The food in the restaurant is tasty - plenty of fresh veggies, good sauces, nice "heat". However, they seem to be unable to fill take-out requests correctly. To top it off, their most recent snafu (yup, there were others) was blamed on us not unpacking the triple knotted bag and opening each meal box to make sure they did it right. Vague excuses (never an apology!) on their part followed: "Someone else answered the phone (i.e. to take the order) while I had to run outside to do something to my car tire " (I kid you not!) and "the cook gets confused when there are too many special requests" (green curry and NO tofu in this instance) - please ...!! Where is the "sorry, we made a mistake and added the tofu you asked us not to put in ... how can we fix this?" Suffice it to say that there are other thai restaurants with equally good food and better customer service. So long sala thai.

Pros: great food

Cons: can't get take-out orders straight

I probably shouldn't write a review while I am upset, but it is what it is.

Thai resturants to me are yay or nay for me and I had two yays (reduced to one after today-June 9, 2006 and that is Lemongrass Thai in Pontiac). Additionally, Thai and Chinese resturant managers have a history of being slow to resolve issues when it comes to bad food. Why is that?

I had always enjoyed the Lafayette location and was in the Eastern Market area and decided to give it a try since they are the same. I couldn't have been more wrong. I ordered the N3 and when I got home and gave it a taste it was sweet beyond belief. It was as though instead of using 1 tablespoon of sugar, someone read it as 1 cup, thats how overly sweet this was.

I called and talked to the manager Tom who swore up and down that the dish was as per usual. I asked him to give the sauce a taste and after being away from the phone for two seconds he told me thats how its supposed to taste. Really? As I decribed above, the difference in the taste was not something you could ignore. I tried removing the sauce, adding lemon juice and neither of these efforts made even the slightest difference.

Badly prepared food is one thing but when the manager is rude, thats when I write the establishment off. I am still pending resolution to this situation.

I was so disappointed when I tried this place! Everyone had really talked it up like it was so fantastic - I'd never heard anything bad at all. The service was extremely attentive, and the decor was nice, but the food was just so ... mediocre. The massaman curry - which I've tried at half the Thai restaurants in Metro Detroit - was the worst I've ever had. It tasted like Chinese food laced with peanut butter. Seriously. I will try it again because the waitstaff was so great, but I'm still reeling from how truly disappointed I was by the experience!

I had the Tom Yum soup, Pad Thai Scallops - Hot, and a Thai Ice tea. The food was great and everyone else at the table was very pleased with the food and service. The decor in the old firehouse location is something a little different, but quite nice.

Located in a renovated fire station at the corner of Eastern Market, the indoor decor is just as exotic. The food is quality Thai but I can't say that I've ever sampled from their sushi bar (I go to Thai restaurants for Thai food). The prices aren't cheap but you definitely get what you pay for. The booths on raised wooden floors are a nice touch.

Sala Thai is definitely the standard to measure by. The food is inexpensive (many lunches are $7-8 for a ton of food). A group from our office goes every month when we have meetings in Detroit, and we crave Sala Thai in between. Everyone gets something a little different, but all agree it is the best Thai food they've had.

I really like this place a lot. The restaurant is very cool, an asain theme throughout. Very tranquil. And the food is excellent, I am a big fan of thai and it is the best I have had in the metro detroit area. Also the prices are very fair, and you get a ton of food.

If you are in the Detroit area I highly suggest stopping by.

I always had a very good liking for thai cuisines. Jeenwong's dishes are really tasty. Their ambiance and service are exceptional. The color of their interiors really match the mood of every single person. Great work. The waiter at our table was very gracious. She made sure that we understood what we were ordering. Their starters were also good. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone who loves oriental cuisine.

Great food, quite authentic! We try to make it Sala Thai at least once a week to try a new dish and haven't been disappointed yet!
