It was horrible. The waitress acted as if she was doing me a favor by serving me. She seemed preoccupied--although I couldn't figure out why--there weren't many diners there. The food was mediocre at best and was served at room temperature. No attempt at making this a pleasant experience for me, the customer. I plan on continuing to take the advice of another reviewer and continue to patronize PEACHES on Lewis Avenue between Macon and Decatur Streets.

Pros: Conveniently located, nice decor

Cons: Food, slow service, lack of professionalism

Picture it...3:50 PM on a warm Saturday Afternoon. Myself and my friends, one of whom came all the way from TEXAS to hang with us, arrive at Solomon's Porch. According to the Solomon's Porch website they serve brunch until 5:00 PM. So we arrive, ready for what we believe will be a tasty, fun afternoon with friends.

"We're no longer serving brunch" huffs our service as she hastily places dinner menus in front of us and disappears. When she finally does resurface and we ask her what time do they stop serving brunch "4 o'clock"....and hastily disappears. Now, we are confused....because as stated...it's 3:50 PM. When we finally see her again, we mention that the website stated that they serve brunch until 5:00 Pm, "We're no longer serving brunch"

Disappointed and in utter disbelief with the service....we wait...a few anxious minutes. We know that they will turn this around. Surely the server will come to us and assure us that there are good dinner options and that we should stay. Surely she will apologize for the confusion on the website and assure us that it will be corrected. Surely...they will try to remedy the situation.

Alas, no remedy was offered...no solution, nothing. All we got were huffs, puffs and an eager dismissal. In this day and age, with the economy the way it is...can anyone really afford to lose a customer???!!! Can you really lack service in that way? Restaurants are a costly business, with waste and overhead....good customer service saves you money. The repeat customer is the bread an butter of the restaurant business.

All in all DO NOT wast your time or EVER set your foot, pinky toe or whatever into Solomon's Porch!! The service is a mess and they do not value yours or anyone else's business. Please stimulate the economy elsewhere, like at Peaches, 82 South or Babouche.

Happy Eating!

Being a long time resident of Bed-Stuy I decided to check out Solomon's Porch one evening for take out. When I got home and opened the food which took nearly 45 minutes to make I was utterly disappointed. The calamari I ordered was fried so hard that it was barely edible. The fried chicken was also fried hard and it was extremely dry, the collard greens were equivalent to eating dry discolored leaves. I was so disappointed that I contacted the restaurant to voice my issues. I was told to bring the food back for a full refund ($20) however I opted for a complimentary brunch as a way to give the restaurant a 2nd chance of impressing me. I went back 2 days later as agreed upon and much to my surprise no one at the restaurant knew of my issue or arrangement with one of the managers, although I provided my name, and the date I would return. The manager present at the time called the other to check my story. I was then told that my previous bill only totaled $9 (although I was previously offered a full refund of $20). I was amazed at how the information was communicated between staff. Everything seemed perfectly fine when speaking to the first manager on the phone. In addition, the manager on site spoke so low that he was almost inaudible (I think he didn't want other customers to know about my food and service complaint). The service I received was unprofessional and I refuse to ever step foot in that establishment. I informed the manager that I was not pleased with their food, service, professionalism and that I would take my business elsewhere. Lastly, I would not recommend Solomon's Porch to anyone who inquires about a good place to eat in the neighborhood. Good luck to all of you who decide to venture inside. On a positive note, there is a nice decor and good music.

Though I'm really glad to have a restaurant in BedStuy, this place feels like a waste of space. On several occasions when dining in, it took 10 minutes for someone to bring water, another 10 for them to come back and take my order and at least 45 for the prepared food to actually arrive. I wasn't overly hungry when I came in, but I was ravenous by the time the food came. Every time I attempt to eat there, a couple menu items are not available (once, I asked for a turkey burger 3 days straight only to find out they wouldn't be in 'til the following week). The desserts are average-tasting and overpriced. This place is big on style and pretention, but doesn't have the quality service or food to back it up. BedStuy residents still pack it b/c where else are they going to go? They also tried to slip an entertainment charge on my bill once when I was having an early dinner on a Sunday poetry night. I came for food, not poetry, so it was a little shady to try and charge me for both when I arrived long before the entertainment began. If you're used to any non-fast food dining, Solomon's Porch will disappoint.

The food at solomons porch is pretty pretty damn good, if you ask me! When I first moved to brooklyn 3 years ago, it was the first place in my neighborhood I went for a sit down dinner. I would continue to go back every other weekend or so and make sure to try everything on the menu, everything but the shellfished items cause unfortunatley I am allergic. My favorite of all is the spinach and goat cheese salad. WOW! you can also bring your own bottle....live music, good food, hot date, and a bottle on a nice evening to walk home....how can you go wrong???

Who knew that I could find a great brunch spot right in my neighborhood. The salmon croquet are so light and savory. Their omelettes are really really good. I also had strawberry pancakes and they were so fluffy and not messy or mushy. I enjoyed tall glass of iced latte. The place is very homey on the weekend morning and afternoons- you could bring your NY Times and just relax. They even have outdoor seating- it's a really cool find in Bed-Stuy. I didn't expect that level of quality and ambience. And it's really not expensive. I think it's a good amount of food for your buck.

I've also had dinner there too. I don't know about the other diners, but I enoyed that too. I've had their Salmon- GREAT! seafood stew-MUAH! The Buffalo Wings are light and crispy with an original sauce I haven't tasted anywhere before. Plus they always have live entertainment and a nice wine list. AGAIN, a very cool spot after work or brunch time!

Pros: Particular dishes, Brunch, Live Performances, Open Late

Cons: The restaurant is packed- some dishes may run out :(

The service is good which is a plus but the food is awful! Everytime that I pass I see people inside who seem to be enjoying their meal so I decided to try it...big mistake! I guess the customers were not used to superb menus because I did not enjoy anything that I ate, especially the dessert. YUCK!

Pros: Cute little local spot

Cons: nasty food

Food here can be touch and go - though the salmon croquettes, soups and burgers are always a safe, delicious bet. Avoid the cakes which are not made on site. Friendly, if a little self-concious, service - jazz nights are a little too loud for a comfortable dining experience, tho' the new presence of beer and wine could make for a chill hang out time on those nights in leiu of dinner.
