I have been to the wine cellar many times. This is one of the best fondue in the city. This restaurant reminds me very much of my first fondue experience in Paris. Staff and my waiter was very friendly and attentive. Our waiter recommended

The cheese fondue was ok, but when we were going out the door, there was a bunch of trash bags in the alley. They were filled with boxes of cheese fondue from the supermarket. I can't believe it, they use cheese fondue from a box.

Ugh.

This fondue is incredible!! I cant say enough how great my meal was. It is pricey, but it is worth it. It is an intimate restaurant with a great atmosphere. The wall is covered in paintings and it is underneath ground level for a cozy feel.

WORST NIGHT EVER!?? - ?? - Today
Extremely over rated and over priced. I made dinner reservation for a nice quiet romantic night with my husband New years eve. With in 5 minutes of sitting it turn into the worst night ever.It was clear that our waitress was drunk the second we sat down. We order a bottle of wine to start and she comes and pours us the wine and walks away with the bottle. It then took 45 minutes to order our food. The owner was HAMMERED!! stumbling around bumping into things and people. smashing glasses and bottle of alochol and no one cleaning anything up. Giving people who were waiting at the door shoots and taking shoots with them!!! other people in the resturant were picking up the pieces of broken glass off the floor. I order the fish as my entree and my husband the beef tenerloin( which our wonderful waitress never asked him how he wanted it cooked.) 45 minutes later when our food finally come out they hand me the fish which looked ok, and my husband the lamb?? something he did not order, when he told the waitress she looked annouyed and took it back, as I waited for a few for his food to come out he told me to just eat before mine gets cold, (too late come out on the colder side(its been sitting waiting to be served cold)) All the fish on my dish was way over cooked, everything was mushing...I could have made better fish in the dark. When my husband finally gets his meal and he cuts into the beef we realize its raw, not even rare, purple cold and RAW! he again sends it back(nervously, he too in the food industry) When he gets his food for the 3rd time all they did was take the same piece of meat throw it back into the oven or what ever and cook it till it cooks all its flavors right out. thru the whole night and only having 3 waiters on, and 2 out of those 3 were drunk. the one and only sober one saved the night.(I personally hunted her down to tip her and only her) took a long time but she did single handly took care of everyone. I watched people wait and hour to get there credit cards back, other wait 45 minutes to have there dinner plates cleared. most people paying the bill on a prix fixed menu and skipping out on dessert, with no discounts. I am disgusted with the service and the poor qaulity of the food. My husband is in the industry and I have been to alot of high scale resturants, but this was the worst. By the time we finished there was no time for us to make it to anywhere else we wanted to go. so we spent midnight, on the train. thank you wine cellar.

My girlfriend and I came here for dinner yesterday. I have eaten here before, so I know what I was getting into, but my girlfriend never experienced fondue before. Since we only had an hour we only did the cheese and dessert fondue. The cheese fondue was very good. I??ve been to the Meltingpot before, but you can??t compare these restaurants. Cheese at the Wine cellar is a top notch!!! The sides it came with were bread, carrots, celery and apples. I really liked that it was nice and thick. Then we had a dessert fondue. It is dark chocolate with marshmallows and fruits. It was amazing! You never go wrong when you go to the wine cellar!!! As to the wine list ?? I am not a big wine drinker, but for a real wine lover ?? it??s a paradise.

Don't let the outside of the restaurant fool you, this place is a gem. How can you go wrong with wine and fondue. Absolutely delicious. The atmosphere is cozy and relaxed. The service is accommodating and pleasant. I recommend going during restaurant week and taking advantage of the three course deal.

This place is a lot of fun. Yes, they have an incredible wine list (although the markups are kind of extreme), but the best part is the fondue. They do cheese fondue with bread, a selection of meats and different oils for your entree (which you cook yourself at the table), and chocolate with fruit, poundcake, and brownie pieces for dessert. They do a few different kinds of chocolate fondue - we got it with Kahlua mixed in and it was SO yummy.

A little tip - if you make your reservation on opentable you'll get 1,000 points, which is the equivalent of $10 once you cash in your points for a dining rewards check.

People say that too much of anything is not good for you baby, but I don?t know about that at the Wine Cellar.
It starts off slow and smooth. Quiet decor, Carla Bruni singing soft sultry chanson. The host gently removes your coat and ushers you to your seat. It?s almost too perfect of a moment, especially knowing that it?s only just begun.

Food and love share multiple qualities, foremost being the element of choice. Whether an extensive menu or a crowded nightclub, one has a cornucopia of options upon which to dine. That is why Fondue is so undeniably titillating.

The Cheese
The Classic is always a steady date. Emmentale and Gruyere in smooth brandy, add a little wine and you have a reliably good start to a meal. If you are feeling a little bit crazy, the Brittany might be your dish de nuit. However, if you are a romantic at heart, desiring passion and flare, you should taste the French Gruyere.

At first, you maneuver awkwardly with the miniature fondue forks?dipping hard dry pieces of bread and potatoes tentatively into the molten pit of warm, soft fromage. But with practice makes perfect, and in no time, you gain expertise.

With the last bite, you almost peak with satiation and delight, but soon regain your center as you prepare for the entree.

After seeing other reviews for the Wine Cellar, I was a little weary of going and what I would encounter. However, after my dinner tonight I can definitely say that other people must have had rare encounters there. I will certainly be back again as I had a wonderful time!

This was not my first time having fondue, having dined everywhere from a chain fondue place before [The Melting P0T] to an authentic fondue restaurant in Montreal, among others. The Wine Cellar ranks up there as one of the best!

The have an extensive wine list and non-fondue menu items for those who aren't into fondue either. And for fondue, the prices weren't bad either! The service was wonderful - the waiter was knowledgable, the bus boy was attentive to clearing our utensils and filing our waters, food was served quickly... It wasn't overly crowded when we went which was nice since it is a small restaurant.

I have no complaints and would highly recommend the Wine Cellar!!

Some friend and I went here for a birthday celebration and we ended up getting hassled the entire time. We just wanted to order some dessert and came to find out that there were rules to eating here. No where on the menu did it say that we have to order an entree in order to order dessert. When we tried to order just dessert, which was $30 for three people and there were 8 of us, the manage came over and told us they didn't do that. We ended up paying $60 a head for dinner and the entire time we were treated very poorly. The manager kept coming over and telling us what we could and couldn't do. He wasn't even dressed up properly, he was in a tattered old t-shirt and a old button up shirt. We left a note for the water when we left letting him know that he was great but his boss might want to buy a suit if he was going to be so rude to his customers. The manager, who happened to be the owner, followed us down the street to tell us that he had too much money and didn't need to dress to impress. And that he didn't need us. I recommend that you find a different place for dinner if you want a better evening than we had.

The fondue was tasty however, our party of 6 people was harassed all night by the co-owner you see on the ad video. He was in a tattered corduroy over coat and a tee shirt and jeans as he proceeded to explain that he doesn't let anyone order anything but 3 courses, and when we tried to find something on the menu that wouldn't cost us $40 each, he forced us into a set menu that ran us upwards of $375. The waiter was very accommodating, but the owner thought he was better than everyone who walked through the door, and his demeanor ruined my night!

Granted, I didn't check the website carefully, there was only a fixed price menu for Valentine day. $75 per person. The price is acceptable but the choice of selection was very limited. We ordered salmon rolls and tomatoes salad, which turned out to be pretty good but not good enough at $75 per mean (drinks not included). The meat fondue was okay, shabu-shabu is much better, and the quality of meats will be better as well. Chocolate fondue was good, but you have 3 marshmellows, few grapes, 3 or 4 slices of banana for two people. I thought it's the size of the serving was pretty pathetic. Conclusion: Not worth the price and I will not go back. You can do prepare fondue easily at home, I was curious about the meat/seafood fondue but seafood wasn't an option.

My husband and I decided to give this place a shot a little over a month ago and had a wonderful experience. The fondues were excellent. We had the dinner for 2 and it was the perfect amount of food. This comes with a cheese fondue as a starter, an oil fondue with a selection of meats, and a chocolate fondue for desert. They have a very extensive wine list and the wait staff was very helpful and attentive. We had reservations for a Saturday night and were seated immediately. The place is very small and cozy, think European. If you are used to large tables and lots of extra room, this is not the restaurant for you. We overheard two women complaining about the table size and asking why they were being served raw meat. Hello.....do you know what fondue is? Yes, you cook your own food. They prepare it, but you cook it to your liking. It really makes dinner an event. We will definitely return to this place.

We went here for Valentine's day and had the worst dining experience of our lives. First the atmosphere was so crowded and uncomfortable it was not romantic at all (its very cramped in such a small space). But I can forgive that for Valentine's day. Then the first bottle of wine we ordered and was not the right temperature for a place that prides themselves on wine and was literally undrinkable (and I'm from Napa Valley so I know at least a little about wine). In their defense, they did replace the wine (it was the only time I have ever sent back a bottle) with something else which also wasn't very good. Then came the food.... It was horrendous to say the least. To start off we got the cheese fondue appetizer (what else would you get here?) and it was the only decent part of the whole experience but they didn't give us nearly enough bread with it for two people. Next came the meat dipping fondue. It was disgusting - the meat tasted horrible and the raw meat was touching our vegetables (which looked like they were canned anyways). The sauces they gave us came from a bottle and were like cheap salad dressings that you get at your crazy aunt's house - one was ketchup-like, another was cheap BBQ, and the rest were creamy Kraft salad dressings. We could not stand the food and left almost all of it on our plates even though we had been starving (expecting a wonderful valentine's day dinner) beforehand. There was nothing wrong with the chocolate fondue desert but we were so disheartened at this point we couldn't enjoy it and just wanted to get out. Afterwards we came home and made something edible. I have never written a review online before but felt like I needed to just because of this experience - do not come here, you will be thoroughly disappointed if you know anything about good food, wine, or fondue.

I went with for Restaurant Week because of all the positive reviews and was very disappointed. I got fondue for all 3 of my courses and none were acceptible. The cheese was too hot for the appetizer, the meats were bland along with their sauces and the chocolate was lukewarm. I suggest you try Japanese shabu-shabu or Chinese hotpot if you want plenty of meats, various broths and delicious sauces for a very good deal. For cheese or chocolate, do it at home so you can dip whatever you want for an even better deal! I have heard that restaurant week menu's were risky since the kitchen is so busy but fondue is not the same as a steak with risotto. To top it off, the wine we wanted was unavailable and the suggestion was awful, but the manager did take it back.

I had to plan a bachelorette party for 11 people with very different tastes. I happened upon The Wine Cellar on CitySearch, contacted them, and found them to be incredibly accomodating. Not only did they help me arrange a pre-set menu for everyone, but they also made sure those with special dietary needs were able to enjoy the meal. It was a great restaurant with great food and great service. I highly recommend it!

My husband and I enjoyed the food however the service was a little slow. We waited to place our order. We were confused as to who our waiter/waitress were it seemed like a tag team event instead of dedicated tables. The wine recommendations were great and the food was good as well. The chicken was extremely tender.

I went to The Wine Cellar just before their summer break on a recommendation from a friend. It was a great dining experience! The wine list is absolutely amazing. I was very impressed with the artistic creations in both the food and the decor, in addition to the attentive wait staff, and the overall atmosphere of my dining experience. An all around great value! Cant wait when theyll reopen in July.

This is one of the best discovery I made in the Boston Restaurant scene. I recently just discovered this intimate romantic spot even though I probably passed by 500 times. A good friend of mine raved about it and dragged me along. I was quite impressed by the Fondue, especailly with the meat and seafood, it is marinated perfectly right before we dipped them into this aromatic broth. I want to know the recipe!!! I was surprise how tasty it was! We ended the supper with the dessert fondue which comprise of FRESH fruits with this yummy dark Chocolate fondue and also an unordinary white chocolate fondue, I don't like white chocolate, but I have to say that I was impressed by theirs, unlike any other white chocolate I have ever tasted. At the end of the dinner, they even recommended a white dessert wine which I loved! I am no wine connoisseur, but I sure know one when I drink it! This is a perfect restaurant for the girls night out or for romantic occassions. Intimate settings with great service, pefect decor and ambiance with no attitudes. They even have another authentic French menu aside from their Fondues, I will definitely be back and try everything else! Check out my other reviews at Yelp online, I am a frequent hopper in the boston scene.

They crammed is into a back corner where we had to move the table to get out. They told us wasn't possible to move when we asked. The service was bad and the wait staff spoke so loudly we cringed whenever she came over. The seafood ravioli had blue cheese in it (I am allergic), an ingredient not listed on the menu. When I went to speak to the manager he was short with me and acted as if he didn't care. The "Wine Cellar" apparently means that they only have one (that's right, ONE) bottle of each one that they have listed. So they kept reminding us whenever we ordered a bottle of wine and even tried to force us to get their recommended house (aka inferior) wines instead. They ruined our celebration and embarrassed me in my choice. I would never recommend this and would never go back.

Not your typical restaurant. Chic, comfortable and elegant welcomes all ages. Presentation and service are great especially for a relatively new restaurant.Food was delicious, wine list, interesting mix and excellent selections. Knowledgeable Manager-Owner.Great for 2 people or small parties. Felt like Manhattan without the gimmicks and babes.Great addition to the area.

The service was bad (to be nice) the raw meats they gave us for fondue were on the same plate as the sauces fo dipping the cooked food. Th raw meat would fall over into the sauce it was gross. The meats were supposed to be marinated, not. We also ordered milk chocolate dessert when it came it was dark chocolate and the manager said thats what real chocolate is. My wife and I have had fondue all over the world and this my friends is not fondue. Out of the ten table I overheard at least six complain. Dont go.

We really enjoyed our meal at the Wine Cellar. The fondue was delicious, especially the chocolate fondue...delicious. The atmosphere is sooo romantic. One of the most beautiful dinning rooms in boston-small, intimate and warm.

The service was friendly, knowledgeable and unpretentious. A truly wonderful dinning experience!

I highly recommend the chocolate peppermint fondue! I first started going to this restaurant when it opened. The owner himself is there all the time and he is very friendly and quite pleasant to chat with. The fondues are quite expensive, but delicious. Not a great place for a large group, but wonderful for an intimate date.

I have been to the Wine Cellar on many occasions and have usually had a pleasant experience. The fondue really, really is delicious. As I think Boston really needs more fondue places, the Wine Cellar is a step in the right direction. However, I find them to be quite overpriced. Unless you are willing to go all out you will feel like you are overpaying. I definitely recommend the prix fixe menu. There is one starting around 135 which is quite satisfying. Good for an anniversary of special occasion. Romantic atmosphere, however, and Thierry, the manager is quite helpful. When it gets busy, however, there never seem to be enough waitstaff, so be prepared for some slow service if you go at a peak time.

I was there on Friday night with my girlfriends before hitting the club. We had such a nice time with our fondue meal. It was so much fun cooking our our food in the oil and the cheese. We had the grand marnier chocolate fondue with fresh fruits.... Delicious! Our waiter was very nice and friendly; not to mentioned the charming manager. We will definetely come back again.

We had a wonderful experience at the Wine Cellar. The foie gras was superb and an excellent value at $9. Not to mentioned the wonderful fondues, what is better than a pot of melting cheese with your favorite bottle of wine?? The waiter was very helpful in our wine decision. They have an exceptionally wine list for such a small, but very cozy and very romantic place. There are so many entrees besides the fondues that we need to return a few times to try them all.....

I have a lovely time here with my girlfriend. The prix fixe menu is very nice especially you get 6 glasses of wines and 2 glasses of champagne. Such a great value with all the wines and food. The service couldn't be better; the waiter folded our napkins when we returned from the bathroom. The waiter was very friendly and helpful. Very romantic ambience esp. for a date. I would definetely come back again. I am not sure what the other reviewers are talking about..

The Wine Cellar was the perfect dining experience. The owner Terry was more then friendly and hospitable. The pris fixe menu was extremely fun and delicious. Plus they are a great value for all the food and wine you receive. The atmosphere was perfectly small, quaint, and secluded; not too touristy and busy like newbury. The food was superb. I don't know what the other negative reviews are talking about.

The foie gras ap was over cooked, all moisture had left, all fat as well, thats when we decided to cut our loses, told the waiter , we paided ,tipped the waiter, remember this is fondue, we cook the entrees, and started to leave, thats when it went to hell, manager comes over insisting I come in the kitchen to look at his foie gras, raising his voice , telling me I dont know what Im talking about. follows us out the restaurant screaming at me asking how we cook foie gras, etc, and gives back the tip and our bill money, {he took the tip back from the waiter, 20% on $75 we tell him to keep his money and leave with him still swearing at us. Maybe the review before me was a manager/owner at the restaurant, but I tell everyone I know never to go there.

I was surprised. I expected to see fondue only and what I've got - perfect wine list at GREAT prices!!!! Look at this "WOW" list - prices in most cases below retail. I am a frequent NY guest and I can compare only The Wine Cellar to best NY wine dining places. GREAT

Honestly this was one of the worst restaurant experiences I have had in Boston, if not ever. The service was terrible, the food was average at best, and the price was ridiculous for what was served. I am actually not a picky person and this entire experience left a lot to be desired to say the least. Dirty Glasses on tables, very poor food presentation.

We went to the Wine Cellar for my friend's birthday, and I have to say I was dissappointed overall.
I think they are aiming for high service, but our server was WAY too attentive, and it started to be a bit of a joke.
A lot of the menu items weren't available, as they had introduced a new menu, but hadn't yet started making those dishes!
The classic cheese fondue and milk chocolate fondue were really good, but we didn't love the chef's oil fondue. The bread/croutons were really chewy (kind of stale). And the salads we had as appetizers were awful - really oily and bland.
Overall, it was a fairly expensive meal for so-so food. Definitely stick to the fondue if you go there.
