The classes themselves are good however I believe the back-office side of this organization is a mind controlling cult that is only interested in getting money from its members.
I have a loved one in this group and we have been trying to get her out. In less than a year she has gone $20k into debt because of this wonderful place. Even though this is a multi million dollar FOR PROFIT organization that brings in millions in profit to Ilchi Lee; she works there for a little over minimum wage, is forced to work hours that she isn't paid for, she doesn't get paid time off, she is basically the center master's slave for whatever they want her to do, she has to pay for all her travel and training costs even though it is supposed to be making her a better employee (real companies pay for their employees), and she doesn't have health insurance because she can't afford it. Talking to the masters doesn't make a difference, they are all brainwashed into believing that the ends justifies the means. I pleaded with them to stop my loved one from going on trips because she is addicted and it is killing her financially, they didn't care and have done NOTHING to stop her. In some cases they even borrowed her money to enable her (in process of filing complaint w Attorney General's office since this is a predatory business practice).
Our family is trying hard to get her out of this cult. Dahn Yoga is the most important thing in her life. She gave up her lifelong relgious beliefs for the words of a 70 year old Korean guy Ilchi Lee, the cult's leader. If you read his scripture books he proclaims himself to be a king and his believers should follow him if they want to get to heaven. Some members' families have had to hire professional therapists who specialize in cults or stage interventions in order to get them out. What kind of "healthy" organization requires that?

Pros: classes are ok

Cons: pushy sales, mind controlling, large debt

Things around are very good. The way I talk, walk and communicate with others are changed. I feel good from inside, very positive. I feel the paceful mind and soul. Whereever I go, I accomplish something good. Everyday is a good day and a little better for me.

My life was a living roller coaster. Full of terrifying turns, spins, barrel rolls, and even the occasional derailment. I wasn't sure how much longer I'd be able to balance school, work, church, and finals in the coming weeks. I found myself rarely at home and the only time I had to myself were meager hours of sleep each night. I needed to find a place to escape, somewhere relaxed and inviting. This is what sparked my curiosity for yoga. I had seen the utter calm of the special people who could pull off meditation. I even tried it myself, but I really didn't know what I was doing. I wanted to figure it out though, and Dahn Yoga seemed like the place for this. My introductory lesson taught me more about myself than anything else I've ever experienced. I was flabbergasted by the amount of stress energy I had accumulated in my body and how it was damaging my health. Ever since then I have been making great strides to grow stronger and more at peace. I have complete control over my entire body, now I finally own it completely! I never realized how important focus and concentration are when performing stretches or releasing bad energy. I've learned to channel my inner spirit and I've actually physically felt my chi, or my life energy. Find yourself like I did at Dahn Yoga.

I didn't know much about yoga prior to coming to visit the Dahn Yoga center in Naperville. I had been active my whole life but recently I wasn't doing as much. My knees and hips hurt most of the time and I suffered from chronic fatigue and depression.

The first thing the instructor told us to do in class was 'Smile and tap your body!' Of course I was surprised. I thought we would just be doing things like Downward Dog and Tree Pose. We did a lot of really simple stretching and exercise.
Afterwards I felt really grateful that I had tried the class. It wasn't the flashiest exercise class and I didn't get so stretched out that I would try to put my feet behind my head, but I felt much more comfortable and confident in my body. And that made me really happy for the rest of the day...

I stuck with Dahn Yoga not just for the experience in the classroom, but because of how it made the rest of my life better. Now I wake up earlier, I have more energy and motivation at work, I don't get upset about little things like I used to, and my body feels lighter and healthier. It was all the good feelings I had after the class that made me appreciate the simple exercises we did in class.

Before trying Dahn Yoga classes, I was already active in other forms of yoga and exercise.

At my first class I noticed people with all different physical conditions - some seemed to be in good shape and others looked like they were doing exercise for the first time in a long time.

I thought the class would be too easy for me. And while I did have an easier time with the stretching exercises, I was surprised at how challenging some of the breathing postures were. And the meditation made me feel very cozy and comfortable in my body.

I realized afterwards that my body felt great. But also my mind felt better. Not just calmer, but happier too. I could feel something special in the class, more than just a good workout!

I recommend everyone try a 1-on-1 introductory session before the class. You'll get more explanation of the principles of the exercises and won't be as likely to spend your class wondering 'how did they come up wtih this exercise'?
