the film i watched was scratched up and there were lines dancing across the screen for most of the film. i went with friends who didn't care as much but i thought it looked terrible. as we were walking out i stopped and asked the manager to address the situation. he informed me that because i sat through the whole thing, i was ineligible for a refund.
now i care about my movie-going experience and this isn't the first time i've had a poor one because of scratched or dirty film here. the place doesn't take good care of its films. which, in my opinion, is inexcusable if i'm going to pay $10.50 to see a movie. if other movie theaters can figure out how to show movies that aren't in bad shape, criterion can, too.
shoddy, criterion. very shoddy.

Pros: it's a very average movie theater

Cons: films are dirty and it's distracting to watch a film that's scratched up

I've never been to a movie theatre like the Criterion. They are located in downtown New Haven and they are fabulous. It is very clean and the entrance to the theatre has large collages of old fashioned movie stars. They have a bar in the theatre so you can make a night of it. Also...On the weekends they have "specialty" movie deals like Insomniac Theatre playing some cult films and older movies starting at 11:30pm, they also have Movies and Mimosas on Sunday mornings where they show older movies from the 1940's and on...
