Guess I was naive thinking that the chefs would actually be there, but still, the four of us, with three different entrees, two different apps and two different desserts found nothing to get excited about except maybe the pleasant

I organized a celebratory dinner for a large group of 16, on a Saturday night, which was wonderful. I contacted the restaurant in advance regarding ease of seating etc. for such a large group and Elaine was wonderfully helpful, suggesting

I had a great experience here from the appetizers to the entrees. the waitstaff was extremely friendly and helpful with the wine selections. The atmosphere is great, including an open air kitchen. I highly recommend the duck!

Most of the negative reviews seem to point out the poor service. I thought the service was ok, considering the restaurant was packed. And the meal was quite good. But when one eats a tasty meal, one never counts on seeing that meal again. Unfortunately, I saw it again, and very soon: classic food poisoning with a very quick onset. I don't know if it was the clams or the swordfish, but before our check even arrived I felt nauseous and had to rush to the bathroom to throw up. Threw up again in the taxi on the way home, and again and again for a few hours until there was nothing else to come up. Never going to this restaurant again.

I came here during Restaurant Week and even then they had a lot of options for their prix fixe menu. I had the steak frites along with a salad and dessert. The whole meal was done well and I really enjoyed it all. This is a great place to eat at; just remember that it's street parking.

Three of us went to this restaurant during Restaurant Week. We were incredibly disappointed, my husband and I would have left, if not for the friend who brought us, who remained enthusiastic. I am not exaggerating when I tell you that 1/2 the menu options were not available. We sat at the bar, and the bartender went through all the things they were out of, down to BUTTER! These brothers really should realize that they lost many customers that night. I had no idea it was restaurant week, and don't feel that is a satisfactory reason to be out of 1/2 the menu. Out of 5 possbile dessert choices, only two were available. The bartender told us all this in an unapologetic, almost sarcastic manner. We dropped a lot of money, left hungry, and deeply disatisfied.

This restaurant is so creative and really makes the theme work without going over the top. The two brothers that own the place have competing menus. So each menu item lists which brother created it and the idea is to compete the two against each other in your ordering (ie appetizer from one, entree from another). The bar is also a great hang out spot, although there is relatively limited seating. The location couldn't be better. I would definitely recommend a visit to Sibling Rivalry just to see what it's all about.

Sibling Rivalry is really different in that the menu actually consists of two menus created by a pair of brothers, who prepare competing appetizers and entrees using the same ingredients. It's a great idea and makes the restaurant stand out in the crowd. The food was good but not great - I had the filet and ordered it medium rare but it came out medium well. Other than that, everything was very tasty. The markup on the wine was kind of extreme and it was hard to find a reasonably priced bottle that was still decent wine. All in all, I would consider returning and giving this place another shot to impress me.

This is not a review of Sibling Rivalry, it is a critique of a reviewer.

bosrestreviewr5 posted a review claiming that their food was undercooked and that it took 90 mins to get their entrees.

Sibling Rivalry has one of the fastest, most efficient kitchens in the Boston area. Any doubts of this, go in and eat at their chef's dining bar - it looks right into the kitchen - and you will see everything from appetizers to entrees, salads, desserts made to dishes being washed and a dizzying flurry of servers.

I cannot imagine a meal taking 30-45 minutes there even in the worst of circumstances, errors or whatever. Perhaps bosrestreviewr5 should get a new watch or should start telling the truth.

Pros: Great concept, interesting & delicious meals, great wine list, good service

Cons: Servers tend to lack some finesse - they try hard, but are rough around the edges.

I was not impressed with my experience at Sibling Rivalry. My boyfriend and I made reservations here in hopes to find a new restaurant to frequent. I had heard from a co-worker that this place was a lot of fun and she really liked it. Unfortunately, I can't share in her thoughts.

When we arrived the hostess was friendly and checked us in. As we were waiting to get seated, the man who was going to be seating us walked up to us mumbling things like "are you kidding me?", and he generally just looked annoyed. He seemed as if he was trying to be nice, but we were wasting his time. Our server was nice, however I felt a little rushed, or like I was not of his normal caliber customer. I ordered what I thought would be good - the descriptions of the dishes were very descriptive (and I commend them for that). When I got my appetizer it smelled revolting and tasted even worse. And, no, I didn't order something with ingredients I had never had or disliked.

The rest of the food was okay. Nothing to call home about. The general demeanor of the restaurant as the night went on became more and more apparent to me. I felt like I was among a snobby-too-good-for-anyone staff and I didn't feel like I fit in at all. When we were getting ready to leave, my boyfriend left a tip for what he thought was sufficient for the service we received. It was between 10 and 15%, so its not like we left nothing. As we were exiting the restaurant, not only did we see the waiter immediately pick up and open our check, but we heard him sneer and make some remark regarding the amount of the tip we gave him. If you are going to do that, at least keep it private so your guests do not see or hear you.

I do not recommend going here, for the food or the experience. If you can handle the snobby attitudes of the staff and the pretentiousness of the place as a whole, by all means do go - they do offer an interesting menu unlike many other restaurants.

Pros: Interesting atypical menu

Cons: Average food for an above average price. Snobby staff/atmosphere.

This restaurant was the worst restaurant that I have ever eaten at in Boston. My food was completely undercooked and it took over 90 minutes for them to bring us our entrees. Two thumbs down and a 0 out of 5 rating for this restaurant.

From the moment we were greeted to the last dessert spoonful, a delightful experience. We went on a Monday (offer choice of 3 course fixed price menus for $35) and avoided the crowds. Comp starter mango avocado mousse was dazzling, appetizers devine, entrees outrageously delicious. Soft shell crab a triumph, seafood stew and short ribs very strong. We made sure to leave room for dessert and were not dissappointed. Service very solid. Took my son (the chef) for his birthday, and he can be tough to take to a restaurant. He was blown away. We'll be back.

I have never been to a restaurant that was so slow in a negative way. There are the restaurants that take the appropriate time to let you linger and converse, but Sibling Rivalry forgets about you and when they are with you they seem annoyed. We were a party of six and no table should be treated with the lack of respect that they showed us. It took more than 20 minutes just to get the two extra drinks that we ordered after half the table already had drinks. The food was fine but not plentiful. I also found the gimmick that focuses on an ingredient competition between the brothers to get in the way of high quality cuisine.

I tried this place after reading a review in the metro(I believe) and I was pleasantly surprised. The food was very different, I had pumpkin ravioli and chickpea friend and my boyfriend ate salmon with some type of ravioli app which was really great! The best thing about the place though was the bread basket, comprised of 3 different types of bread all very good especially the Irish soda bread which melted in your mouth....atleast I think it was Irish soda bread, but whatever it was it was fabulous! The ambience was really wonderful and romantic with the low lighting and I liked the fact that I could view the open kitchen from my seat. Although we did not drink at the bar, the bar looked very nice as well. The staff was friendly, but not overly attentive and actually brought us someone else's drinks, but I understand mistakes are made and was not put off by this....the only think I did not like was that despite arrive for a very early dinner (so the place was empty) we were given a table next to the door up front which had a terribly cold draft coming in through the all glassed front wall which was exacerbated by the draft from the door whenever it opened. This made my boyfriend and I both a bit uncomfortable. Overall though the food was really great and I liked the romantic yet modern intereior. Be prepared to spend some money though, a dinner with no dessert, no alcohol and one appetizer cost $90, but I would eat here again as the food, especially the chick pea friend were worth it!

Cons: A little chilly at the front of the restaurant

enjoyable dining experience. ask for tables closest t o open kitchen. Tasty appetizers especially the tuna tartar dish. Four of us all ordered duck- all enjoyed. Service was very good. Other reviewers indicate service was sloppy but that was not our experience at all. We had 6:00 reservations on Saturday night, told wait staff we were attending 8:00 performance next door, and completed meal and dessert in plenty of time.

Cons: expect to pay for drinks, and three courses 65.00 per person

If you are not wearing very expensive jeans and driving up to the valet parking in an SUV, get ready for some eye rolling from staff. The food was interesting, but the staff snobby, the decor a bit chilly, and the prices extreme (check out the a la carte menu, and be prepared to really PAY for those mashed potatoes and string beans). With all the fantastic options this city has, skip this place!

Nice atmosphere but HORRIBLE service. I felt like I spent most of my Fiance's birthday dinner turning around to see where our waitress or waiter went. Not really sure why we had two servers, it only caused more confusion. I had a fork dropped down behind my back and the waiter was completely unaware. I would think that a party of eight would be given some good attention, especially with the amount of food and drinks we ordered. We spent around $600 there and I will never go back. Restaurant go'ers beware - I would NEVER recommend.

9 of us native New Yorkers ate brunch here on sun 10-21-07, we were in Boston for a wedding. The food her was incredible, very reasonable, drinks, everyone all around enjoyed, out of all the places we at for the 4 days we stayed, this is the one that's most memorable. spotless, so clean, open kitchen, great service, great food, we wish we had one in NYC!

For starters, we were seated nearly an hour after our reservation -- and there was only two of us. The hostess seemed genuinely annoyed when I checked in HALF AN HOUR after we were supposed to be seated and then again 45 minutes later. When we were seated our waiter was very pleasant, although of course there was no "sorry you waited" or anything.
So, we order, and wait, and wait...and then realize the couple next to us who was seated long after we were has been eating...something that looks AWFULLY LIKE our dinner. Well, it was our dinner! The waiter realized it, apologized and promised to speed our dinner along. It came out maybe 20 minutes later...and then instead of the scallop entree I'd ordered (to the tune of $28 or something), they brought me a scallop entree. I swear the waitress who brought it knew ahead of time she was trying to stick me with the wrong thing -- when I immediately questioned her she said "oh you're right" and took it away.
After some haggling with the waiter, if you can believe that, he brought glasses of champagne to us and the neighboring table who'd received our dinner initially. That was the only "free" item we received after that mess. We had a fun time chuckling over it with our new pals but we way overpaid for a dinner that was an organizational disaster from beginning to end.
The food, for all that, was good. But prepare to be annoyed.

We made an 8:30 reservation a week in advance and when we arrived at the restaurant tonight, they told us that our table wasn't quite ready, so we should go into the lounge and wait for them to come get us. When we went to the lounge, it was packed with others waiting for their tables as well so there was no room to even stand. Half an hour later, we followed up with the hostess and again she repeated, "we'll come get you when your table is ready." We of course asked how much longer she thought it would be, and instead of telling us anything, or apologizing for our already extended wait, she just said they would find us in the lounge. Finally (40 minutes later), they did offer to buy us a round of drinks while we waited, but we decided to wait for our meal for our drinks. Another half hour later, our table was finally ready. For the restaurant to not have had any idea at all that they were running over an hour late was completely unacceptable. If they had told us up front that they were running so late, we might have chosen to do something different, or maybe we would have ordered an appetizer and drinks at the bar. They kept giving us the illusion that it would only be another 5 to 10 minutes longer.
After finally sitting down and ordering, the food overall was just ok. Our appetizers of tuna tartar and the bufala mozzarella were exceptional, but everything else was just average. We ordered for our main course: the flat iron steak, the lamb, the crispy duck (which had to be sent back because it was so bad), and the chicken entree. We ordered 3 desserts: banana bread pudding (which was luke warm), vanilla angel food cake, and the triple chocolate fondue.
Food review: Presentation was outstanding (the food really looked appetizing!). Unfortunately the taste of the food did not quite match the esthetics.
Needless to say, we will not be returning to Sibling Rivalry especially with all the other outstanding restaurant options in the area.

Our group of four had made a reservation for 8:30 on a Friday night but weren't seated until 9:15. We were a bit annoyed but at least had a couple of seats at the bar. Once seated our servers were courteous and attentive. The food was excellent. I got the Pan-Seared Veal Hanger Steak and it was delicious. Even got a side order garlic mashed potatoes. There's definitely enough food. Despite the delayed seating, the waiters were great and the food yummy. I would definitely go back.

I've tried to find better food in Boston for the money and I just can't seem to do it. Todd English's Olives can come close, but can't match the diversity of flavors and outstanding quality at Sibling Rivalry. Been there over 5 times and never have I had a bad experience. The Setting: Modern and simple, not the high point of the restaurant, but not the focus either. The room is upscale without being stuffy. The Service: Strong service, never pushy, courteous, and knowledgeable. The Food: Now here's the highlight, great flavors, ingredients, and diversity. I like the mix of small plates and large plates. Two small plates are reasonable priced, enough food for a meal, and give a mixture of styles from Asian, French, to Latin. And try the gnocchi side dish! Overall: Outstanding and recommended!

Pros: Great quality, diversity of flavors, small and large plates

Cons: Decor is simple and not exciting

I absolutely love this restaurant, I live in the south end and have went in here several times. I is my fave restaurant in the city. It is always exceptional and the service is great. The food is over the top, I recently had the sweetbread raviolis, delicious and the spicy tuna tartare is the best!!! I usually always get the duck, which can melt in your mouth.
I love sitting at the chef bar, it can be very entertaining watching them cook. The wine and cocktails are great, the Kiwi Martini is so good. The bar is also fun after dinner, they had some great music later in the evening, it was a very good time. I will be back sometime soon.

A party of 10 was obviously too much to handle for this snooty waitstaff. Our group had to wait over an hour to be seated when the reservation had been booked well in advance. They didn't apologize once and when we told them we were going to be late for a post-dinner event, they balked, "Well we didn't know you had plans after dinner". Well ok, I guess we didn't know the true meaning of a reservation. When we were finally seated in a "private room", more like just a back room, the food was unmemorable and the service was non-existent. For my friend's birthday cake, they were nice enough to give her 5 stale cookies and a mug . I have never had such a bad dining experience, especially in the much beloved South End. Best group dining?? No way! Worst! Sibling Rivalry needs to get their overrated, overpriced act together!

I went to dinner here a few months ago as a surprise from my boyfriend. He knew that I had been wanting to try out this unique dining concept. I love the dueling menu idea and the variety of food that I get to choose from even more. We shared the duxbury mussels to start and I was expecting a few mussels, but it was a full size appetizer portion and if I had ordered them by myself I would've definitely been more than half full. I then ordered the pumpkin raviolis and there were only 4 of them, but with the butter sauce, I wouldn't have been able to eat any more than that due to the richness. It was delicious however. I also had the lamb brik, which is ground lamb wrapped in a pastry/dough. I'm obviously simplifying the ingredients, but it was good and very rich as well. My boyfriend got the rib eye and it was huge! We're used to eating at fine dining establishments like Spire or Top of the Hub, where meat portions are on the small side. The price of his rib eye was the same as other places, but the portion size was probably 3 times bigger. We also ordered the parmesan zucchini strings because we thought we would need to supplement our dishes in order to be full, but I was so stuffed, I didn't even finish my lamb brik. I was so disappointed that I did not get to try the desserts. They looked so good. Food aside, the service was good and our waitress was attentive. I'm actually going back to eat dinner there tonight and I'm determined to have dessert this time!

Sibling Rivalry is one of the best resturants in Boston. Their two chefs create amazing food for brunch, lunch and dinner. Both food and service is to excellence. The decor is modern and fun. Everytime I have been to Sibling Rivalry I have enjoyed their food, wine and service, and will return soon.

I've been here twice in the past two months, both for birthday dinners. the food was great but the best part was the service. I am really big on customer service, and the waiters are extremely friendly and helpful. they do more than just candles in your dessert for birthdays. They go out of their way to print "happy birthday chris" on the menus, and also on the dessert plate. Before you leave, they also give you a mug with cookies and a copy of the personalized birthday menu. -- everything they do makes you feel really welcomed.

My friends and I tried Sibling for the very first time last week and from the host to service to the wine and dinner and the dessert, our entire dining experience was amazing! We had pretty much everything, but without a doubt, the dessert blew our minds. The Have your cake and eat it too was adorable and ingenius, the passionfruit cheesecake was the most imaginative presentation, and then the seven layer mocha cake was perfect -- decadent, and yet the perfect protion for such decadance! i have to say though as well, the grand manier creme brulee was beyond original -- an edible after-dinner apertif! kudos to the kinkead brothers for finding their pastry chef gem jessica goryl!

The food was too die for not to mention the blood orange martini is a must have and the service was outstanding!!! The trendy decor and great atmosphere is the perfect spot for dinner and a few drinks with friends. I must say you need to try the pumpkin ravioli and the tuna appetizers - dont forget to leave room for dessert ..... you will be glad you did.

Sibling Rivalry provided a great dining experience ........ impressive food, service and decor . The restaurant has a chic and modern but stately decor. The menu is nicely varied, with something for everyone, and I ordered the swordfish, it was cooked to perfection I also ordered the pumpkin ravioli and the ravioli was exquisite just enough because it is an appetizer not a meal like someone else wrote. The waitstaff was very attentive and provided great, nondisruptive service. I must suggest the blood orange martini and that you definitely save room for dessert .
I look forward to going back again!

I had been hearing a buzz about Sibling Rivalry for several months.... all good, so my fiance and I decided to try it out we live about 30 min outside of Boston and let me tell you it was worth the drive!! We made reservations and were seated right away the waitress was great very attentive. The martinis were fantastic and they had an exquisite wine menu, we started off with a few appetizers that were to die for I must suggest the pumkin ravioli , beet salad and tuna then dinner topped that the the swordfish melted in my mouth. The food came out timed perfectly!! I was told by my
server they make some changes seasonally to keep it exciting!

I went to try this restaurant out before going to the theatre in the early afternoon. I was surprised at the little amount of food that I got for the price. I ordered Pumpkin Ravioli as an entree. The dish came with 3 raviolis on it. I walked away from the restaurant hungry and $21 out of pocket. I think it's high on pretence and low on value---there are far better places to visit and spend your money in Boston.

Two friends of mine, myself and my husband had dinner last night at Sibling Rivalry and the experience simply couldn't have been better! The food was terrific, and the concept of the two chefs was a blast! Our server, Fred was attentive but not annoying, made some great suggestins for food and wine, and the atmosphere of the place was perfect. The only flaw in the evening was the extremely rude woman behind us who didn't even apologize when she shattered two wine glasses with her coat when she got up to leave!

Where do I start the drinks were out of this world, the service was top notch and I loved the atmosphere!! We started with a few app`s and they were so exquisite, the portion size of our dinners were perfect and presented so well not too mention how great the food tasted. We finished with a few desserts I must recommend the desserts we ordered a few for the table and they were the best I have ever had!

Nice attempt at a unique concept, my wife and I gave it two chances and we would not go back there again. It has a nice location and a good ambience but the food does not live up to the expectations. Drinks were nice but overpriced, Tuna was overcooked, service was average. I would not dine there again.

We went to Sibling Rivalry tonight and had 3 thoughts: 1. Poor service: Our waitress was at our table too much. She would ask the a question after we just answered it one minute prior. We received our dinner before our cocktails. (Without explanation just excuses and no apology.) She was awkward, unknowledgable and just down-right annoying. 2. Cool name, bad decor: The name, concept and logo are great- but, the decor was terrible and "corporate modern" cheapo looking. The staff was dressed goofy and not cool at all. It is too bad they didn't embrace the urban setting and take the conept to the next level. 3. The food was tasty: The concept of the 2 brothers is great and the portions were decent sized but it was really expensive. We left paying close to $100.00 for 2 entrees and only 2 cocktails. (Including a tip.)

I had heard a lot of great things about Sibling Rivalry, and the experience lived up to the hype. It is a fun place, not too pretentious and not stuffy at all. The location is great. Valet parking. The bar attracts stylish people. I love the Kirkland martini. The dining room has a great view of the kitchen. The menu is so diverse, although I did not like my dinner combination of salmon and Mexican flavors of black beans and spicy chile rellano. The service was wonderful. It's just a fun place to be.

My friends took me here for a birthday celebration and we could not have been more impressed! Our waitress was extremely knowledgeable and didn't mind answering all of our questions in detail. Between the three of us, we had the halibut, lamb, and cod dishes and there was hardly anything left on our plates! We shared a sinfully yummy chocolate dessert and would definitely go back there for another special occasion. I can't wait to take my boyfriend there for a romantic night out.

Agree with others that menu was difficult to figure out, would have been better if they would have a set menu showcasing both brothers in direct comparison. Decor was trendy and fun, but tables were almost overlapping with the next. Food was overall good, maybe a bit on the salty side. The best description of Lobster terrine app was "weird". The main courses were tasty but not worth the exorbitant prices. All of this would have been forgiveable were it not for the inattentive service. We had to ask twice for our water to be refilled and twice for bread. Service was disorganized and we did not get the professional service that should come with a restaurant of this reputation. Unfortunately we still feel obligated to fork out a lot of tip. Overall the experience was lacking.

This restaurant is not all that it is cracked up to be. We had reservations and were seated promptly but we waited about 15 min for the menu, which was difficult to read. The appetizers were tasty, but the entrees needed some help. The waiter was slow and not very attentive to our needs. We went there for a Birthday celebration and it was nothing close to a celebration. When the waiter came with the dessert he said that he could not find any candles but happy birthday anyways, I figure he just forgot from the preious service he had given us. I have dined at much better places than this in Boston - it was a disappointment.

The evening was off to a lousy start with an incident with the valet. The nights specials seemed to be read as we were seated, and pressure for an order was intense.
Our food arrived promptly, which was nice, but the wine we had ordered was nowhere to be found. Every person we asked couldnt seem to help us and our server had vanished when we needed him most. When we asked where our wine was he said we never ordered it, which was insulting. The service was surprisingly bad, especially for the price of the food, which was very good. Good food isnt everything and the service/experience left a bad taste. After hearing some good reviews we thought we would give it a try. In this case curiosity definitely did kill the cat. We wont be coming back any time soon, and wouldnt recommend it to friends.

Vegetarians do not get to choose a chef, or an entree from the menu. My meal consisted of a plate full of vegetables. They were perfectly cooked and delicious - but come on! Why can't there be one vegetarian option from each chef. Any other hip restaurant in Boston would have a vegetarian option.
Excellent service. Great decor. Amazing menu. No vegetarian food.

Everything was amazing, from the Menage a Trois blanc and perfectly paired little salt cod tartlet bites - through my salmon entree which was moist perfection paired with creamy mushrooms, gorgeous herbs and wraped in a crispy filo wrap, to the heavenly desserts. We sampled the Bananas Napolean (couldn't get enough), the insane layered lime pie dessert - each new layer burst in the mouth in a whole new experience, and the apple tart. Each just out of this world.

Acoustics were amazing. Seats comfortable. Servers knowledgable, perfectly courteous, prompt & attentive. Menu just fun! Bravo. Don't want them to change a thing. Just wish I still lived a block away.... though I suppose I'd be broke.

Sunday lunch, place almost empty, I got offered the table all the way in the back corner?!?!?, nobody sat at any other table. The food comes, so the waitress said, as it "comes on the window", are we at a diner or a drive through? As the food arrived I had to make space on the table, which I don't mind in acasual place, but not where the service pretends to be professional. They incourage sharing for lunch, which is a great idea, but what about some serving utensils, and speaking of portion control!, I am willing to pay more, but give me a little more, if I have to share it! At least the flavours where all alomost there and interesting. The tune tartare a bit greasier than expected, poached egg on duck confit definately a must!

A great new addition to our city! Yes the menu is very different and can be confusing, but it is well explained by the server when they greet you. The decor is wonderful, rather there are 3 separate dining areas, with totally different feels to them. An open kitchen ampitheater dining room, lounge, and upscale dining area, for more formal dining. The food is superb, perhaps they could go a little easy on the salt, but nevertheless, unbelievably tasty. I vote for chef david, overall, but chef bob is simply no slouch either. Short ribs are divine, as well as the scallops and duck !

We ate here for Thanksgiving and unfortunately, there was no brother v brother type menu set-up. No problem, we went for the 4 course holiday menu. The space is striking. The service is restrained (bordering on the slow side). Salt wasn't a problem, though they ran out of dessert items. My pumpkin bread pudding was heavy on the chocolate chips and lacked pumpkin. Small quibble considering the great entrees.
