Petit Robert is always billed to be such a great French bistro in the middle of the South End. After having visited a few times I would say that there are other more charming places that I would prefer in the same neighborhood. The food has been a bit hit or miss and the service is terrible. I feel that the service is a bit ironic in that it mimics the stereotypical vision of a French restaurant. If the food were wonderful then I would definitely get over the service but it's not consistently good enough. The specials can be quite good. The atmosphere is a little beyond cozy bordering on cramped. I say go down a couple of blocks and eat at Giacomo's. You'll pay a fraction as much and enjoy it infinitely more.
