. There is absolutely no better way to spend a frigid NYC winter weekend day in NYC in my opinion.
Pros: Great Service, Great Spa Menu, Great Amenities
Cons: Book early - they tend to be booked if you need a last minute kneading

I received a gift card to Great Jones Spa for Christmas and I feel like I really found a hidden gem of a spa downtown! The steam room was awesome and my facial was so nice and relaxing. My skin has been glowing for days now! I definitely recommend this spa if you are looking for a mini escape from the city!

Fabulous Spa- a real treat!

Great Jones is definitely top 10 spas in NYC, best one downtown for sure. My massage was so relaxing. The facilities were very clean and nice. Yummy tea and trail mix while you relax. The steam room is huge as well as the hot tub. I went with a small group of girls and we all had the best time. I heard the facials are great but only had a massage. next time!

Hands Down One of the Top Spas in NYC
by rosieroth
I have been to to many spas and Great Jones Spa is by far the best. The steam room is big, spacious, HOT and steamy. LOVE IT. The hot tub is large enough for a group and the plunge pool....well that is COLD. I took a plunge into the ice cold pool and it REALLY does invigorate. But aside from all the amenities, my massage was amazing. It was quiet, relaxing and deep tissue. i couldn't ask for anything else. I have been to several spas uptown that are much more expensive. Great Jones is the best and a great price. Five Points next door is wonderful for brunch afterwards- make a resi though!
Pros: Clean, Modern

What an AMAZING Water Lounge
by Karamel11
Great Jones spa is absolutely amazing. The water lounge alone makes it worth the trip. The spa week specials included a wash/blowout or mani/pedi. I chose the mani/pedi which included 3 hour use of the water lounge. The jacuzzi, sauna and steam room are huge... you can sit comfortably inside without the feeling of it being overcrowded. There's water with lemon, fruit, nuts/seeds and tea available as well. The decor inside is wonderful, with the waterfall and beautiful plants I almost forgot I was in the city. The spa was relaxing and I will definitely be back very soon.
Pros: The Water Lounge

I went in for a 90 minute massage, and was lucky enough to have Christie assigned to me. She gave me one of the best massages I've ever had. I went in tense, came out relaxed. Can't ask for anything more!
Customer service was OK, facilities are beautiful.

nice but dirty...
by alxgray
Hi,
My friend invited me for a girls day and we decided to go to a spa. I always wanted to try the great jones spa...
so we went to the spa and found it rather dirty..... I was pretty disappointed, a pity since it really could be much better. the treatments were ok though, and if they clean up I would go back!
The juice bar looked nice so we decided to have a snack, but we were treated kind of nasty, the lady working didn't smile even once. And we did not feel welcome. I also felt that it was not so fresh and clean and would not go back there.
Cons: dirty

The Amenities Outweigh the Treatments
by margaux30
I don't mind dropping a few hundred dollars at a really great spa. But I was more impressed with the amenities than the massage I had. The amenities are top notch. I didn't tell my massage therapist that I am also a massage therapist. I figured I'd let her do her job. But the massage was average. I scheduled the hot towel infusion massage. And all it was - was the same towel being put back into the hot towel cabbie. Once it was warm again, she would take it out and press it against my skin. I expected there to be several warm damp towels in the cabbie. I thought (for the price) that I would get a fresh towel for each section she worked on. "Titanic" theme song was playing on the boom box. It would have been more professional to have music piped in to each treatment room. The reason I gave it four stars is because I had a better time sitting in the whirl pool and eating a yummy salad from the juice bar. I realize running an operation like Great Jones Spa must be an awesome undertaking. But if they could be a bit choosier about the therapists they hire, they could charge even more money for the service. The spa attendants were helpful but almost no one could really speak english.
Pros: Spectacular amenities
Cons: Therapist's technique was average

The best amenities
by dmitri201
This place is a gem. You get to hang out for hours in this beautiful space, with a waterfall, skylights, a hot tub, sauna and steam room - all for the price of a barely-overpriced spa treatment. Genius! They provide all the fixins - fluffy robes, sandals, tea & healthy snacks. You can relax in comfy lounge chairs surrounded by plants - a great escape from NYC.
From my experience, the treatments aren't the highlight. I've had two massages, both ok, and a mani/pedi that was nothing different than your average $20 corner salon mani/pedi, just 5 times the price. I'm not complaining. It's all worth it for the peace and relaxation that this place provides. Also, the staff is great - everyone I've encountered in 3 visits has been fantastic. It does get packed on the weekends though. I recommend going during the week for a more relaxing experience.

by dsolo23
In my first and only experience thus far at GJS, I was so thrilled to have picked a place with fantastic & cooperative staff, excellent services, and an environment that takes you from NYC to South Beach. I hand-picked GJS based on the cool environment and a place that seemed perfect for me to propose to my love. Management and staff (thanks Ashley!) really helped out and took care of my experience there. It was not just the experience of my lifetime but one which made me so prideful to have been done on their premises. Great, clean facilities with service to boot!

HAIR SALON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
by rileycatcher11
I am a frequent client of great jones, but this weekend i realized i didn't know as much about it as i thought i did. My girlfriends and i came in for a party and when checking in, the receptionist asked us if we wanted blowouts after our services at the hair salon. Well, my hair was in such chaos I booked myself a haircut and style after my massage(fabulous as always, by the way). GOD BLESS GREAT JONES. The gentlemen (Kevin & Greg) were so nice to all of us and did miracles with our hair for incredibly reasonable prices. When checking out, i booked an appointment for color. I highly reccomend the Hair Salon at Great Jones Spa.
Pros: newly added salon gives the icing on the cake
Cons: crowded on weekends

loving every minute...
by snowwhitewonder
I came in last week for some services and must tell everyone what a find this spa is!!!! Their water cures are amazing: complete with a jacuzzi, steam, cold pool and sauna for your pleasure. When I came to check in for my masage(aromatic=amazing), I was escorted to the locker room as if I were their most important client. My massuese called me by name and she was incredible. I was only there for three hours and it felt like an entire day! bless the great jones spa! It's my new favorite place in the city.
Pros: waterfalls, smiles and a juice bar
Cons: hard to book appointments because of popularity

Very relaxing / Snob free.. VANESSA THE FACIALIST IS AMAZING!
by mineyour
I got to GJ an hour early and used the suana (very clean and well maintained) and the cold dip pool - perfect for one of those famous NY summer days. Then I was booked for a facial- if you get a facial ask for Vanessa and add on the lime- hair treatment. I have disc problems and Vanessa was so pleasant and helpfull when I was trying to get comfortable on the table she took her time to adjust and readjust the table till I found the right spot. The table is like a craftmatic adjustable bed -cept its way cooler. Vanessa took her time with every step of the facial , she even took her time with extractions which some facialists just try and rush past. At no point did Vanessa ever push extras or push products which drives me crazy. In fact we talked openly about what treatments she has tryed at the spa and what she likes. The way she talked about it was not to get me to book it , just to tell me her wonderful experience. Let me tell you I will be booking soon! Vanessa was amazing. I look like a new woman and I will with out a doubt say it was one of the best facials I have ever gotten! Three cheers for Vanessa!!
Pros: Amazing space
Cons: loud chatty people in the cold dip pool area. . .

Take it from a regular
by spalover679
I have been an avid spa goer for many years and I must say that Great Jones is by far one of the most exceptional in the city. They have wonderfully beautiful decor and some of the best service you can find. I've been coming here regularly for the past year and I have seen them grow and evolve from a baby to one of the city's most up and coming spas. Normally I'm not the type to write reviews but in this case I feel that it is completely worth my time to say how offended I am about the claims of poor service at the spa. I have tried almost every service and I love the facials (especially with Vanessa!!) they do wonders and trust me when I say my skin needs some work. Its not dermatologist quality but please ppl remember that it is a COMPLETELY HOLISTIC SPA which means NO CHEMICALS!!! The massages and body treatments leave me in a state of bliss every single time. I have never had a major issue that needed to be resolved. Any issues or complaints I've had have been completely recepted by the front desk staff. I have observed them with some of the most pretentious a-holes and I gotta tell you they do much better than I ever could. So here's the key to solving any problem: DON'T EXPECT IMPOSSIBLE SOLUTIONS!! They are only human they can't make an hour long service 2 hours and they can't change a male therapist into a woman.(Both scenarios I've witnessed) These are things you can easily specify when booking and cannot expect them to know. They will, however, try to accomodate you as best as possible. Even if you have a problem with your appointment, you will have an awesome time there if you follow the golden rule: Do unto others......

The facials are not cutting edge, the estheticians give cookie cutter answers to questions, I prefer less environment with knowledge!
Pros: Nice Decor
Cons: estheticians without knowledge! Prefer less decor and good service, but not here!

Amazing Spa Experience-A Mini Vacation in the City
by sreb
I took my husband as a Surprise Anniversary present to Great Jones Spa, on entering (2 hrs earlier) we were shown the facilities and told that the sauna, steam, cold pool and jacuzzi were available to us prior and after our massages and were unisex as long as we had our swimsuits on,the changing rooms were clean, and well maintained, once we dawned our robes we went to the lower level where the spa facilities were located, the sound and sight of the glass waterfalls into the jacuzzi and relaxation area were beautiful, the sauna, steam rooms were big and refreshing as was the endless supply of jars filled with e water infused with limes, tea and snacks were also available, the jacuzzi was large and more like a mini pool, since the spa had 3 levels, we were asked to meet our masseuses on the 2 nd level, we waited in the waiting area and were met by our respective masseurs, who were very attentive and the massage room was very well maintained and the massge itself was amazing and left us refreshed and completely relaxed. The staff were not pushy and very friendly, they let us enjoy our experience. I would highly recomment this calm oasis in a busy city, good for people who can't leave the city or tourists who want a break from the fast paced city holiday. We defintely think it's was a beautiful rejuvenating experience and hope to go more often in the future, Unlike many other spas around the city The Great Jones Spa was worth every penny and felt like a mini vacation
Pros: Great Ambience,Good Staff,Very Clean, Good Service

Unreal Spa Experience!
by phishyeel
From beginning to end, my experience was perfect. The front desk was very friendly, I was immediately given a helpful tour of the facilities, and everything I could have wanted was provided. Everything was comfortable, beautiful, and clean. My masseuse was very sweet and accomodating - really friendly and I actually chatted with him during the massage (which I normally don't do) because he was so personable and made me feel so at ease. Absolutely going back - and often.
Pros: Use of facilities with treatment, friendly staff, clean

If you live in the New York area this would be a great place to unwind. I was greeted when I first walked through the door and shown around so I knew where to find everything that I needed. Great services to choose from and great facilities to help you relax. They even have a juice bar area where you can have lunch so you dont have to leave the spa. Great spa with great people I will return as often as I can.
Pros: GREAT SPA WITH GREAT FACILITIES
Cons: BUSY ON THE WEEKENDS SO MAYBE TRY A WEEK DAY

Ok spa but a terrible front desk: managerial intervention suggested
by soesters
Had a fairly decent massage here and the facilities are ok. However, I was treated very rudely by the front desk staff, both upon entering and leaving the spa (was first ignored and then helped with obvious reluctance and what can only be described as disdain for the customer). This left a bad taste, so much that I would not return. Several other reviews describe similar experiences, which leads me to wonder why management is not intervening.

BEWARE OF THIS SPA'S CUSTOMER SERVICE
by jen12981
I was INCREDIBLY DISAPOINTED with the customer service (better yet, lack there of) that this spa offered. Due to an extreme food posioning illness I was unable to make my appointment on a Sunday morning. I am a savvy spa user and know that there are charges that go along with not properly canceling an appointment. However, this spa made it and EXTREMELY difficult to try to rectify the situation. BEWARE. If you don't make your appointment (even if it's due to an extenuating circumstance) you will not be welcomed back to the spa unless you pay for the service at 100% and no credit is offered to a re-schedule. Also, good luck getting anyone to call you back--that is if you even get past the rude front desk personnel.
Cons: Personnel

Great facilities &massage, front desk not so good.
by bkbliss
I have been waiting to try Great Jones Spa for a long time and finally indulged during Spa Week. The facilities were amazing as was Mary my massage therapist. She sent me into a state of bliss, she had an excellent technique and was very caring. The steam room was a special feature which was dark inside with different colored lights on the ceiling slowly blinking, it was very calming. The only problem I had was with the front desk staff, there was three of them and they were all talking on the phone or on a computer to even gesture that I should take a seat when I arrived. So I stood there awarkdly for ten minutes then another man came in and jumped in front of me, two receptionist seem to fight over who was there first and decided to check us in at the same time. I wasnt shown around the spa, given directions or told what was on offer. I felt rushed and will be hesitant to go back because I felt discarded and lost, a shame when the massage was so wonderful.
Pros: Great Facilities - Jacuzzi, sauna, steam room
Cons: Unhelpful front desk staff

by emileed
yes...great jones is expensive, but it is worth it. you walk downstairs into the changing room and then the pool, and you're suddenly far away from nyc. the spa is not for someone who is in a rush. you go to great jones to relax - take a day or an evening to yourself, and indulge. bring a book and drink some tea in between dips in the cold and hot pools and your treatment...their massages are great, just be specific about what kind you want.
Pros: ambiance, service, privacy
Cons: expensive

Bad Experience
by metzgerl
It's a cool space -- but overall I was extremely disappointed. My massage started late and I was not give the full hour. The Swedish massage was not all that great. In fact my arm was in pain for the next 24 hours. The desk staff were not polite. I lost an item in the dressing room and the staff never turned it back in to lost and found -- I told them precisely where I left it and yet it wasn't there. Too expensive for the service and experience. Don't believe the hype on this one.

Awesome Facials
by nag1234
I recently visited the spa at the recommendation of a friend. I had a Jurlique Facial with Shannon and couldnt have been more pleased. Ive never been so pampered. Shannon was knowledgeable about not only the products she used but the techniques for alleviating muscle tension which included a hot pack on my stomach, a warm pillow around my neck, and best of all, a warm stone massage on my face. It was all I had hoped for and more. Brought relaxation to a whole new level!
Pros: Staff was very accomodating, facility was very clean
Cons: A little pricey but worth every penny...you get what you pay for as the saying goes!

Power Peel
by yoga_mama
I had one and there were no signs of peeling or that I had anything done at all. I have had peels in the past and know what they will look like afterwards -- in my case, the first day is a very smooth complexion, followed by 4-5 days of peeling; resulting in an even skin tone. I am 55 so I do have skin that is uneven and needs this treatment. I have gone to the dermatalogist in the past to get this done and have had fantastic results. I realize you probably can't get as powerful a peel as a dermatologist, but I feel as if I wasted my money on this treatment because it did nothing but give me a pleasant Friday evening experience of being rubbed.
This was my comment to Great Jones Spa. They never replied.
Cons: I'm out $100

i am the first to admit i'm a bit of a spa junkie...but this place took relaxation to a new level, putty essentially. i'd never heard of anything like the platza body treatment before so i decided to check it out...and i can't recommend it highly enough! i have so much trouble calming down, as i'm sure many new yorkers do, and my mind was literally empty after spending time in the water lounge and getting massaged, it was nothing short of amazing. i had a facial as well which was just fabulous...and i just felt like the entire staff went out of their way to make sure i had a great day. i even joked with the front desk staff about how they should start offering towncar service home, i was that blissed out. :)

High price, low service
by bartowjones4
This place provides a cool "get away" with ok massages, but at premium prices. You will be disappointed if money is an issue at all so don't "treat yourself" here unless you like being frustrated. Appts start late, end early and the staff is nearly guaranteed to screw up your reservation. Lots of lip service, this place is just show. Our 90 minute massage ended after 70 minutes because the staff needed to prep for the next appt but we weren't given a discount (frustrating!). Btw, the front desk staff will remind you of riding the subway - everything is your fault and people are DUMB.

Best Facial in NY!!!
by valerie_126
I received a recommendation from a friend to go to Great Jones and get a facial from Vanessa. It was amazing!! Best facial I've had and I've been to many spas in the city. My skin was absolutely glowing and the treatment was so relaxing, I fell asleep. She picked out the perfect combination of products to address a small break out I was having and overall it was a wonderful, calming experience. I've been back several times and all the treatments I've received from Vanessa have been perfect. She also does a fantastic eyebrow wax!! Perfect, sculpted arches everytime. The spa itself is beautiful and the staff are all very friendly and helpful. Make time to visit the water and sauna facilities before your treatment. They also have great evening hours so it's easy to fit in an appointment after work.
Pros: facials, spa facilities, hours

The spa design is beautiful!!! My friend and I went for a massage last year in december and it was marvelous. After our Hot Stone massages we decided to check the water facilities downstairs where the jacuzzi, sauna, large steam room and the cool pool is located. My friend and I was so relaxed and fascinated about the place, LOVED IT!!Everything was so clean and neat and the staff members were very helpful. Since I my skin was very dry after being downstairs in the water facility, Milly, one of the frontdesk girls, gave me a sample of Dr. Alkaitis face cream, which made my skin feel fresh and moisturized. Thanks!.. I highly recommend this spa.
Pros: staff, clean, massages

Wonderful time at the Great Jones Spa
by nikai2006
On January 8 we were visiting this amazing sanctuary.
We each had several services. The front desk was very helpful. I had Dr. Alkaitis Facial.
My skin is very sensitive, but this product worked great. My Boyfriend had the Hot Towel Infusion Massage. He thought the therapist had great hands. Between treatments we spent some time in the Jacuzzi and Sauna. The Spa offered wonderful amenities such as teas, fruits and nuts.
Next time we will reserve the VIP room so we can have more privacy.

Feel pampared!
by phuinha
I've been to a few other spas around the world, but this really tops them all! I've been to Resort/Spas but only now I realize what a Spa should really be like.
My experience began with some time in the steam room, followed by a dip in the pool (they even provide disposable swimming suites, but bringing your own is best ). After looking for me, the facial lady brought me to a room and began the session. I must say, it was much more than I expected, getting a full lecture about my skin and even a soothing massage. I also felt the facial lady was very knowledgeable. To finish up my day, I was then picked up by my massage therapist, who I must say was just as friendly as the lady from the facial, who gave me a hot stone massage (my first) and it was amazing!

I RECENTLY WENT BACK FOR A SECOND TIME TO THE SPA AND WAS AMAZED THAT THE EXPERIENCE WAS EVEN BETTER THAN THE FIRST. I CANNOT BELIEVE HOW RELAXING MY FACIAL WAS AND HOW BEAUTIFUL MY SKIN LOOKED. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND KAREN FOR FACIALS. SHE WAS ALSO VERY KNOWLEDEGABLE ABOUT PRODUCTS AND INGREDIENTS. I ALSO LIKED JAMES AND PATRICIA AS MASSAGE THERAPISTS.
Pros: SPA WAS SPOTLESS AND STAFF WAS VERY FRIENDLY. GREAT ORGANIC JUICE BAR

Beautiful facilities... Terrible facials
by ralphie6
The spa is beautiful, but don't get the facials. The whole time it was a hard sell for product and it was a constant guilt trip ("your skin is really dehydrated... it would be much better if you got the hydrating mask add-on for an additional $30"). I couldn't relax at all, the facialist went out of her way to make me feel inadequate about my skin, obvioulsy hoping that I was insecure enough to buy into her attempted sales.

so this place is gorgeous..tons of things to do as far as sauna, lockers, pools, etc..
but..it was ALL CLOSED when i had my treatment?!?! the signs said something about permits..however no one told me this before i showed up super early to use the facility that it turns out was closed. no comps for the future either..
my facial was fine, but way overpriced. $150 for what seemed like a basic facial..
also, the front desk was uselss when it came to helping me with products. im sure in the future, they will work out the kinks and this place will be great..
Pros: HUGE, location
Cons: front desk, overpriced, ammenties were closed

I've been to Great Jones Spa twice. The first time I was blown away. The atmosphere was relaxing, luxurious, and extremely private. You can spend two hours prior and two hours after your scheduled treatment using the spa facilities which include a heated pool, a gorgeous stone sauna, and a steam room. The entire spa is a well designed, pleasant place so i spent an entire afternoon taking advantage of the amenities. i also didn't find myself running into other patrons, a big bonus. The second time however, i must have visited at the end of their cleaning cycle. The pool smelled dank and nasty and the steam room also had a slight sour smell in the air. My massage treatments were outstanding both times so i would highly recommend the services but i'm not sure i would go back to spend any time in the pool or sauna.
Pros: Excellent massage, Beautiful Design, Not Crowded
Cons: Inconsistent Cleaning

A friend and I visited the spa only a few days after they opened last week and we both had a great experience. The place is beautiful and unique- loved the stream, sauna and pools. It was so nice to relax before and after treatments. We had facials and massages and they were terrific. The therapists were welcoming, friendly and very talented. They recommended products when we checked out but there was not a hard sell - just a nice recommendation. We will definelty return. We've been to a number of spas in the city - this was a great experience and a relaxing day.
Pros: facilities, therapists, treatments
