Yum, yum and more yum! I??m a New Yorker, I love pizza and this place is one of my favs. Let??s be honest, most pizza shops in NYC surpass most pizza shops in other states but only a few NY pizzerias stand out form all the others. Joe??s Pizza is one of those shops. This place has been around for over 35 years and that alone should tell you something. Their selection is normally pretty basic but that is fine by me. I normally go with the fresh mozzarella slice. The crust is thin, the sauce is flavorful and the cheese is delish. Always make sure you get a hot slice out of the oven, whether it be a new pie or just a slice that getting reheated, it is crucial that you eat the pizza HOT. That is the way it??s meant to be served, and that is the way it tastes best.

I can't pass with out stopping in to get a slice...my advice is to do the same...you will not be disappointed.
Ps: there are only 5 or 6 stools, 1 30inch round table and about 20 feet of counter space in the 12 x 12 foot eating area.

Not the cheapest place to grab a slice but very good anyway. They need to check their carbonation/syrup mix though. My drink had no fizz and seemed a bit thick like it had too much syrup.

I am crazy for even a single piece Joe's pizza. Joe's know how to make a finger licking pizza. They made the tastiest pizza in the whole New York. I am their regular customer and I am never gonna leave them. Price is also OK and they serve it hot with sauce which makes me more crazy about them. yuuuuummmmmmmy...

Yeah it was good NY style pizza but not the greatest I've had. A favorite of my friends though we went during the cold and it was so crowded inside we had no choice but to step out and eat with the pigeons, which I generally wouldn't mind but it was freezing out. Great place if you want food on the go.

If you live in New York City, you have had your share of pizza. I have tried a ton of places and it tastes different everywhere. Every pizza place thinks they have the BEST slice of pizza but the truth is there is quite a bit that goes in to a slice. Joe??s Pizza has an awesome sauce, a great mix of cheeses and a very tasty crust. I first went here a few years ago and had a slice by the time I left I had three. It is nice and light and so tasty but don??t take my word for it. Go!

was in the village and stopped at numero 28 and joes. Joes was a little bit better, just my opinion because I like a more traditional pie. the sauce was excellent, although numero 28's is a bit better. The cheese and crust spectacular, and only 2.50 a slice. and the slices are huge.

I used to live upstairs and eat here at least a few times each week. Oscar, Sam, and the rest of the crew at Joe's are the best Pizza men in New York. Period. Yes... I miss Joe's on the corner too, but the pizza still tastes the same!

The pizza here is pretty nice when it is done properly. I was visiting New York for a couple of weeks to visit family and we came here a couple of times. The first time the pizza was amazing and the service really great. The second time the sevice was slower and the pizza was not as good, slightly cold and had to ask to have it heated up again, which I could tell they didn't like being busy and all.

Hmmm how do i explain Joe's... First i'll say its Good!! sometimes REALLY GOOD, and thats the thing, sometimes its better then others... Basically, i only ever seen plain, pepperoni, and fresh mozzarella .. those are your basic options... which isn't bad... sometimes the plain slice is amazing... sometimes its average... I'm just speaking honestly... Advice i'll tell you, Don't let them serve you a lukewarm/cold slice!!!! They will try!! When they are feeling themselves and think that they are turning out slices really fast, or are busy, they won't take the time out to heat up your slice... THEY AREN'T GOOD LUKEWARM... tell them put it in the oven or wait for the fresh pie to come out!! PLEASE!! I BEG YOU! Especially on a fresh mozzarella.. Next thing i'll say is, try some other slices other places... they beat most places, but not all the time... Still they make good slices...

Joe's is certainly the best slice in NYC, and one of the few places in the city that knows how to cook a pizza properly. The crust is thin enough that it burns just a bit on the bottom, and the cheese doesn't suffocate the sauce like those crappy superworldfamous double famous original ben's excuse for real Apizza. Maybe Joe's uses Pecorino Romano on top, who knows.

But why bother keeping tabs on New York pizza, why not review the BEST pizza in the world? If you grew up on the Connecticut shoreline anywhere between Bridgeport and Mystic, you know that New York is NOT the pizza capital of the world... and far from it!

Real Apizza diners will agree that New Haven, Connecticut boasts the best pie in the world. Wooster Street: Pepe's, Sally's (Frank Sinatra's fave) and Modern are the Big 3, and all absolutely SUBLIME (grease included, pizza is NOT a health food!). To prove it, Just go to the worst pizzeria in the smallest town within 30 miles of New Haven - Guaranteed, your pie will have far more class than 99.9% of all these "Five Star" spots in the big apple.

Here's a few more small-town CT joints that put shame to any N.Y. excuse-for-a-pie:

Marco Pizzeria in Branford, CT (like a little pepe's away from pepe's. sometimes better!)
Bobby's Appiza in North Branford, CT (killer pepperoni. this pizza will be the death of my father someday)
Grand Apizza in Clinton, CT (population 13,500 vs 19 million in NYC? my little town has 8 or 9 pizza places in it's 17.4 square miles, and they're all way above NYC standards)

And by the way, CT pizza eaters are smart: why buy a slice or two when you can have 8? COLD PIZZA = God. laugh, but you know it's true.

Joe's is the best pizza in the world, not just within NYC. I am a pizza-phile; I was raised in central NY and have been a pizza junkie since birth. I've had pizza in NYC, Syracuse, Rochester, Albany, Buffalo, and every little town in between. Within the U.S. NY state is tops for pizza, and NYC has the best pizza in NY state for sure. I've been to almost all 50 states, all over Europe, Canada, etc. and eat pizza everywhere I go. I analyze and appreciate pizza to a degree most people might find absurd. Joe's is THE BEST slice or whole pie anywhere, anytime. If pizza nirvana is your goal in life, you need to visit Joe's. It has no equal on this planet. Yes, it is always mobbed, that's what happens when you serve the world's best pizza. And yes it is a tad "hole-in-the-wall" like all great pizza joints. If you are a true pizza lover, Joe's will rock your world and leave you coming back for more. When I visit NYC I visit Joe's multiple times; most frequently at 3am for my pre-bedtime pizza binge. Simply superb!

Nothing fancy in this shop except really good pizza! When you walk in, you only see a few pizzas behind the glass case. These pizzas are just the canvas of a beautiful work of art. You can add toppings to any of those pizzas and make slices beyond your wildest, tastiest, fantasies! We had pepperoni on one slice and sausage on the other. My favorite was the sausage. They used real sliced italian sausage and not the crumbled up, pizza hut kind. All the reviews were right on the money. Thanks Citysearch members! BTW, when you're done with your pies or slices, head next door to the Beard Papa Sweets Cafe. Get a few Vanilla Bean cream puffs. They're fantastic!

When they say New York has the best pizza, they definitely must be talking about Joes. No matter where I am in the city, when I get an urge for a slice I will travel to Joes. The crust, cheese & sauce are perfect. Nothing beats it in my opinion. Get the fresh mozzarella slice... heaven!

I have been frequenting Joes in Brooklyn which has the exact same amazing pizza until i finally had the opportunity to visit the original place. This pizza is perfect. It is the most perfect crust I have ever had and they are very generous with the toppings which are thrown on top last minute. Make sure to have their fresh mozz slice and be prepared to wait for awhile on the weekends- it is beyond woth it.

In the middle of Carmine St. appears as a small pizza joint, with only a single table and three counters for customer space. The entire place looks modestly kept, and one would not know of the great reputation it carries. I ordered a slice, and it was out to me, hot and fresh. As I walked over to one of the counters in the restaurant, another person coming in accidentally knocked my pizza face down onto the floor. The first thing I heard was not an apology from the man, but an offer from the cashier to give me another slice. And let me tell you, once I finally was able to enjoy it in peace, it was well worth the $3.00. I enjoyed it so much that I got another slice before I left. Famous Joe's Pizza serves the best pizza in the City.

Joe's pizza is the best in the NYC. I used to work on Varick Street and would go there for lunch, that was my first time and I've been going back there ever since (I left my job on Varick in 2000 plus I live in Brooklyn) I would purposely get on the train to go to Joe's from Brooklyn. I have my whole family liking the pizza. The chese and sauce is perfect together and the crust is baked to perfection. The decor is plain and there is no seating, but going there to get a slice is worth it. All the years I've been going to Joe's, the pies that come out of the oven quickly vanishes within 10 minutes. I've never seen a pie just sit there waiting for someone to buy a slice. It's just incredible and I want to thank Joe for such delicious pizza!

I went to joes on my first trip to NYC and was pleased. I had heard about it via a friend who lives in NYC and decided to go. It was about 1:30 on a saturday and the place wasnt crowded. I had no trouble getting seats. THe pizza was excellent and a great value!

Pros: good location, affordable

Cons: crammed space, dingy, not enough seating

Not a bad slice, crispy crust with a decent sauce. It's just that there are much better slices to be had in the city. I don't see why this place gets such good reviews. I was disappointed. Also it is small, cramped and the pizza is overpriced.

Mall pizza

Location brings in good crowds. Big crowds do not make good pizza.

Best slice in the Village, but John's is better for whole pies. I went a few times and thought the pizza was only good to so-so, and coud not understand the hype; but I went other times and saw why other people thought of this as the best slice in the city. I think it's just that the pizza varies from visit to visit; perhaps it depends on who is manning the ovens. It looks now as though they have shut down one of their two restaurants that were a few doors apart from one another on Carmine St.

Pros: can be the best slice, ok even on bad days

Cons: quality varies
