Pleasant and Relaxing Atmosphere, Helpful and knowledgeable staff, The menu is fantastic for any seafood lover - I would recommend:Crisp Calamari (If you like calamari - or even if you haven't in the past - this is guaranteed to be one of the best you've ever had) It is fresh calamari orange, arugula, and ginger vinaigrette - (Yes I know this dish well it is my favorite) Ive tried to achieve the dish on my own - It did not come close. . . The fish here is always perfectly tender - and the chef has put together some clever, tasty, dishes - sure to keep you coming back for more.

My girlfriend and I visited Boston this weekend and had one night to choose the perfect dinner spot. We definitely made the right decision by coming to Great Bay. The ambiance, service, food and music were all excellent, although the striped bass we ordered had olives, which were not mentioned on the menu. All the other items that we ate were spectacular however. I highly recommend the spicy halibut taco ceviche or any of their other ceviches since that is their specialty. The summer corn chowder soup with shrimp and chili oil was also amazing. I had the scallops with bacon which was a fantastic combination. The wine list is extensive and you can find everything from $34 domestic bottles to rare $600+ bottles of bubbly. All in all this place is a top notch restaurant and I would highly recommend it. Our only complaint was the olives with the striped bass, considering we despise olives and they were not listed on the menu!

I went to Great Bay for Restaurant Week and was disappointed. The portions were so small that after the three course meal, we were all still hungry. The food was fine and the decor was nice, but not worth the money. The regular menu entrees may offer more interesting recipes and regular portions, but we won't go back to find out.

There is nothing I don?t like about Great Bay. The only thing I could put my finger on is the ?long walk? to the restroom. Great Bay serves some of the best seafood in Boston. It has a great and diverse menu. The Clam Chowder is the best in Boston, however, all their entrees are phenomenal. Service is always to high standard, and the decor is fun and unique. Go here for some of the best seafood in Boston.

Loved great bay, our waitress was fantastic who gave wonderful recomendations without being pushy. The food was really delicious. There were 7 of us and we all really enjoyed our meal and look forward to coming back again, however the cod dish was not as raved about as the others.

I tried the Dollar Menu here and it is amazing. I prefer to have a little bit of this and that rather than sit down for a very big meal. That's why this menu is great. So many choices of things to eat. Shrimps, Scallops, Oysters and Clams...all excellent. The bread, very hot and fresh. My waiter was very nice and friendly. The food is very fresh and tasty. Great Service.

I stopped by Great Bay to meet up with my parents at the Hotel Commonwealth last week. I was in to get a drink and discovered they had a dollar menu offered in their lounge area. It's only offered early in the night but it had oysters, lobster and shrimp dumplings, and even their butterscotch pudding. Bring twenty bucks and you'll eat like a king. The waitress was very nice and very knowledgable, and the room is always very cool. I'd definitly recommend checking the place out for anybody. I've had dinner before but the dollar menu is new, and a welcomed addition for my budget

I stopped in to Great Bay the other night after a frantic day of shopping, wrapping, arrangements -- ugh! I thought I just wanted to be left alone and have my cousin come join me in the lounge for a drink. My server however was very pleasant -- engaging without being overbearing. By the time my cousin had arrived I had decided this was where I wanted us to eat dinner and we had a fantastic meal! The lobster potstickers were a stand-out, as was their sake selection. But the best part about it were the real people who were waiting on us -- a manager helped serve some food, large guy with a squarish head, and a hostess and bartender with a red beard also figured in there. These people allowed me to relax -- a mighty feat! I'll be back!

I recently had dinner at Great Bay on a Friday and had one of those memorable dining experiences that seem to be few and far between lately in this city. From the moment we were greeted by the lovely hostess we felt so welcome by the staff. Our server was very efficiant and knowledgable without being intrusive.
We began our dinner with appetizers from the "island". Delicious tuna tartare, seaweed salad, and a tuna sashimi form the main menu that was served with mushroom dumplings. Our main courses continued to impress. We had Sea Breem and Toutaug, again, so yummy! We split a dessert and almost wished we had had another as our raspberry jelly bean ice cream was suprisingly one of the best desserts we have had in awhile.
We will be back and continue to go back .

My roomate & I were very excited (well, maybe me more so than she was). I remember reading about this place when it first opened up and saw so much advertising and hype...me being a HUGE foodie, also working in the industry for quite some time now. The place was beautiful, lovely decor, fantastic dining room. We were greeted by the host staff who was very friendly, outgoing, attentive, gives eyecontact while talking to you (all those things GOOD hostesses do); sat at a table in the lounge area....and so the awful experience begins. We sat at our table for about 6-8 minutes before ANYONE came over (that does not seem like a long time, but try it sometime... imagine being excited about eating somewhere and you haven't even been offered a sip of water) The cocktail server came over to take our drink order, we wait for our drinks that also took a long time. I do have sympathy for this situation when the bar is busy & making drinks for your table, especially if the bartender doesn't like you...it is nerve wrecking...our drinks took so long we had time to browse the entire menu & figure out what we wanted for apps & entrees. When our server did come back to bring our drinks, she dropped them off as if we may have needed more time to look at the menu! At that time I then asked if we could have water & bread, and we were ready to order our appetizers, who knows how long it would've taken for her to get back. I'll skip over the food part, as it was mediocre at best. Expensive meals should knock your socks off with taste..not only presentation. Well, I ate as much of the food my taste buds could stand, we were offered desert, said no, check please, put cash on the table needed change, waited, waited, waited...then finally asked the hostess for change (our server had walked by the table about 3 times before we decided to ask the host.) Our server then came over and said, "I'm sorry, I didn't realize you needed change". Silly me, I still left the girl 25%!

We went to Great Bay for Easter brunch. The restaurant has a very nice atmosphere, the food was very good and also had a excellent service. Oh, I gotta compliment on the bread and pastries as well. They were all excellent! (I'm from San Francisco and very picky about food) I'd difinately go back again for dinner next time.

We stumbled upon Great Bay this week for brunch and I can not put into words how amazing it was! You walk in and the space is like no other dining room in Boston. It is probably the nicest, most innovative space I have seen in awhile. They give you a basket of complimentary breakfast breads that are to die for. Match those with a "Ghost of Mary" cocktail and it makes for a very pleasant Sunday. We will definelty be back.

With the explosion of choices in Kenmore Square it took my wife and I a few extra months to get back to Great Bay and man, did we miss it! Some of the new restaurants in the area are as unfinished as that hideous rubble of a bus shelter which I get to see every morning on my commute to work. Some are earnestly trying and I don't fault them for whatever throe of growth they're in. But Great Bay just nailed it again. The food is, if anything, BETTER now that Chef Chizmar is in residence, and the service just seemed like a ballet. It's still not cheap, I'll grant you, but Julie and I decided to save the money we would spend at another one of the square's average eateries, cook for ourselves that night, and come to eat here where they are going to get it RIGHT.

I was in Great Bay for my birthday last week before the baseball game. I'll be honest, I'm not crazy about seafood really. I ordered the pork chop, and I'm telling you it was the best chop I have ever had. I've been to some serious steak houses before too. After the game we went back and had dessert before heading home. You've got to try the butterscotch pudding, it's awesome. This place is great.

First of all, the decor made me feel like I was in a cosmopolitan city instead of our own hidebound brick and mortar capital. Next the service is... NICE. Not overly rough and back slapping, nor too hip to leave me out. My wife and I have watched this city grow up over the past say ten years (more like five) and now we've got a seafood restaurant to remind me why we didn't move to San Luis Obispo or even Providence. It's a vibe, but it was also in the halibut with the chive creme fraiche filled squash blossom and tomato water. Is it the dreamy clouds sake or the apricot cake?... Why are all these people smiling?

My friends and I go out every week to try a new place, last night we went to Great Bay and were amazed. Our server recommended the island bar to start, pointing out a raw bar in the middle of the restaurant where a chef could shuck oysters, or put together a variety of items for us. Unable to decide, the chef prepared a tasting of four of the items, a spicy beef salad, miniature halibut tacos, a lightly seared wild pacific salmon, and a fresh seaweed salad with crisp shitake. I am a shellfish lover and after enjoying this tasting I split some of the Thai style PEI mussels with a friend, ordering a bottle of the Shea Chardonnay, a welcome surprise, since I had not been able to find a bottle since visiting the west coast in May. I finished my meal with the seared Hawaiian tunaexceptional.

Pretentious and overpriced, we were let down. Visiting from San Francisco we were psyched for great seafood. If I want to spend $15 for 6 oysters and $30+ for an entree, this better be outstanding. Not. The chowder was a vat of yellow heavy cream with specks of clam somewhere. The Halibut Tacos (great idea) were 1.5" long -- I kid you not, unremarkable, and about 15 smackers. Asked for a glass of buttery California chardonnay. One choice: Byington and mind you $12. I suppose a weird request in a hi-tone seafood restauranrt. Let's put it this way: $175 for 2 people, some appetizers, one entree only, yes we drank but what else are we to do? The place was empty. No surprise. Why do some restaurants think high prices connote quality? How about substituting all this pretention for high quality value and a wine guy that knows something. Sigh.

I went to Great Bay a few days ago with a some friends and sat in their lounge. We had great time. The food was fantastic, and the service was very attentive and helpful. The halibut tacos were great, and the tuna tartare is the best I've ever had!!! It's about time this town had such a cool upscale seafood restaurant.

My family and I had the most wonderful night at Great Bay last week for my graduation dinner. Our server Noah was great. He had excellent recommendations and knew a great deal about the menu and wine list. The lobster was awesome and went perfectly with the lovely french Champagne. The butterscotch pudding I had for dessert was absolutly delicious. I'm so glad that I've found a restaurant so wonderful and so close to where I live. I will definitly be back.

Great Bay is refreshing - you would think in this city that one would have a hard time choosing which seafood restaurant to dine in, but not with Great Bay. The food is clean, simple and delicious. It changes daily (very exciting) and there is a beautiful and unique ceviche bar there as well. The service is kind and knowledgable with out being stuffy. I can't wait to go back!!!!!!!

I recently visited Great Bay. The atmosphere and service were great. The 2 people in my party who ordered seafood entrees were pleased with their food. However, the lobster bisque was bland and the non-seafood entrees (specifically, the lamb), while obviously of high quality and cooked perfectly, had little or no taste. I'd advise guests to stick to the seafood.

I am so glad that Boston has a seafood restaurant it can really be proud of. On my most recent visit to Great Bay I had what was probably the best lobster dish that I have ever had, and I truly mean that. I asked our waiter
( I think his name was Ryan)what wine would go best with the dishand he selected a Puligny Montrachet that mirrored the dish perfectly.
I could go on for a while but I'll save you, but in closing, bravo Great Bay!

This is my second review of Great Bay because it deserves it. Great Bay knows how to run an upscale restaurant in Boston. Not only is the food spectacular (tuna tartare is perfect, salad with walnuts is amazing, calamari is delectable!), the service is perfect. Water glasses are constantly full, wine service is great and desserts are spectacular. Upon ordering the incredible butterscotch pudding for a birthday, I casually mentioned that the rocky road sundae looked good and low and behold, it arrived on our table, on the house. These people just know how to keep patrons returning.

Wonderful experience! From the moment we walked into the door until we left for the evening, everything was perfect! All of the staff was very friendly and accomodating. The wine list was encompassing, the clam chowder was tasty and served in an interesting way, and dinner (sole with hollandaise sauce) was excellent! Try the butterstoch pudding for dessert. Our water glasses were constantly replenished, napkins re-folded, and silverware replaced before the main course...all signs of a professional, reputable, fine dining establishment. I would definitely recommend Great Bay to others, and will be returning myself!

My boyfriend and I went to Great Bay for Valentines. This restaurant does not live up to its reputation. We had to wait nearly 40 minutes for our table, with hardly an appology. The food was slow and inconsistant, although the lobster was great. Our waitress Sharon was nice but when paying these prices we would prefer not to be referred to as "you guys", and asked if we were "all set". While the place was understandably busy, we did not feel special.

Great Bay is a welcome addition for Boston seafood fans. The food is excellent although not up to RM/Oceana standards yet. The room and setting is delightful with a spacious setup and moderate noise levels. However, the service needs to improve--a recent visit found an inattentive waiter with long breaks in between courses even though the restuarant was not full. The waiter's knowledge level about the cheeses was also inadequate. Hope Great Bay improves and becomes "great."

Pros: food, design

Cons: service

This is my new fave upscale in the city. I love Teatro too but this is different. First, service is perfect. No flaws. Second, food is delectable. I started with the perfect lobster ravioli app, perfect size, taste is light. Next was tuna tartar - comes with a dollop of wasabi mayo on top and wonderful "crunchers." Couln't be better (gives Mistral's a run for its money). My husband started with a delicious gaszpacho and had a fish - which he loved. I think maybe I mentioned the word anniversary at some point and our SINFUL butterscotch pudding came with two glasses of champagne. Attention to detail here is great, food even better. Don't wait.

Pros: food, service, location

This place is a Gem..the decor, which I understand to be another David Manfredi interior (same as Via Matta) is wonderful. The restaurant is spacious yet has a warm feeling. THe food was great. Those duxbury oysters were fabulous..as was the watermelon Mojito...the swordfish was perfect. One of the better seaford restaurants in Boston...its worth the trip to Kenmore square.

My husband and I went to Great Bay for dinner after The Red Sox as we love Christopher Myers and Chef Schlow's Radius. The bar/Island area was quite busy. We enjoyed a watermelon mojito before we were seated in the beautifully designed dining room. We shared the Duxbury Oysters and the Chowder -- it was the best chowder we have had! Chef Jeremy Sewall is brilliant.

My husband had the steak and I had the cod. Both were prepared to perfection. Our server was quite good and was helpful with menu suggestions.

This by far is the best seafood town. I am looking forward to our next Sox game.

Went to Great Bay last week per my interest in the Via/Radius ties and was pleasantly surprised to find a very happening bar scene, delicious food, fun music, and eye candy. My friend and I ate at the "island" where the food is tapas style servings of fun things like ceviche and tuna belly (try the curry soup!) I chatted with the "island" guy and he said the dinner menu is great so I will be sampling that soon. Bravo to Great Bay for brightening up Kenmore!

I recently had the opportunity to dine with my brother and his (soon-to-be in-law) gfriend. Upon hearing of Great Bay's opening, thought I'd show the two New Yorkers some Boston cuisine, and they (we) could not have been more impressed. Everything from the chowder's presentation to the trendy take of the traditional NE lobster roll, the stage was set for a great evening. The extnesive wine list more than complemented the entres, and I would contend the the lobster is the best I've had since living in New England (which is going on a decade). Although the msuic can be too 'hip,' the service was excellent, and although the restaurant is in its infancy, I will look forward to taking family and business associates down the line..

Great job Great Bay!

I took my parents here for their anniversary and it was an experience that they will never forget. The staff had made them feel incredibly special. We constantly got special attention and acknowledgment that it was their special day. I don't think there are words to describe the food. When you close your eyes you feel like you are picking the vegetables of a garden thats how fresh they taste. My family has many chefs in it and I have never tasted lobster as good as I had it at Great Bay. Boston has waited to long for a Great Seafood restaurant and I am glad it is finally here

I had dinner with my wife last night at Great Bay. After hearing so many great things I had to check it out. This is Boston's ONLY seafood restaurant. From the moment we entered the restaurant, we were treated like royalty. The door staff were professional and friendly. The service was impeccable. And the food...undoubtedly the best seafood I have ever had and I grew up in Maryland.....Even the manager came over to check on our food. Bravo to the Chef(Jeremy Sewall?), thank you for coming to Boston.
