This place is seriously a best kept secret.....I randomly drove by one day and decided to stop, I haven't stopped going since. The pulled pork sandwich is the best 6 dollars I've ever spent...its HUGE and full of flavor! Among the other things I've tried and loved were the ribs (fall off the bone goodness), beef brisket, sweet potato fries and i could go on and on!!!!! I've never had a bad experience at the pig pit and always leave with a smile on my face and a full stomach! If you like great eats and good southern hospitality i suggest stopping by this place!

I had recently gone to the Pig Pit BBQ in Cohoes to try some so-called BBQ. As I waited to place my order (somewhat busy ) I could hardly hear as the Country music coming from the radio was so loud. Anyway, as I looked around I had noticed a few flies buzzing around. Do we have flies in the cold weather months? Anyway, I felt so.....disgusted. Some worker from the back came out to use the restroom and he looked so dirty, with his long hair and dirty clothes and hat. I surely did not want him to make my food. I decided enough is enough and I had just walked out the door. I never did get the chance to try the BBQ food. Thumbs down, until you clean up the place and have your staff clean themselves up too!

I have been eating here since I moved to Cohoes, Love their new location off Dyke avenue. They made it look like a little barn, you can now eat inside and be comfortable, or even outside under their covered area. Their prices are great on some of their items. They always give you alot of meat and are always willing to make it how you want it. Tex might not be the friendliest person but he sure knows good southern BBQ!!

I read the review for the Pig Pit before giving it a try...and I am unhappy to report that I was disappointed. The corn fritters however, were, fantastic...perfectly fried ooey gooey sweet creamed corn, I wish I had just ordered those. The ribs were extremely dry...which is not to mean they did not come with a container of sauce...oh no, what I mean is that the meat was leathery , very tough to chew, and oddly not very smoky. The barbeque sauce was nothing special, and the potato salad was not bad. The corn muffins were very good, very moist and sweet, and their chili was a wonderful smoky bowl of meat and beans and cheese. For anyone who plans on giving this place a try, I would advise you to stay away from the ribs...which, in my humble opinion, pretty much eliminates the point of going. Oh, and regarding the price...it is comparable to Giffy's or Chico's, and NOWHERE near as good!

I ordered the pulled pork sandwich. Out came this huge open-faced sandwich with a fork stuck in the middle. It is the dry rub barbecue. The meat was tender and delicious. It is right across the street from Cumby's. This is a place for barbecue purists.
