I heard the burgers had to be tried, so I decided to try Kumas on a Wed evening. Was fairly busy, but not too bad, menu was good, with a variety of different items, including a good selection of burgers. I have to admit, the burger lived up to the hype, but I was disappointed by the slow service. And trying to get the attention of our server after our food had arrived for an extra side of bbq sauce was almost impossible for about 10 minutes. Not sure if she went on break, or just decided we were all set since we had our food. A place has to have good food to get a very good rating, but if the food gets served with attitude, or is slow in coming, I will not be inclined to return. Just my thoughts on how a successful place should be.

Most creative, best burger I've had in Chicago thus far. Also, the closest thing I can get to Chick-fila because they serve waffle fries. This is a MUST try if you're in the area. Be prepared to wait in a long line if you go on the weekend; but at least you can still grab a beer while you wait!

this place has some very delicious burgers and they are HUGE!!! the fries are waffle cut and also very good. The atmosphere is very unique and even though I despise heavy metal/hardcore music (which they blast so loud it's hard to talk to someone at your table) I still very much enjoyed this place and reccommend it to anyone looking for a great one of a kind burger joint.be sure to leave the young one's at home though.

We arrived on a friday at 3pm and expected to wait. I am guessing there pretty much isn't ever a time where waiting isnt expected. Its in a pretty crappy neighborhood, and you are compelled to wait in eeh street, and this is because of Kuma's biggest problem, the ear splitting, way too loud for a restaurant music.

I'm 30. I was a musician, I played loud obnoxious music for crowds for years, but this seemed like the obnoxious bartender had just decided that everyone within 40 yards of this place was going to get a serious education on bad, growling, "cookie monster vocal" METAL!!!!!

so long story short, you can't wait inside because you cant hear anything inside. so if you want to stare blankly at your companions for an hour or so or wait outside with everyone else. good thing it wasn't raining.

Despite it not having that many seats and having a lot of employees everything takes forever. Beers take 15 minutes, although the server isn't busy. The server cant really hear you and you cant really hear them, so it accurately resembles the awful experience of ordering a drink in a nightclub. It was pretty ridiculously slow for a place that only has 6 or so tables and serves a really simple and restricted menu Especially considering that you are compelled to mill around on a corner outside near a shady "massage parlor" for an hour or so before even being seated.

When the food arrives the portions are essentially what I call "Flintstonian." Their burgers are gigantic, essentially double the size they need to be. They have a lot of burgers, but I agree with another commented, its like a heavy metal themed "Red Robin." Nothing here is really gastronomically reaching for the stars, its primarily reliant on a gigantic amount of meat, and 2 or three things on top of it, which you could probably find other places.

The immediately began clearing things and bringing the check while the last person was still eating. They are definitely trying to turn over tables but they could have been more subtle about hustling us out of there. we weren't exactly loitering, in fact we were being conscious that there was a wait and still felt a bit hustled out of there.

The large serving size, mountain of fries and general greasiness of it all i am sure is great for drunks and anyone else who wants to gain 5 lbs at the same time while losing their hearing. I've had burgers as good or better in chicago and didn't have to deal with 1/8th of as much as a trip to Kumas.

The food isnt bad, but its not revolutionary, its heaping amounds of greasy indulgence food. However if you don't want to make an ordeal out of getting

Cons: Insanely loud music. Insanely slow service.

Kumas is the best burger u will ever eat. It honestly is the most creative burger joint in the chi. I don't know how people can post bad things about this place. If anybody was to ask where should I go for a burger I would say KUMAS CORNER!!!

Amazing burgers...Try the Mayhem. Unbelievable. The waitress think they're hot and all you can say is "REALLY???" (if you like the chubby and tattooed type) But the food is UNBLIEVABLE.

Ok, I get this place is "gourmet" burgers and all, but why are the fries not hand cut? That would be a good place to start. Next I've had better burgers, and just as inventive ones, so the real questions is, is it the ambiance? Probably. I was there on the Friday over Memorial Day Weekend, and it was packed. Sure the wait was an hour to get a seat, but for real, why another hour for a burger and fries? There were three people at our table, and none of us ordered any of the more complicated burgers. Mine was something actually akin to a Red Robin burger. So if you must have ear splitting death metal, and slasher movies on the big screen this is the place for you. If you want a good burger without all the madness skip this place. Chicago is jammed with awesome burger joints I'd suggest one of them instead.

Pros: good food, but not good enough!

Cons: wait was 2 hrs, music was ear splitting

.

I heard great things about the place and anticipated a long wait. So, a group of 6 of us showed up and was told it was going to be an hour and a half wait which we anticipated. We were patient, got some beers and waited. We began to notice that people that showed up after us were getting seated, and we asked what the deal was. The lady playing hostess just told us to wait and she will seat us as soon as possible. Trying to be accomodating, we waited for the alloted 1.5 hours. At that point, we have seen at least 4 groups who arrived after being seated. We asked again what the deal was and was told that because we are a party of 6, she can't seat us until a party of 4 and a party of 2 leave... yet she has been seating those people before us. All she needed to do was anticipate which two tables relatively close together is leaving, and hold them. But that would obviously require too much brain power to do. She obviously don't get that when you have a wait list, you sit people according to the waitlist as much as possible.

I would only go there if you are in a group of 4 or less because otherwise, you will be waiting, literally, for eternity before getting a seat.

Cons: god-awful hostess

Kuma's Corner has good food. I've been there with friends and family many times. However, it is hardly worth the wait or the the crushingly crowded experience. The service is mediocre. The waitstaff usually consists of one person, and the bartenders tend mostly to friends and regulars. The place is so small, and it's constantly over-capacity. I'm surprised it hasn't been shut down due to over-crowding.

Lastly... it used to be a metal bar, and has now become a scene/emo/rockabilly (they're all the same anyway) hangout.

Let's face it... that ruins any bar.

Pros: Great food. Get there when no one else is around... like right when it opens.

Cons: Scene kids. I mean, really... that's huge.

I saw this place on Check Please. I went to check it out with my brother, sister and nephews. The kids loved the burgers. The mac-n-cheese is to die for. I will definately be back for the food, and the bloody mary's were good too. I highly recommend this resturant.

Where else can you get a burger called "Lair of the Minotaur," piled high with carmelized onions, brie and bourbon soaked pears? This restaurant combines three of my favorite items-metal, great meat, and an excellent beer selection. I actually waited two hours, which is quite possibly the longest I have ever waited for a table at a restaurant. And it was well worth it.

I've never thought that the service here is great but lately it's downright awful. The bartenders rarely look up to see if you need a drink and spend their time talking to people they know instead. Sorry if I'm not tatted up and in a grungy outfit but stop taking shots with your buddies and learn your craft before you start losing business, mine's already gone. Let me temper my comments by saying that some of the people that work there are great but a few need to go a.s.a.p. and I won't be returning.

Kuma's really does have the best burgers in the city. Juicy, thick, cooked up exactly how you want. I love just to get the basic Kuma burger with a fried egg on top, messy and gooey but so worth it. The music is too loud, the wait is too long, but the quality and thought put into it make everything worthwhile.

I have been going here since they opened, before they even had a liquor license. Now, of course, there's always a wait, but it is well worth it. The old stand-by, the Kuma burger, is out of this world, and now there are even more that can rock your world. Unfortunate for me, I can't get there like I used to because it is just too dang crowded (my kids don't wait), but if you haven't tried it-- GO. Simply the best burgers in the United States.

I love burgers and I hate throwing around the term "best burger", but this is that place. The place is extremely small and only has about 12 tables, so be prepared to wait. The typical wait is about an hour, but I've been there when it was 2 and you couldn't move and had to wait outside. Everyone on the staff is tattooed and pierced and they couldn't be any friendlier. They don't serve Bud or Miller and have a sign to that effect, you'll have to choose a micro brew from their huge selection. As for the burgers, they are fantastic! Each burger is named after a heavy metal band and they are huge. The burgers come on a Labriola pretzel bun and they are pretty hard to get into your mouth. I usually order the Clutch burger, which is a fancy cheeseburger with 4 kinds of cheese and the cheese is about a quarter inch thick and melted all over the burger. Unfortunately besides the burger I've never had anything else at Kuma's, the burger is so big and so good there isn't room for anything else. If you like a big, juicy, well made burger, a huge beer selection and metal music, you have to try this place.

I finally went to the much-talked about Kuma's Corner a few days ago and I have to say, it blew my mind. Now, I don't say this lightly. I am from Nebraska and am very picky about my beef. But man, those burgers were out of control. Of their menu, half are dedicated to their burgers, all of which are named after metal bands. I had a "Judas Priest," a burger topped with bacon and bleu cheese dressing with apples, walnuts, and dried cranberries. It was really delicious, though my stomach is still dealing with the aftermath of the meal, as are the stomachs of my dining companions. =/ Still, it was well worth it. My beer-snob friends also were thrilled at the great beer selection offered. The only other downside of this place (aside from the indegestion) was the wait. There are only a handful of tables in Kuma's, so it is recommended to go early. I also heard that there is an outdoor seating area available during the summer. I will be back during the warmer months to check this out.

...even without Bette Page. There is nothing better than a restaurant you walk into and can say to yourself, "Ah...I'm home!" Kuma's Corner is the an alt-rock/psycho-billy/rocka-billy juke joint with great music to compliment a great menu. It's located on Belmont, but far enough west to be free of the "Lincoln Park Trixies" and the parking clusterf*ck.

A rock & roll bar run by real rock & rollers who genuinely want their guests to have an excellent experience. Customer service is second to none. There's no pretension or snobby attitudes and the food comes out quick and fresh. The seating is comfortable, whether you're at a table or bellied up to the bar. There are great happy hour specials for food and drinks - give a call before you head over to find out if there is $2 pints and half priced burgers, or appetizer specials.

The food was great! We started with the pork fries. The smothered with BBQ pork and cheese and absolutely delicious! They have so many burgers to choose from and they all sound amazing!
The location is very small and was consistently busy. Our waitress was slow to take our order and to bring our check, but it was worth the wait!

While I know there are not enough descriptive words in the English language to acurately define the superbness of this restaurant, I will make an attempt.

I could describe the fantastic taste of every dish, but I don't want to take up too much of you time, so I will simply say this:

YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED.

The food, the beer, the music, and the people make this without a doubt a fine dining experience like you have never had in your life.

All of our mothers are wonderful cooks, right? Imagine if you sent your mother to culinary school for 4 years, then took her best dish, paired it with the most complimentary beverage imaginable (ask Alex, he will know), and dined on it in the most comfortable yet, rockin' atmosphere ever to be created.

That is the Kuma experience. Fine cuisine (think comfort food) like your tastebuds could never imagine, an atmosphere that feels like home, and a staff that will keep you smiling.

You just can't go wrong with Kuma's-it's a good time with great people, great food & drink, and great music.

Check it out today. Seriously. Then you can die happy.

We went to Kuma's originally for their extensive beer list and because any place that plays heavy metal all the time is OK by us. Beer list is great; only disappointment is that they've never had Capital available, despite having a sign for it. Plenty of others to choose from, though. The background music is cool, and it is definitely in the background, so if you're not a fan you won't even notice it. Heavily tattooed and pierced guys running the place are equally friendly to other tattooed and pierced folk and families with kids or middle-aged couples. And the food! Wow! Not just your average bar food here. Most recently they had a "make your own" mac & cheese option on the menu...husband had bacon and onions, I had andouille and red pepper...so good! BBQ pork fries are ridiculously huge and fattening but so tasty. The place is a bit out of the way, but well worth the trip. The city could use more places like this!

At a place where you woudn't think the food would be anything but average, Kuma's Corner suprises. The muscles are a must have, along with their chicken sandwich and kuma burger. Not your ordinary bar, this Belgum Bar is a must try. The wait service is the only thing that is shaky at times, although the bartenders are wonderful.
