the woman made sure not to make the experience worth the money. she was disinterested, unprofessional (hurt me with the tools without apologizing), the water was too hot so was the towel, the seats were uncomfortable and the job only satisfactory. they may have other staff that know what they are doing but I would not go risk it if I were you...

I thought I would try the hair salon since it is close to my apartment. The service was terrible!!! I am black and wanted to get a relaxer. I was told that I would have to have a consultation before I could get an appointment. Well, I scheduled a consultation and met with Nicole (Nikki) Ruby who was supposedly a senior stylist. Nikki told me to email her the information regarding where I had gotten a relaxer before so she could check with my stylist to make sure Pyara had the right relaxer for my hair and could perform the service. Well a week went by and I never heard from Nikki. After several emails to Nikki she never got back to me and so I never went there for a relaxer. I should have known that this was going to happen because during the consultation she seemed very unsure of herself and I doubted her ability to do my hair. However, her behavior was very unprofessional. I think it is ridiculous that this salon cannot do African-American hair.

If you want to go somewhere where the providers are booked so solid they have no time to listen to you, and will charge you an arm and a leg and try to push their products on you... you've found the perfect salon!

They told me to leave in one location because I was 10 minutes late, then I was "told" the next service was complimentary, but when I got there I had to convince them to give it to me that way, they said it wasn't in the system. The lady who was supposed to do my hair didn't want to and was angry the whole time and embarrassed me! I was told owner would call me the next day but she never called, that was months ago.....

I went to this salon and got a hand and foot relieving treatment. The whole thing cost $105 and it was one of the worst mani/pedis I have ever gotten. There were bubbles in the polish, my nails were not fully painted (she left spots on the sides and bottoms), and she hardly trimmed my cuticles. Also, don't expect a massage. I definitely prefer my $35 mani/pedi at another place.

Awesum service, talented service providers. I went in for a spa day and it was worth every penny. To all the people who just complains on here r so negative and obnoxious. I'm glad I didn't listen to it. Pyara definatly sets a different vibe and mood then any other salons I went to. Thankyou so much guys

Well if you love your hair and want your peace of mind just DO NOT go there. I have so many bad expeinces with the salon from their Top stylist to the principal ones. Highly UNprofessional and very rude not to forget the high price.

I went here for a manicure just to try something other than Sasha (my favorite). It was OK, but there was nothing special about it. Well, actually it was a nicer environment than Sasha, but the "nail technician" was not as skilled.

For my first haircut in over six months after a seriously traumatic event at my previous hairstylists, I decided it was time for a change. I came in around 2pm on a Thursday, and though the staff were busy, it wasn't crowded and they were able to pay good attention to each of their customers. I had my hair styled by Megan, with an assistant whose name I can't remember (but whose help I truly appreciated). They were very friendly and conversational, even more so than I was expecting. Beginning with a massage, shampoo, and conditioning, my treatment was smooth-sailing, and I absolutely loved the smell of their products. My cut was also practical and flattering, and it seemed like Megan knew exactly what I wanted without overdoing it. For example, every time I get my bangs cut, the stylist always either leaves them too long or cuts them too short, thus making my long forehead seem completely endless. However, Megan cut them just right. :)

Altogether, I couldn't be happier with my stay, and would readily recommend Pyara to anyone looking for a relaxing, friendly atmosphere with attentive staff and spectacular service.

I go to Pyara for waxing (generally a full leg and bikini), and of several places I've tried in Cambridge this is by far the best. My favorite person to see is Jessica; not only does she make ripping the hair off my body into a soothing experience (how does she DO it???), but also she always remembers who I am and what we talked about during my previous appointment. In addition to the lovely, talented staff, I enjoy Pyara for the calm, luxurious atmosphere and of course the Aveda products. Everything from the tea when I arrive to the wonderful-smelling massage oil at the end add up to a serenity you just don't associate with what can be a painful, stressful treatment. At Pyara, I leave feeling blissed out and pampered.

I am one of those people guilty of "stylist cheating" as I couldn't find one that I liked. After going for a facial in February (gift from my bf) and the overall positive experience, I was committed to trying their salon. Through an online review, I found out about Sonja and am not sure where to begin speaking her praises. Personable, down-to-earth and friendly, Sonja is foremost an expert stylist and top professional. In addition to a FANTASTIC haircut that complemented my face and personality, she is a wonderful colorist. I am so happy that I found a stylist that I can "grow" with and trust. Pyara is fortunate to have such a person on its team.

One word of "caution." I am happy to spend money on quality products and gave/am giving the Aveda line a try. I purchased nearly (except one because they were out of it) all the products that were recommended to me after my facial and have had some negative reactions to it (my forehead and cheeks got all spotty and red). Nonetheless, after my haircut yesterday, I purchased some of the hair products to give it a try. Hopefully, I'll be luckier with them. Regardless, I've already booked my next hair appointment (I don't think I've ever booked my next appointment in advance with any stylist) and am looking forward to it!

I used to work at a Spa, so sometimes I forget I don't need to think so much when I'm getting treatments. I booked a massage, facial and brow wax for one day. The choosing of the essential oils was wonderful a wonderful touch (some places don't give you an option), yet a little too ritual for my taste. Christopher B gave an excellent massage. It was therapeutic and relaxing at the same time, which was very much needed. He also did some things that I don't think had been done to me before. The facial with Kristen was also wonderful. The products she used and recommended were excellent options and it is very clear she knows skin. Some critiques: I think I should have been given a health history form to fill out when I got there. Instead I had to wait until Christopher came to get me. No one told me about the dressing room, so I had to change back into my clothes between treatments and carry my stuff. I think again that this is something that most likely should have been done by the front desk staff especially when they saw I had multiple treatments lined up. I broke out from the wax, which happened to me once before after a $5.00 wax, but never in a reputable location. I also never had a facial and wax done together before and I'm not sure if that might have added to it. I know my credit info is on file, but I felt like I could have walked out without paying for my treatments. Overall- Great treatments, but the front staff needs additional training and work.

I woke up this morning (my first day off in 10 days) feeling totally wiped out. I am constantly on my feet, so I often wake up feeling sore. I just knew that I needed a massage asap. Now, because I am "in the business," I'm a little picky with salons and spas. There is nothing worse than walking out after spending a couple hundred treating yourself and regretting it. I did a little research on yelp and city search and had decided on Pyara....mostly because it was close and was an Aveda salon. What a wonderful choice. The salon was very modern earthy, but very welcoming. My masseuse, Jen greeted me and asked me to pick out an Aveda scent and was very helpful. I often find myself holding my breath or maybe taking shorter breaths when the massage gets a little intense, but Jen was calmly breathing at a slow pace which reminded me to focus on actually breathing and relax a little. She told me that it can get a little intense when getting out the knots..etc. but should never hurt....because that's not what were here for. I felt like it was her mission to get me relaxed and feel rejuvenated.. which she did very well. After the hour was over, I stepped into their private shower with AMAZING water pressure. They had every Aveda shampoo and treatment you could think of....I felt like I was on cloud 9 when I got out. They have a great dressing room with lotions and products, brushes and a blowdryer, and even some sample makeup. Very serene and relaxing. Afterwards, I was browsing through the products and the man helping me was wonderful. Made great suggestions and not a hint of pushiness to get a sale. I re-booked with Jen in 6 weeks and cannot wait to go back. Great area- right in Harvard Square, easy to park, highly recommend Pyara and take it from a spa junkie *try Jen out too!!!*

I got my makeup done at Pyara last week by Christian. He was incredibly talented, unbelievably sweet, and the whole experience was relaxing and fun. He did an awesome job and people were commenting on how great my eyes looked all evening. I HIGHLY recommend him!

I have spent the last year trying to find the salon and stylist that I was consistently happy with and I found them. I highly recommend Taylor as a stylist. She is a real pro but is also kind and makes you feel comfortable in her chair. I have had great cut and color experiences with her, and she is careful to make sure she understands what you want and gives it to you. They are generally on time with their appointments and the staff is usually very personable. You will need to make an appointment far in advance because they are ALWAYS booked up. Especially if you want to see Taylor, she seems to be in high demand. I also recommend booking your next appointment while you there paying for your last. So bring your calendar or appointment book with you, that's how hard it can be to get an appointment. I kid you not.

A friend recommended them a year ago, and I've been going here ever since. I've had haircuts with a few people, and all have been extremely good, especially for my hair type (really fine). They recommend Aveda products, but no excessive pressure to purchase them.

I've always enjoyed my experience at Pyara. Anna is a great stylist and very easy to work with. She even took time to show me different ways to get my hair out of my face (stylishly) as it was growing out.

I did have a bad reaction to an eyebrow wax once, but the owner contacted me personally and immediately refunded my money. And it wasn't even their fault -- no one knew I was allergic to the waxing stuff.

Everyone's been very friendly and warm whenever I've gone - and I'll keep going back.

I went to this salon three times to find out if I would really like it. The staff is surface friendly but not really all that interested in you. I felt not even like a number at this salon but more like a DOLLAR SIGN. My last appointment cost me $250. My knees just about buckled on that amount. I had my hair foiled and cut. Actually my hair was razor cut by Taylor. I hear this is her specialty but it's not great for ALL hair types and my hair in particular. I normally have a nice full head of hair but with the excess razoring my hair now lays like limp, thin, no body hair. Also there was a slight problem with the color in that I had one area where it was excessively blond, I was told I would have to pay to have another color foiled into that area. At $250 I think I could have gotten much friendlier service and felt great about the salon and myself. I WILL NOT GO back! Unless you like to throw lots of money at people who aren't all that into you I'd go elsewhere.

I had my hair straightened and cut by Nikki and her assistant Danielle. It was an enjoyable experience from start to finish and my hair came out looking great. I've had the Japanese straightening done in the past and the treatment they do here by Rusk is less harsh, but still effective and much cheaper. In total it set me back about $240 but it was worth it.

Besides the slightly indifferent counter girls, the 2 stylists I went to (one for the original cut, the other to attempt to 'fix' the original cut) were friendly and nice. I have curly hair, needed a simple trim, was completely explicit in what I wanted, with the stylist even repeating it back to me... etc... And walked out with 2 different hair cuts on either side of my head, CRAZY layers, and the worst styling job I have ever had given to me by someone who is "trained in cutting and styling curly hair". I can deal with the styling job, but the cut? The long layers weren't even the same. The sad part about it is because of the way she cut it in order to fix it the 2nd stylist would have had to chop about 8 inches off my hair, taking it all the way up to the bottom of my ears. I was given no discount, no real apology, and asked how much I wanted to tip. In short, I won't go there again and I recommend that those with curly hair not go there either.

oh and in case you're wondering, I did tip the 2nd stylist just cuz it's the polite thing to do. :)

Once I started coming to Pyara two years ago I haven't tried another salon/spa for waxing, facials or haircuts. It's become my one stop for all because the quality of their service ... my haircuts have come out nicely, and when I get my eyebrows waxed the outcome is always nice, and the technicians are really friendly.

It's hard to believe this salon is in Harvard Sq. Look and feels like trendy NY Madison Ave retreat (without the pretension). Love coming here any chance I get. Sammy is a miracle when it comes to pedicures. Aveda products? Only product I'll use and worth every penny. Only thing they could do to up the experience is serve a glass a wine.

Today, I went to get my 60 mins body massage at Pyara Spa and Salon. It was a gift from my best friend and I must thank her so much. My therapist was Cecilia, she was nice and charming, her massage was fantastic! I think I will get my boyfriend a gift certificate for a 60 mins body massage by Cecilia. I am sure other therapists are as wonderful as Cecilia. But, I was VERY satisfied by her!! It was worth getting out of the house in a rainy windy day.

When it comes to spas/salons, I must say that I have been to them all. I was always looking for the right color blonde and the feeling of relaxation when I entered into a spa. I wanted to be treated like a princess and be happy with the end result.

When I discovered Pyara, not only did I receive amazing color, but I also felt that as soon as I walked in the front door, from the amazing customer service, personal attention of the assistants and the actual service itself, I was completely pampered and always felt like I was the only one in the spa. This feeling happens each and every time I go in there.

I highly recommend Taylor. She is an amazing colorist/hairstylist. She cares so much about her clients and really does an amazing job in achieving what they are looking for. Her assistant, Crystal, is just as wonderful. Taylor takes the time (with every cleint) to show Crystal the techniques and guide her through the steps if needed. It is very nice to watch their interaction.

I really can't say enough nice things about Pyara. The atmosphere is warm, the front desk and makeup is always willing to accommodate the client, the assistants are attentive to the individual with massages, drinks, etc., and the colorists/hairstylists receive a 10 in my book. An amazing job all around!

I definitely feel like a PRINCESS at Pyara Spa and Salon. You should really take the time to check it out. Once you do, you will not go anywhere else. Enjoy your experience!!

Pros: Great staff, warm atmosphere and excellent customer service

I'm not a spa or salon connoisseur by any means, and one of the best things about my experience at Pyara was that I didn't feel I needed to be one. My hair stylist was friendly, helpful, and genuinely listened to my input on my hair - something that some "top-notch" salons fail to do. I love the cut, and I loved the service! The woman who did my complimentary "makeup touch-up" (which for me was a "makeup application" as i don't usually wear makeup) did an excellent job - high praise from someone who usually dislikes makeup. Above all, everyone was friendly and warm... such a soothing experience after stepping in from the cold.

The best color around, hands down! I return time and again to Pyara Aveda not only because their colorists have perfected the sun-kissed blond of summer that I miss during these dark days, but also because of the friendly atmosphere. I feel like I'm in the lap of luxury when whisked away to the private rooms for spa services, which have helped to restore the dewy skin I thought I had lost a decade ago! There's no magic, just top-notch products, selected for my skin type and lifestyle, with professional guidance on their best use. The professionalism, superior products, and friendly staff make Pyara a real find!

The stylists in this lovely salon are quite talented in both cut and color. Over the course of a year, I was primarily pleased with my services, happy to pay the $2-300 price tag per visit.

On my final visit to Pyara, unfortunately bad color and customer service caused me to terminate my business. I was very specific that I was looking for true, golden blonde highlights and wanted to fade out as much of the reddish tint to my hair as possible. I walked out with an all over reddish-brown color and no highlights visible. Giving my stylist the benefit of the doubt, I gave my hair 48 hours to adjust with no improvement.

When I called to ask to have my services re-done, it did not go well. The receptionist scheduled me for Saturday, which the next day I realized I was unable to keep. When I called to ask to be moved to the following weekend, the same person told me that though I had been scheduled for a Saturday it was a mistake, they were no longer re-doing services on weekends. He went onto tell me that it appeared he was the one who had re-scheduled me , but that just wasn't possible as he would never make such a mistake. Furthermore, I would need to accomodate my stylist's schedule (this meant accepting one of only a few weekday, midday appointments given that she booked so far in advance) within 10 days of the date of my original service. As I was unable to re-schedule with these restrictions, I expected to be offered a refund or gift certifcate to compensate. No such offer was made.

After being a regular customer for over a year, spending well over $2000 in that time, I expected reasonable accomodations to help rectify this situation. After being unwilling to be flexible or to try to accomodate my schedule + no offer of compensation, I was forced to have my color re-done elsewhere. I have since become a client of that salon. If you are looking for top notch customer service and appreciation of repeat customers, this is not the salon for you.

Pros: Great atmosphere and services, Overall stylists are skilled and very personable

I have always loved Pyara and had fantastic massages by everyone that i have seen. I was so disappointed by the service I received about two weeks ago when I went to buy a gift certificate for $250.00. I was treated like I was asking for special service because I wanted the GIFT certificate in my friends name not mine. I understand that they want to set up customer accounts, therefore it may have been easier to use it under my name, however it was a GIFT. Also, what the thick 30's something man didn't seem to pick up on is that, yes I have been there many times, but also that my friend had not, and I was referring her and paying for an expensive all day treatment for her.

I was so disgusted with his attitude that there is no way that I would ever go there again. This person seemed to be in a managerial role, and there is too much competition in boston and cambridge to tolerate that treatment.

I have to say how unhappy I am with the front desk staff at Pyara Aveda salon. I've dealt with this on more than one occassion at this salon. They have attitude and I don't mean that in a good sense. You can have attitude and still be kind and give excellent customer service. You'll find that on New bury Street. They obviously don't care about the business. If it wasn't for the fact that I love Aveda products and that I don't want to hike to Boston to buy my products, I would not support this salon. I still may not. I found the front desk staff to be unfriendly, acting as if they were doing the me a favor and unwelcoming. I've been to many Aveda salons nationwide and I've never been treated in this way. Step it up and find a kind, welcoming attitude! Work on your customer service technique. You are the first face we see when we come in. On a good note, I did have an excellent brow wax and shape. Thankfully reception wasn't working on my eyebrows.

I've recently relocated to Cambridge, and found this salon on this website. I'm happy to say that I was not at all disappointed. The salon is great. (I had a manicure and pedicure.) The service was very professional and friendly. They run on-time (always a pleasure) and are very welcoming. Another plus for me was their flexibility in scheduling my appointment, which I made on the same day. The salon isn't loud, like some are, which makes a much more relaxing experience, in my opinion. It's also very clean. Another bonus is that if you're having your hair colored, there's a big round table in the back of the salon with magazines and tea/coffee where you can sit while you're waiting for your process to finish. Much more welcoming than a line of chairs against the wall. Can't wait to go back!

Pros: Near public transit, good ambience, low-pressure, really nice staff.

Cons: I don't drive in Cambridge, but on-street parking might be difficult at peak times since the salon is in Harvard Square. Plenty of cabs/public transit nearby, though.

If you have straight hair, ask for Taylor!! I have very straight hair and in the past when I went to Pyara, I wasn't that thrilled with my haircuts - just uninspired, boring, blunt cuts with no movement or body. But this time, I LOVE my new haircut thanks to Taylor!! I've been getting lots of compliments which never happens with my hair 'cause it's usually so boring. In 29 years of getting haircuts, I've never actually been satisfied with the end result. But somehow, magically, Taylor knew exactly what I wanted from my scant description and did a fantastic job. I have all the layers I wanted and lots of body (a feat I thought was impossible) and a cute shape even though I'm very low maintenance and don't do anything except blowdry my hair.

The price was $55 which is quite good and I also highly recommend the Light Elements Detailing Mist-Wax which has worked wonders on my fine straight hair to give it body, volume and texture.

I've been having my hair cut at Pyara for two years now, and I won't go anywhere else as long as I'm in Boston. Elizabeth is the best! I always leave the salon thrilled and the cuts even get better as the weeks pass. (That, to me, is the sign of a great cut - that it grows in well) I've also had some waxing (eyebrows, bikini) done at Pyara and found the prices reasonable and the service professional. Highly recommended!

I've been here 3 times and have been pleased overall. The salon is terrific. They have the nicest pedicure station, and the pedicures are pretty good (the exfoliation could be more thorough). The waxing is excellent and virtually painless.

The facial is very relaxing, starting with a foot soak and choosing essential oils to be used during the experience. If you like the extended rest periods in between the treatments during a facial, youll be disappointed. The aesthetician is there the whole time, massaging/treating your face (definitely get your moneys worth). While the overall experience was excellent, my ultra-sensitive skin (which I mentioned beforehand) didnt react well to something I walked out with pimples on my face!

With its relaxing (and super clean!) atmosphere, helpful staff, and no sales pressure, Id definitely recommend this place (just not for facials if you have hypersensitive skin like me).

I had my haircut at Pyara and was extremely pleased with the whole experience. I am so happy that I found my old stylist Taylor and have received many compliments on my haircut. I was there on a Sunday morning and it was so peaceful! This place is a real hidden jewel.

This manicure was one of the worst I ever got.
The nails were filed unevenly, and the polish applied in a very sloppy
manner. At checkout, I mentioned that I was unsatisfied with the
service, showed how bad it was, to which the attender just shrugged
and charged me full price regardless.

I went straight home and removed the polish, and redid the nails myself.

This spa looks gorgeous, but the service is terrible.

The staff at Pyara are so friendly and helpful. They all know about the Aveda products and recommend what is best for you. Jessica Sinatra is the best for facials!! She is always spectacular!! She explains everything she is doing and makes the facial so relaxing.
Christine Perkins who is the owner and is often seen at the front counter makes you feel welcome as soon as you walk in the door. I went once with a few friends for a mini-day of pampering and Chrisitne who is also licensed jumped right in and gave a manicure that was to die for. I am so glad that such a wonderful salon finally came into Cambridge. I recommend this place to all my friends.

This is my second review of Pyara Spa & Salon
A month ago I had a hair cut and style done by Taylor---
A fantastic experience!!
My hair is basically thin and stringy-- After five weeks I am, still, getting compliments from all my friends and family--
I am able to keep it looking great-- Usually a week after haircuts I look as if I need another visit to the hairdresser!!
Not this time!!
First Kelly gave a wonderful neck massage with oils, then washing of my hair, then a warm towel before bringing me to Taylor to style my hair--
I highly recommend this salon for hair and massage services!!!
Thank-you Taylor and Kelly!!!
(And Christine, the owner, who has brought fabulous people together to work miracles on people like me!!)

1/11/2006
A massage is a very fantastic experience here---
A 30 min. massage starts with a review of your health-- then a very pleasant foot wash--massage-- Next the actual massage which was with specialty oils and warmth!!!!
Fabulous experience---
Thank-you Pyara and your wonderful staff!!!!

I'm a simple gal and have NO skin care routine, other than washing and drying (I can just FEEEEEL the cringes.) The facial I received at Pyara's Spa & Salon was such a wake-up call to my undernourished and dehydrated skin!!! The girl that did my facial used the same personalized essence I had in my massage. She treated my face with so many different applications, I forgot to count. I had a steam treatment, cooling treatments, warm treatments, hot cloth treatments (I liked those the best) with little face massages mixed in. It was marvelous, and I know my skin loved it. I got a great scalp massage, too, and an awesome arm/hand treatment, ending with warm stones placed under my palms. I could've stayed there all day!!! I was very refreshed, and went home with a skin care routine, that I promise to follow :-)

I started goinng to Pyara about 6 months before my wedding to clean up my skin and relax. The skin program that I was put on made my skin feel and look great. The massage relaxed me, which was pretty much a miracle at that point in time.
The staff at Pyara also did hair for myself and all of the bridesmaids. I was so happy with the results. Everyone looked fantsastic! The staff is also very friendly and informative. I would recommend going in a heartbeat!

The atmosphere of the pedicure room is one of the cleanest and most aesthetically pleasing I have seen. The woman who did my waxing services was very friendly, and it was a comfortable experience; although the waxing was not the absolute best I have ever had, I would highly recommend this spa/salon to anyone in the area for waxing or nail services.

I went here because of a lucky magazine promotion giving me 20 percent off of any service recieved. They charged me $150 for partial highlights (because I got two different colors?) when the listed price is $90 and up. I also have very thin hair so when I get highlights they are usually in the lowest price bracket. I left with the same exact color hair that I had when i walked in the door. This is one of the most disappointing experiences I've had coloring my hair and I DO NOT reccomend this salon.

I had called Pyara salon and wanted to ask a few questions about the facials and Nicole was very helpful, she answered a lot of my questions that I had. I booked an appointment with her the following week. It was my first time there, it was the best experience, I had a facial and the atmosphere was very relaxing and my skin looked great when I left. The staff is very proffesional and were very accomadating. I would recommend the spa I felt like a movie star!

This is the best salon hair color I've gotten. No amonia used and it's a very natural color. Everyone at Pyara was very friendly and professional. Overall, a good experience. My only complaint is that the haircut wasn't as great as the color.
