Only getting better!
by Rob520
What a happy accident! I had not had a haircut in over seven months and was in dire need of some help. Walked in and was greeted by Leslie (sp) who took one look and said she could help me. She did a terrific job and completely changed how I looked while still doing what I had asked for. It's been over a month and it has grown out better than any haircut I can remember. Thanks again Leslie!

This Haircut has changed my life!!
by trippleg
As a Sole Proprietor ( read BUSY) and a Long Haired Guy for many years- I was feeling the need for change- and called Lori at Salon Seven.
She was not only excited to give me a modern look- but she came to my studio to accommodate my frantic schedule!
On closer inspection, I couldn't help but notice her subliminal style and spectacular eye, so I gave her carte blanche to do as she saw fit; and I have NEVER gotten SO MANY compliments on my hair!
I still have shoulder length hair, but Lori made it modern, youthful and healthy looking!
Guys-If you are looking to update your look, Give her a call! I am SO glad I did!!
Pros: For a few bucks more they will come to you!

Need a Great Haircut go see Leslie
by FFNYC
Getting a decent haircut even for men is hard to accomplish. Yes, there are a lot of salons especially in the east village but nothing beats the professional hands of Salon 7. I've been going there for a while and always had Leslie taking care of my cut. She is formidable and very knowledgeable. She knows her job really well especially when it comes to styling. Always on time and never had a bad day with Leslie. She's the best!!!
Pros: Best hair stylists- They're awesome

Leslie is a godsend
by mavie
For 3years I have been going to salon seven. I have been seeing Leslie exclusively for me color, highlihts and haircuts. Her personable and genuine personality makes my visits all the more enjoyable but ultimately the real reason I use her services and no one else in Manhattan is that she is simply the best! I took a big risk in cutting off my very long hair to a short shag and Leslie's meticulous skill is priceless and hands-down unsurpassed. I have recommended her to friends who thank me for the referral almost daily. Salon Seven is great, Leslie is the best!

Best East Village high-end experience
by Emory
I had an incredible experience at this artsy little salon. Found it by walking to Luke's Lobster. I recognized it by the name for it's reputation proceeds itself. The stylists are extremely experienced, professional and patient. I had my hair colored with interesting chestnut highlights and my cut was done by the ubiquitous Mark. I can say the entire salon experience was relaxing and exciting and I love my hair! It's amazing how good you feel at the hands of true professionals. The price was unbelievably fair and actually I felt like I should have spent more. They worked so hard to please!
Pros: Great shampoo, great art, talented stylists

Autumn's new Hair
by lferriter
I walk by Salon Seven everyday and it is really a cool little spot. I went to Porchetta and ate then walked into Salon Seven in hopes of a cut and highlite with a 15% discount. I took anyone available. Mark did the cut and Leslie did my highlites. I felt very trustful because of all the experience and great reviews...My hair is perfect, the color is very autumnal and the cut has a lot of movement. Just like a loreal commercial!! Recommend highly! - so much happier than the many salons I've tried in Chelsea or uptown. Be Back!

Special Salon Seven
by selinias
I just had the best cut in 5 years. Friends turned me on to Salon Seven. I have long hair and I love layers - so many stylists screw up layers. Mark did a brilliant job. Mark you got a new client plus my family and friends. Prices are fair considering your cut is growing out fantastically! Cant wait for the next experience.

by diltom
I love a lot of gray hair in places. I tried a box and looked like an old man trying to be young. I am in finance and I am only 30 so my looks are important to me. Mark was voted the best on City Search for cuts and I went to Saori for color. they got it!! Its been tough. After the great hair exprecience I went to Lukes Lobster up the block, delicious, and considered this a great NYC day. Love Seventh Street!

Consistantly Great Cuts
by milanoxxx
I've been goint to Mark for 20 years. His cuts, creativity and down to earth manner have made a not so pleasurable experience very pleasurable to me. I want to thank Mark for caring and being such a great person - he is both a friend and my hair stylist. Wonderful experience!

No-show hairdresser
by Thamtara
I had an appointment with Leslie. She did not show up. She did not call. Her cell phone was off when a coworker tried to call her. God forbid something horrible happened, but why was her phone off? Long night of partying for Leslie perhaps?? I came a long way for this haircut and was not offered any compensation for being stood up... not cool at all.
Cons: Stylist didnt show up!

With Much Thanks!!
by m handler
I am a writer and musician. I hate yelp review - sounds very unsophisticated - like people having nothing better to do but sit at the computer writing banal stuff about businesses in a little girl fashion. Found City Search always SAFE. Alas Salon Seven- love the Warhols - Mark, Leslie, and Lori. Its a salon full of smart stylists with multitudes of talent. Was playing with Dylan and needed a new do and a couple streaks. I was afraid to go to the very cheap places - no aesthetic and you get what you pay for, usually. Walking out happily, I was wishing the experience would of lasted longer. Thanks guys!!

I've been going to Salon Seven since it was conceived. Its a relic of NYC. Love the stylists, consistantly great cuts and color - always fantastic. I won't say who I go to because I want to get an appointment easily. Great things: free cleanups and oh yes bring your doggy if you want!! This place is a real find and so is ?????!! Love you guys!!
Pros: best haircut ever

Perfection, Finally!
by lugarlu
Just moved ack to NYC. Read about Mark's cuts for years....I have had bad cuts for the last 5 years living in San Fran. Its such a difficult task finding the right stylist, ambience, and personality - its more difficult than finding a therapist!! He's all I've heard about and more. The setting is true Mark - mellow, artsy, classy - uptown cuts from a downtown guy.

Bohemian / Modernism
by jimjosh
I've lived in the east village all my life. I like some of the changes but i still love the small quaint charming salons, restaurants, and boutiques. Recently I came upon Salon Seven and walked in with no appointment. This salon has a great vibe. I introduced myself to mark and we chatted about art and hair. I decided to get my hair cut without reservations. This proved to be a great decision - the best cut I've ever had!!

Beauty Discount
by denmother
Heard about Saori at Salon Seven. Most of my friends go there for cut/color. I thought it may be a bit expensive but they're offering a 20% discount for first time clients. I need to look great to get a job and feel better about myself. Saori was amicable, polite, and professional. She gave me ideas of how to color without costly maintenance. She did an unbelievable job and I feel like a million bucks. I recommend this place on all levels.

Sweet Seventh Street
by moehair
Read about the best streets in NYC in Time Out. I decided to head to 7th between A and 1st. Lots of interesting restaurants, cupcakes, clothing...and salons.
It wasn't difficult to choose Salon Seven. It was the coolest looking, the best I found on citysearch, so I walked in. Lucky to get an immediate appointment (15% off!) with Lori. She's been there for years. We chatted and she figured out my look quick. She worked fast, with precision, to make my hair look just the right kind of 'messy.'
So much for exploring! At least I found a Salon I will return to.
Pros: Great environment, Attentive staff, professional
Cons: None!

Saw the artfully interesting salon on the web. I've heard about Salon Seven. It is one of the oldest salons in the East Village. Mark cut my hair beautifully. It was curly and shapely and Saori did my highlights. Everyone was so nice, professional and seriously fun. My hair looks awesome and it is easy to do myself with little or no effort. I hightly recommend Salon Seven and don't forget to ask about the discounted special offers.

Went to an art party and saw a girl's hair to die for! She told me she's been going to Mark for 8 years now and Leslie for 2 years for her color. I made my appt. The process (after conversation) took 2 and a half hours. Go to Salon Seven and enjoy the entire experience - love your hair.

DOG FRIENDLY SALON
by marthalaw
I walked into the first interesting looking salon on Sat. while walking my dog, Alllie. I knew I needed a cut and being spontaneous went in. Awesome - dogs allowed- cool people; I decided on Mark who is a master at long layered hair. He is quiet and each snip was meticulously masterful. We chatted and it turned out he knew half my friends and does my husbands hair too! What a small world - great cut. (Allie likes this place too!)

Many Mediocre Salons
by gharris22
Went online to find a new stylist in the East Village. God, 5,000 salons popped up. I did hear about Salon Seven because a friend goes there. I checked out the reviews and the site. Great. I made an appointment with Mark (heard he was great too)!
I loved the salon, music, and charm. Mark greeted me and offered me a libation and sat down to discuss hair. i let my hair get very unruly and scruffy which I like. Don't want the haircut look. He's quiet and concentrated, I was relaxed and confident in his hands. I am so happy to find my new stylist, its been years since I've been ecstatic about my hair.

HAPPY HAIR
by SPARKY
Walked into Salon Seven spontaneously after going to Porchetta next door. It was a beautiful Sunday and I felt great. Lori was available for the cut and I put my trust in her hands. She asked questions so to be clear on what I wanted. The wash/cut/dry took 45 minutes and I loved what I looked like. She showed me different styling techniques as well. This entire experience made my day. Definitely will be a customer - happy!

Best hair I've had in years
by carmen136
Having researched for a very long time, I found the perfect hair salon in Manhattan.
The place is tiny, just 3 chairs, and not very fancy...but at the same time it makes you feel like you're at home, and very well taken care of.
Both my boyfriend and I have our haircuts there (plus color for me), and we both love the results.
I have been highlighting my hair for 10 years, and it has never looked so natural, and it lasts much longer for some reason.
It's definately worth the trip from the UWS!!
Pros: cut and color are excellent, friendly and eccentric staff
Cons: none

No Bad Wine Her
by boster007
Been going to Salon Seven for 10 years. They don't serve bad wine though; just abaraco coffee or water. Its just not about the social condiments, its about the service, talent, and creativity when your paying to have your hair done. I started out with haircuts by mark and after years delved into color. (They have semi-permanent w/ no chemicals.) Bottom line: my cut/color lasts forever. In the ten years I have never been disappointed. I am treated professionally but like a friend too.

Spring Thing
by fressy
I am being careful with my money but salon seven is offering 20% off of womens cut or color. What a deal! I've always wanted to go there. Called to make appt with Mark for my cut and Saori for color. This salon has historical relevance its been there for 13 years!
Mark listens and gives opinions. He is a precision cutter and I felt extremely relaxed. He rechecks his cut - beautiful layered cut. The best I've had in years. Saori, the colorist has been in a stylist for 25 years. We discussed a new spring color palette and that I needed a pick me up, the weather and the economy. She was more talkative and asked me about myself. Really wonderful person. My color with the cut was perfect. I highly recommend this salon to guys and girls and try to take advantage of the discount!

Salon Dilemma Rectified
by richrdNYC
I live on the upper west side and the salons up there tend to be generic, not very hip, or barber shops. I ve tried them all, to no avail. Ive read rave reviews on salon seven (via citysearch), then made an appointment . (btw: I like the fact they are open on sunday too). i asked for lori, heard shes the hair guru for mens cuts.
We had a great chat about hair and other stuff pertaining about my life style. she took about an hour to transform me into a new man and a much younger version i might add.
this will be my routine every 6 weeks.
oh yeah,great web site,great ambience,art and music .
Pros: terrific cut, friendly crew!
Cons: no negatives..only praise

reminiscent of old nyc ,where the neighbors know your name, plentiful cafes, boutiques, and a lovely park.
my day began at salon seven for my cut and color. Its such a cool place.
Ive been going to mark the owner and saori for color.
I love the modern/earthiness feel,no harsh chemical smells and hands on approach.
As usual my hair is gorgeous and i feel fantastic.Primo job as usual!
On to next door cafe Porchetta, then clothes shopping for plentiful deals. oh yes, the salon is pet friendly,so oscar gets to come, now what more could you ask for?

Sunday at Salon Seven
by boyishboy
I love mellow, relaxed salons. Sometimes they are tumultuous and smelly. I googled salons and felt a good vibe from this place (reviews=fantastic). got a hair cut from Lori, who specializes in mens cuts only. I asked for a messy non-haircut look. Easy, shampoo, cut, coffee and great conversation. I love my hair, love Lori - girls seem to notice me more now?!

Gorgeous Gray
by cindy888
I am young and prematurely gray. I do not want to hide it but I want to enhance the color. I work in the art world and have no hair boundaries. My friends told me about Saori. She has 26 years of color experience. We did black and white low lites and decided on a chunky bob. My hair looks gorgeous, like a work of art in itself. the price was fair considering the amount of artistry and talent. The search is over.

I love to pamper myself especially in this economic situation. My friend goes to Saori at salon seven. She's raved about her for years. I made an appt. for a cut and highlites (even got 15% off!!) She was kind and communicative as was everyone in this tiny Parisian like space. We chatted while she meticulously highlited my hair. Time went by quickly. the results were beautiful, shiny color and a bob with choppy layers. I feel so great. I look forward to coming back. Its nice to have a fulfilling experience at a hair salon.......

Mark's The Man
by heathersevers
I have followed mark for over 15 years. I get consistently great haircuts - never disappointed. He is a real find; a real new Yorker who has cut so many famous heads and never brags; a genius at what he does and a genuinely kind person. I dislike writing reviews - boring! Girls, guys, you'll never regret trying Mark!

Will change how you feel about your hair!
by lilzabeth
I'm one of those women with excessively thick hair. I've been to a different salon for every haircut in search for someone that can leave me with a more than mediocre style. I moved into the neighborhood recently and decided to try Salon Seven after reading the positive reviews on Citysearch. I booked my appointment with Mark, the owner of the salon, who comes highly recommended. Not only was he (and his staff) extremely friendly and welcoming but he took the time to ask why I was there, and what exactly I was looking for regarding a cut/style. I told him I had always been lost with my hair and gave him a quick rundown of my morning 'styling' routine and he proceeded to suggest a style that would not only be easy to maintain but was appropriate for my face shape and type of hair. He proceeded to cut my hair in a very deliberate and thorough way and showed me how to style it as he was finishing. I walked out of there feeling like a new person! I will never go anywhere else again- I have found my stylist! Anyone who has given up on their hair or needs a new look and doesn't know where to start- START HERE! Mark and his staff will change the way you feel about your hair!
Pros: Talented stylists, Service, Atmosphere
Cons: None!

Rock N Roll Soul
by RockBot
I am an artist. I hate hair salons so much that I been cutting my own hair for years.
Saw Lori walkin down the street, stopped her to compliment her style and hair. (grey and black stripes) How coincidental that she does mens hair at Salon Seven. I went on a mellow Sunday for my first real cut in six years. I wasn't nervous or apprehensive - she understood my style. I was welcomed graciously, loved the Salon and felt relaxed like I was in someones living room.
Fat cut, easy to style, and no maintenance. God I wish I knew years ago what I'd been missing. I am devoted to Lori. She is truly an artist.

Got Saori's name through a friend. Her hair was cut beautifully and the color was gorgeous. I made an appointment and got in fairly quick. We consulted for 20 minutes, looked at British hair magazines and color charts. She was so polite and professional. She was enthusiastic about the choices we made. I am pleased beyond words and the price was reasonable too. Saori is my new stylist/colorist. I recommend this place to anyone. Everyone seemed to be doing beautiful work.

I don't like to write reviews but I do like to read em. Went to City Search and New York Mag. Lots of choices, some nice web sites, good prices, but Salon Seven caught my eye - website interesting and reviews great.
Went to Mark. We talked about music, film, then hair. Bottom line, best cut ever. My fine hair looked as though I've been on propecia for years. Guys, if you care about your hair go to Mark. He's worth the entire experieince which turned out to be delightful. cool place, great music, pet friendsly.

So, trying to save money I colored my own hair with that Eva Longoria hair color. Well, thank God I live across from Salon Seven. My hair turned out 3 dingy colors and was lifeless. Ran across the street and decided on a color correction with Leslie. She told me it will take time and patience and we must use gentle products, the expense won't matter at this point. Everyone was so accomodating. I was offered lunch and drinks while processing. We chatted a lot too. I felt calm and confident in my choice.
They ended up doing a gorgeous job. The color was radiant and shiny again. The shop experience was a delight. Go to Salon Seven and never use commericla box hair dye. Thank you Salon Seven.

A great New Year Find
by blairisalive
Saw great reviews on city search and yelp. Just moved to the East Village where salons and restaurants prevail everywhere. Salon Seven has been around for 13 yrs and that alone impressed me. The place is very cool, small, modern, and the music was background. (Hate noisy, smelly salons.) Went to Mark and heard he's fabulous with long layered locks. What a cool guy; very down to earth, mellow and his goal is to make you happy. Well he succeeded. I will tell all my gal pals. We were all going to a Bond St. salon that was twice the price. next I'll do color here. What a great New Year find.

Glorious Hair
by rebeccalecca
The tale of 2008 was disasterous. I lost a job I had in fashion for six years. I was depressed and decided the only way to snap out of this nonsense was to have my hair done. The works, cut and highlights! Need to do stuff for myself.
Been going to salon seven for 8 years where mark, genius cutter, has been doing my hair. I am never disappointed with any of his hair styles. Loved my new cut. Leslie did my color and I loved that too. So all you gals who spend your money on booze, ciggys, or restaurants consider doing something great for yourself when down.......your hair is your glory.

Never Disappointed
by SarahBlakeman
I am a review freak. I found Salon Seven on a couple web sites and in magazines and found zero negative things written about them. The salon has been open 12 years and not one bad review?!! Very impressive. I work for a fashion magazine and it's important to convey great style. I've been going to Salon Seven for 5 years and am never disappointed. I actrually have tried all the stylists for cut/color and everyone there is equally creative, talented, and professional. I highly recommend this place. The prices are not cheap but are fair considering how fantastic you look and feel.

TRICKS OF THE TRADE:
Linda Wells, editor of Allure was quoted in the style section of the wall st. journal saying:
I use a lot of mass market facial products - facials are too expensive. When it comes to hair care products, drugstore brands suffice. But, splurging on a a great haircut is a must. You don't need a high end stylist.

I live on the upper West Side, tough to get hair colored and cut with style and taste. Read about Salon Seven on City Search, Yelp and saw an article in Time Out magazine. I made my cut appointment with Mark and color with Saori. Prices were very fair, very high quality. I had a fantastic cut and superb highlights. I wish Salon Salon Seven was close but there's enough amusements in the restaurants and shops everywhere. Had a great day strolling, looking beautiful and very happy.
Pros: Everything fantastic. Great music, very happy.

For 6 years I lived in Sweden and I am now back in NYC living on the lower east side. A lot has changed but I never forgot the best haircut in my life. I even kept the business card. I called and made my appointment with Mark. Its funny but he actually remembered me, greeting me warmly. He is such a great cutter and so unlike all the typical hair dressers that I've experienced. The cut, a masterpiece. I am so happy to be back in NY. My wife's appointment is next week!

I went to Leslie for highlights. Fantasitc job. It's really great quailty. The prices on the internet are cheaper than what they are in the store so they should update their prices on the web. A partial is 195.00 but worth if if you want good work. Don't tell your friends though...this place really is a gem.

Hair Fear
by alissamix
My hair is my glory. I am so afraid to get it cut. I have had bad experiences at almost every salon I go to, and in fact sometimes I try to cut it myself.
Why is it so difficult to find someone who understands long hair with layers? Every hairstylist is "scissor happy."
My friends been going to Mark for 3 years. i love her hair and never thought to go to him?! I am scheduled for today and scared as usual, but after consulting with mark I felt calm, not rushed, and he listened as I explained my neurosis and what I want. My jitters disapated after ten minutes and I could see what he was doing. And he is meticulous and fastidious.
Hair done and terrifically cut - the best cut I ever had in fact. Highly recommend him. Now to get over my color fear......

I am downsizing like everyone else. there are certain things I will never skimp on and thats my hair cut and color, and healthy food.
I must look great because it is reflected in my mood and makes me feel positive about myself. I have been going to Mark for ten years now. Salon Seven caught my eye when I lived in the east village, although I now live in Queens. I look forward to seeing Mark every two and a half months. I love the down to earth environment and all the art featured. Mark is very intelligent and prolific so that helps add to the experience.
I love the pet friendly environment and everytime my dog comes in she gets organic treats. This experience is a delight with plenty of perks.
