We liked this attraction. It was $6 per adult. It was a self-tour. No stair climbing. Interesting artifact to be seen at your own pace. The waterfall at the end of the cave I would not call small. It was a nice size and rushing hard. Very cold back there! Overall, we really liked this attraction.

I was rather surprised to see the 2 negative reviews of this attraction We visited it in the summer of 2007 and our family really enjoyed i!. It is more than a tunnel. This is an old gold mine that was started during the gold rush of the Black Hills in the early 1880's. While mining for gold the miners got about 600 feet inside the mountain and then blew out an underground water stream. This must have been a surprise for these miners! The surrounding area is natural and beautiful and it is a great place to take children. We thought the rates were reasonable, under age 7 were FREE! We would recommend this attraction. The staff was friendly and you don't get that very often these days.

Thunderhead falls was listed as a great tourist attraction when I was looking for attractions in the Rapid City area. So I decided to cover it on our trip to Mt.Rushmore and I was very disappointed with this attraction. You need to walk in a cave for some distance and then you see a small waterfall. Thats it!!! You need to pay admission fee to see this place!! It was total waste of time and money. I suggest people to stay away from this place.

The trip to the thunderhead underground falls was very disappointing. We had covered it along with our trip to Mt.Rushmore. After reading the description about this falls our expectations were high but we were very much disappointed with this so called attraction. You need to walk inside a cave for some distance and at the end you see the falls. The walk is very less only. There's nothing great about this falls. All you see is a water flow inside a cave. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. It's a waste of time and money (the admission fee) in my opinion.
