I love the high ceilings, tall chairs and the whole feel of this restaurant, which encourages you to linger. Ariadne has been here for a number of years. It is one of several fine dining restaurants in Newton which make it unnecessary to drive in to Boston for a nice evening out. There is a weeknight prixe fixe menu and a neighborhood menu, as Ariadne seeks to make sure that we locals can come more often than just for a special treat. Everything I have eaten here has been good. I lean toward pasta and fish, with a bit of chicken thrown in. There is a bar area at the entrance, and my husband and I have eaten there in the past when we were without reservations, and arrived at a busy time.

I went to Ariadne for their champagne toast dinner for New Year's Eve. The restaurant has a very "cool" feel to it and the bar looked worthy to come back to and relax.
The meal was a prix fixe and had four courses: oyster rockefellar appetizer, raspberry sorbet, the entree, and then dessert. All of this was supposed to include a champagne toast at midnight. However, on this night, the champagne arrived a full half hour after midnight. It really did sour the evening. The food is good, not memorable, but good. For the price, I was hoping for a little better.
Parking is easy as Newtonville is a small town with large parking lots.
