Regent Thai Cuisine

★★★★☆
The atmosphere gives you a sense of being far away from Washington and many of the signature dishes set this restaurant apart from the crowd.

As a huge fan of Thai cuisine, I had always been curious by this (seemingly) tiny restaurant on lower 18th St. I finally went there for dinner with a friend of mine who was visiting from NY, and we had a wonderful time! The inside of the restaurant is beautifully decorated (wall carvings, statues, tapestries), with low lighting that sets the mood. The service was attentive, but not over-bearing. They served some of the yummiest Thai Iced Tea I've had in the city, and it came in cute little ceramic urns. A while back I was told this place had some of the greatest Drunken Noodles around, and I can confirm: it's DELICIOUS. My friend got the Beef Pad Thai and she was equally as pleased. Apps were share-able and satisfying. Best part was, we both walked out with lunch for the next day. The portions were huge, and all at an affordable dinner price. I would definitely recommend The Regent to any Thai cuisine enthusiasts. They also have outdoor seating, but there was a 45 minute wait (nice Saturday night). If you're dying to sit outside, I would get their early.Dinner: $$-$ out of $$$$$

I LOVE this restaurant! The food is fantastic! I do not thinkt hat there is anything that my friends or I have tried that I have not enjoyed. However, what really makes this a great place to eat is the waitstaff. I appreciate the fact that our waiter remembered my visit 2 weeks prior and was able to suggest dinner options based on my earlier meal! He also made wonderful recommendations based on a brief discussion of the menu. Since he did a great job the first time I have come to rely on all the waitstaff for their opinions of what is good on any given night. It is a great place to have a meal. Also, the best Manhattan that I have ever been served!!!

PROS: Lovely food, Excellent service, very pleasant setting
CONS: can be difficult to find parking for the car-enhanced crowd
