My one and only time here , they seemed to have addressed all of the gripes I just read about ie: hot wet towel to wipe my hands after eating, fast food delivery (1,2,3) ,many eyes on me to see if I was needing anything but not stopping unless they got a nod ( I like attention but not having to swallow good food too fast to say all is well) I did however catch a mistake on my bill that was immediately rectified. This is my post to City Lobster and Steak web site! "I had the greatest lobster dinner there last night! Thomas and Emiliano attended my every need. The oyster appetizer was very flavorful. The huge 2.5 lb lobster was just so sweet I went through 3 hot butters! And then the cheesecake desert was light and creamy! all washed down by some ice cold Stella Beer. Thank you so much for a most excellent meal before enjoying Janet Jackson down the street at Radio City. Great work ,keep it up and I will make it a point to bring friends next time! "
PS all with no reservation !

Running the restaurant comes with more then having a food.
People that think they invented the world.
I love sea food but will never go to them.

Seafood was so fresh and amazing. Was with a pretty large group and we all had steamed lobster. Also, Had crabcakes to start (im a sucker for good crabcakes). Agree with review below..food was outstanding and the service was very on point. I wouldn't say its fast which is good cause I hate to feel rushed when I'm dining out. Can't wait till I go back..

The RW menu was pretty good for lunch.

We started with the clam chowder, BLT wedge and oysters Rockefeller. Our entrees were lobster roll, angus NY strip and crab cake. The latter was so small it should be an appetizer, not an entree. We had to wait for a long time for our dessert to arrive. The chef is preparing we were told. When we got it, we didn't see why it took so long. We had the red, blue, white shortcake, key lime pie and profiteroles arabica.

The place was not busy at all for lunch on a Saturday.

I ordered a bowl of soup and an order of fried calamari for dinner on an average Tuesday night. After being advised it would take no longer than 45 minutes (they are 3 blocks away), it took 1.5 hours.

Not to mention, the fried calamari was colder than the cup of Sprite that came with it. I wouldn't feed it to my dog.

I'd highly recommend avoiding.

I had a very bad experience at this restaurant. I was not only overcharged on my credit card!!. I Received bad service, Small portion size for the outrageous price & the food was mediocre. Manager & staff are very rude. Brought us wrong orders. We signed one bill for 96 dollars after they fixed their error we were charged on our card way over our original amount!!. FRAUDS!! STAY AWAY! AS FAR AS YOU CAN Not Worth The Trip & Price
I eat out all the time and praise good service & food but this place is terrible

Me and my Daughter dined at City Lobster this past Friday night. I had walked past the restaurant numerous times but never had ventured in. Our server was very charming and attentive, and drew our attention to the pre-fix menu. This menu was continued through restaurant week and was a great deal with three courses for only $35. My Daughter and I enjoyed the delicious menu with the Sea Scallops Entree being the highlight recommended why our waiter. The whole experience was pretty enjoyable except for the multiple arguments we noticed going on in the front of the restaurant amongst the management and employees . Me and my daughter tried ignoring the situation but the fights continued to get louder ruining our meal. I was shocked that the situation was not taken off the floor and bothered by the way the employees were being treated. Overall the food was great for a great price. However the experience was uncomfortable, I would not dine at City Lobster again but perhaps would order take out.

My wife and I brought our 2 friends to City Lobster after seeing the advertisement in our hotel room. Our two friends are asian. While this detail seems insignificant, it most definitely is not, as we witnessed the restaurants head maitre'd demean an asian staff member over and over again right in front of our table. Talking loudly and slowly in his face, grabbing the poor mans arm, pulling him around like a slave, barking orders. My wife was visibly upset. later in the evening we saw the same man drinking a bottle of wine glass after glass, which no doubt is one of the causes for his actions, because he had the most bizarre interaction with table directly behind us which we over heard, and when he walked away the man at the table said "what and who the heck was that? what a creep." Upon our exit the man mumbled something to us and when I asked what he said he rolled his eyes and walked back again behind the bar, surely to get another drink. The food at the restaurant was delicious, but I will never willingly put my hard earned money in the pocket of such a person.

After seeing their ad on TV in our hotel room; my wife and I decided to have an early supper before going to the theatre. Stopped in around 6:00pm on Saturday March 6, 2010. The hostess inquired if we had reservations. We said no. She escorted us to a table in the back in a corner. We asked if we could have one of the many empty tables situated in the middle of the restaurant and also mentioned that their TV advertisement said nothing about reservations needed. Her response, You should learn how to read. We ask for the manager on our way out, the manager in turn ask the hostess what was the issue. Her response; THEY DID NOT WANT TO SIT IN THE BACK, and furiously walk away. Needless to say City Lobster will never have to worry about any of my family or friends ever making a reservation to their establishment.

$1 oysters at this kind of place is a very good deal, not only do they have $1 oysters, but they also have great prices for lobsters. I work and live around the area. When I go there for lunch I usually get the pre-fix menu, or sometimes I get the special of the day. The special of the day is always fresh, and it's also a lot, sometimes I can?t even finish it. The few times that I have been there for dinner, I have ordered the lobster (OF COURSE) and I have also tried the Alaskan king crab legs-DELICIOUS!! I always get the saffron seafood risotto as a side and it?s just so amazingly yummy and plentiful. All the waiters that have been taking care of me have been either very professional, or smiley, or funny, or hilarious. I have never had a bad experience with the service. One of my favorite menus here is the surprisingly affordable wine list ($35-$200 a bottle). I highly recommend this place!!

Headed to City Lobster last night with much anticipation for a wonderful dining experience. My wife ordered the Australian Lobster Tail directly from the menu...the waitor told us "we don't have any"....this is on a Friday, early evening, in the theater district. Think about it: a Lobster place that does not serve lobster tails. The food service was not up to par for the prices charged...the actual meal was cold when served...even the bread was old and gummy. I would not recommend City Lobster...there are so many wonderful places to eat in NYC that offer better food and service, and at a better price.

this place is T.G.I.Friday's with lobster and higher prices!

Service is horrible - they don't know the menu, cast aside responsibility, and leave you waiting.

Outside of the lobsters, the food is embarrassing...I mean I was embarrassed, and I would be tremendously embarrassed if I were the one serving it, let alone asking for money in return. For instance, the salads were Dole pre-prepared!! And not even a full serving.

I think any reviewer that liked the place - for any reason - enjoyed the decently priced lobsters. But that won't even get me back. There are too many restaurants in the city with a good deal on lobster where you can enjoy a thing or two otherwise as well.

Anyhow - this place was built for after work neighbors and tourists. And when you put those two together - T.G.I.Friday's is what you get.

Real bad... real big disappointment.
We waited forever for our food and when it arrived it was sub-par. Save your money and go to a real seafood resturaunt for lunch. We didnt even test the culinary skills of the kitchen with our super-easy to prepare orders... but if they couldnt get those right, I'd be affraid to see what they produce for dinner entrees.
Some other highlights of our experience...
(a) they changed the pre-fixe menu for resturaunt week on us -- which was the main reason we came -- from very alluring entrees to unappealing, unoriginal dishes.
(b) the price of regular menu items were changed on us, after we decided to work off of the regular menu as opposed to the resturaunt week "recently revised" options.
(c) Calamari appetizer-- about as good as calamari at Red Lobster. Small, masked with breading and spices, and chewy.
(d) Lobster Brioche -- decent lobster meat stuffed onto a tiny slab of over-buttered bread, served with a side of soggy fries. Coming to you at the very reasonable price of $25!

Our welcome was excellent. Pleasant and efficient Maitre D' had us seated immediately honoring our reservation. Martinis were excellent. Our waiter, Shaun, was quite pleasant and efficient.
Restaurant Week menu was in effect; the spinach salad and its dressing was excellent as was the bread in the bread basket. Red Snapper and accompanying crabmeat was top notch. Portion could have a bit larger but my wife said it was sufficient. My steamed 1 1/4 lb. lobster was delectable; sweet, filled with chunks of delicious meat, and properly prepared. Accompanying clams (2) and mussels (3) as well as corn and 3 potato pieces were delicious as well. Desserts were OK and our waiter got us out in a timely fashion for 8 o'clock show. Overall good value. As a recommendation however, I'd suggest that regular coffee/tea be made part of the special menu given these difficult economic times. We will definitely return to this restaurant.

City Lobster is a hidden gem near Rockefeller. I went there for Brunch for the first time last weekend and was extremely impressed!! The staff was really knowledgeable and the food was amazing. They started us with a basket of olive bread, a free bloody mary!!, our own canteens of coffee, and our meal came in the perfect amount of time. The huevos rancheros with shrimp was the best i've ever had!! I would definitely recommend!

Horrible food! I dine out 6 nights a week in NYC and this is the 1st time I have participated in restaurant week. I was surprised to read some of the glowing reviews for this place when my experience was so bad. The shrimp cocktail was very poor quality and the lobster was awful - the clams and mussels were so dry so I didn't eat them. Even the little pc. of corn on the cob was overcooked and dry. If I were at a different restaurant or it wasn't restuaruant week, I would have returned all of it. The only reason I didn't is b/c I was out w/ a few people that I hadn't seen in a while so I didn't want to make a scene. Although I understand that the food is mass produced for these 2 weeks, it's not like the restaurant is giving it away for free. After wine/tip, it was still $100 per person. Total waste of money.

I work down the street and decided to bring clients to City Lobster for dinner on Wed. We were a little early for our reservations and decided to have a drink at the bar. Though we did wait about 25 minutes the hostess was very sweet and kept letting us know where we were on the list. At first we thought they did not give us the special menu, but realized it was on the other side of the cocktail list. They had all these fun and inventive cocktails.... I had the "Flirtini" and my friend had the "Luscious Blossom". The men we were with of course just had Stella's! The three course meal was well worth it, big portions and fresh seafood. One of my clients had a Ny Strip Steak with was suprisingly very tasty. It was very busy, but we never felt neglected. Will have to someday try to eat a whole 2lb lobster!!

Went there for Rest.Week on July 24th....They seated us late, ( 8:42) for a 8:00 reservation, although I was ten minutes late. They seated us at a "broken table"...the food runners brought someone else's food to our table, not once, but twice!!! After I finished the appetizers...I asked the busboy for some bread (which we should have had before the apps...) he brought it out...and as I reached for a roll...I noticed a large "bite" mark in the roll...gross...they "reused" my bread from another table. Really bad. The Manager (who was at the hostess desk upon arrival) was very rude, and un accomodating.
I then went to write a comment on the "open table " website, and was unable to due to them "cancelling out" my dinner reservation. I called the restaurant to mention this to them, and got an even worse Manager by the name of "Gabriel"... Bad food. Poor Reservation system, rude managers, and bad food. Never Again.

My husband and I live in the city, so we know restaurant week is not usually worth it at most restaurants (small portions to make up for low price). But not at City Lobster! I have to say it is the best deal in the city. We went last night and had a great time. I had the shrimp cocktail with this sweet guacamole, they were colossal. Then the lobster bake with clams, mussels, and yummy corn. For dessert i had the warm chocolate cake, soft and so rich. where else can you get a whole lobster meal for $35.00?!! We were seated about 5 minutes after our reservation, had an excellant server, and very efficient busboys. Overall it was definately worth it and we will be back (at the end of our meal they let us know they are extending the menu all summer)!!

Pros: great service, yummy lobster

Cons: loud bar if your sitting at front of dining room

Party of four for dinner before a short walk to Radio City Music Hall. City Lobster is an attractive setting on busy 49th street. The restaurant serves some "cutesy" drinks with names like Napoleon Dynamite, Lucious Blosson, Lady Killer and French Kiss Martini...tasty way to start off the evening. The rolls are stale, no fancy dipping oils... there is no disguising that The Lobsters are the thing here. You select the size: anything between 2 lbs and 9 lbs, the preparation: boiled, angry with garlic and red pepper flake butter sauce, stuffed and broiled, etc. The Lobsters were listed at "market price" which last night meant $25.00 per pound, and at $25.00 a pound the lobsters come with nothing....the available sides (Mashed potatoes, broccoli, cole slaw or fries) are all $6.00 or $7.00 extra . Trust me with a two pound minimum size there isn't much room for sides. The lobsters were marginally overcooked (the claw meat stuck to the shell) but delicious nonetheless. The greater concern was the grouper special. The men ordered two pound lobsters, but the wives both ordered the grouper. Three hours later both men still felt pleasingly stuffed, but the women were both a little green and uncomfortable. The desserts were uninspired. The lessons to be learned here: (a) location, location, location (close to Radio City Music Hall and Times Square), (b) everyone in your party should be prepared to order lobster, (c) a little over priced, but you knew that before you walked in.

We arrived about 10 minutes early for our 7:30pm reservation. The hostess was not the warmest individual I have ever met, but did politely ask us to wait at the bar while they prepared our table. We were seated promptly at a lovely little table tucked into a nook in the back of the restaurant. Perfectly romantic and secluded for our special night.

Though our waiter wes not terribly quick (which was fine as we were not in a hurry at all), when he did arrive he was friendly and knowledgable, answering the questions I had about the menu. We selected one of the half bottles of Sancerre; we both enjoyed it's light and dry taste and ordered off the regular menu. My boyfriend ordered the clam chowder and salmon and I had the wedge salad and grilled shrimp. He enjoyed the flavor of the soup but felt he would have preferred a bit less substance and a little more soup. His fresh salmon was cooked to his requested temperature (Med) and prepared with a colorful compote-esque topper. The polenta that accompanied it was very smooth and creamy. My wedge salad was fresh and crisp and the blue cheese was delicious. My shrimp were succulent and not overseasoned; also very fresh. The spinach risotto was thick but not too heavy and paired well with the shrimp. We skipped the desserts and only had after dinner drinks (my boyfriend, an irish coffe and for me, "the gingerbread man"). This was the one area I found somewhat disappointing... though the acctual liquid was smooth and creamy and the crumbled graham crackers satisfyingly crunchy the bartender must have rimmed the glass with LEMON which really ruined the drink because it soured the creamy texture. The bartender should have known better. After wiping the rim I did enjoy it much more.

Overall, we enjoyed our evening here. We did not feel rushed or hurried. The music was not too loud and we found the ambiance in our cozy corner just right. The food is not extremely flavorful; rather the freshness of the fish is highlighted.

Cons: value only average for Times Square, bartender needs to review his/her basics

Went there for Restuarant week today. The bread was stale, shrimp raviolli was nasty, the crab cakes were very good but tiny (if this is just a sample because its Restuarant week, then you lost a customer because I feel it is always like that, not worth the second try). Key Lime pie was good. But would not go again

Me and some frindes of mine went to this place, lastnight for the first time, and it was a quite good experience. We made reservation for 8:30 p.m. and we arrived a little bit early, so we decided to seat at the bar, where the bartender was very kind and nice, and we have some delicious drinks. Then we went to the dinning room, and had the restaurant week menu; which was really tasty and reasonable. And included the best crab cakes I've ever ate!!!! The service was fantastic ,the wine list and the special cocktails were really good!!!! I highly recommend this place to anyone who wants to have a great experience, and who enjoys eating great food as I do.

The food was less than average and the service was the worst. The manager Jennifer was rude and disrespectful and because of her attitude it reflected in the tip we left. The waitress, at the end of the night came up to us as we were leaving the restaurant, Sandra talking loud and complaining about her tip. We informed her that he tip reflects the level of service we received.I would not reccommend this place to no one I know. Don't waste your good hard earned money or time. You will have a better dinner eating from a vendor on the street.

Six of us went there last night. We all ordered from the Restaurant Week menu. I am a lobster bisque lover but the one that they served tasted and smelled like spoiled fish. They didn't put enough cream and apparently the chef did not know the proper way of preparing seafood soup. The shrimp ravioli was ok except that it was soaked in olive oil. The main courses came out decent though. Most of us ordered the lobster with mussels, clams and potatos served with butter. The mussels were a little over cooked but the lobsters were very fresh. The butter did not taste like regular melted butter (in a good way). The striped bass was surprisingly tasty and very moisted. We completed the dinner with chocolate cake with vanilla ice-cream, and key lime pie with sorbet. The chocolate cake was a little dry but it was ok since there was ice-cream on top of it. However, there was no sorbet with the keylime pie like it said on the menu. Overall the food was average, however, not worth $35+tax+20% tips. We also ordered two bottles of wine so came out as $64 per person. I'd rather spend the money at Jordan Lobster in Long Island.

I went here for my daughter's 22nd birthday. The busboy spilled a tray of water all over me!The food was mediocre for the price and the manager is a cold fish ( French or Israeli--I could not palce is accent). I was offered a minor discount ( one meal out of five) and the manager never even came back to see if I was satisfied. I was forced to walk around Rockefeller Center and see "The Tree" in soggy clothes! I should have gone to Mc Donald's and had a fish sandwich! The waiter was the only redeeming factor. He was friendy, pleasant and interested in my well being.

First things first, I am from the area, so I have had good Maine Lobsters before. We walked in and were taken aback by no lobsters in the tank, the Manager was very sweet and assured us they had them. She even joked about them crawling around the fridge waiting to be eaten! My wife and I started with appetizers, both of which were quite tasty! We then shared a stuffed 3 pound lobster with some side dishes. It was amazing! The lobster was sweet, and you could taste how fresh it was. The waitress was funny and very knowledgeble of the menu. She suggested great drinks, and we even opted for a dessert cocktail.... a little strong, but quite delish. We had a great experience at this restaurant and will definately be back!!

I dined at City Lobster, after recommended from our hote, with 3 others this past Thursday night. Right upon walking through the door, we felt very unwanted. We had to ask if we could sit in the bar to have a few drinks and the hostess was very unpleasant. The bar service was pretty great, but the bar was really busy. There was only one cocktail waitress, but we never had to wait for our drinks, which is great.
After our cocktails we went and ate in the dining room. The server was attentive at first, trying to sell a bottle of wine. We ordered a bottle of wine off the list, which it turned out they didn't have. The server then tried to sell us the most expensive bottle. The appetizers weren't that great. We had tuna tar-tar, which was oily. We had calmari, which was ok but a bit chewy. We had some of the soups, and had to send them back because they were cold. We ordered lobster, which is ironic because they didnt have any in the tank. A lobster restaurant, without lobsters? Not very good. The lobsters were a bit rubbery and wayyyyy over priced. They offered us the special of the evening, but we had to ask at the end for her to give us the sale price. This took forever and the manager was not very nice. She seemed annoyed with us for their mistake. The desserts were terrible. The beer was great, though. The bathrooms were very dirty and the smell was horrible.
It was a horrible dining experience and I would never go back.

I tried this place during Restaurant week. Boy, was it a disappointment. We had the oyster appetizer, which was very good & fresh. The crab cake was good as well, but then the entree came. You would think the Lobster would be the main attraction (it IS called city LOBSTER) but it was overcooked, tasted rubbery & it did not taste good at all. I had to drench it with fresh ground pepper. It didn't even come with butter to dip it in. The dessert was not good at all. The key lime did not fare well as well as the chocolate cake. Overall, a big disappointment with the exception of the appetizers. On top of it, we were seated all the way in the back & it was stuffy & hot there. There was no AC felt throughout the restaurant except by the bathroom (only because there's an office building next to it & they had the door open to let the AC into the restaurant. I would never go back again.

Yesterday evening my spouse and I went to the restaurant as it was close to work. We should have realised that since it was emplty on a Friday night at 8o'clock, it was a Bad Sign but we thought lets give it a try. They seated us & though there may have been less than 5 tables occupied, the service was very slow, In the beginning our waitress was pleasant & we both ordered the Lobster Roll & my spouse had a cocktail (12.95) which he said wasn't too bad. The lobster Roll arrived & it looked more like a Stale Lobster Coleslaw, with burned fries (Cost 21.95 each) it had no flavor, & left us with a bad taste. Being courteous (which was my mistake) we didn't say anything to the waitress. There was no sign of her so we waited for 10 mins just to ask her for the bill, after waiting another 10 mins for her to pick it up, while she talked to other customers and completely ignored our table, we had to find the Manager who was sitting at the bar & on being told didn't care, We paid the Bill, but for the First time in over 10 yrs of dining out we didn't leave a tip.

I felt compelled to write this review as i like many others read the reviews posted & don't want anyone to waste their money. If you want good seafood NYC has many other wonderful places like Pearl Oyster Bar, Mary's Fish Camp, BLT Fish a few that come to mind that are exceptional. For seasoned New Yorkers like us it left us feeling ripped off & i wouldn't want others to go through this as NY has an amazing gastromic scene.

I would never return to this place and feel an obligation to help steer others away, which I actually did while leaving. We ordered the tuna and salmon tar-tar, and the crab cake for apps. The crab cake was good, not great, just good. The tar-tar on the other hand was more of a chopped raw fish in mayo, very dissapointing to my 2 guests. Our 3 dinner choices were pan seared lobster, pan seared striped bass, and a steak. Now I know the general rule of ordering steak at a seafood restaurant, but City Lobster really enforces that rule with the most toughest piece of meat, a real chew toy if you own a dog. The pan seared lobster was nothing more than an oblivious alchemists dream to turn gold into lead. The sauce created for this lobster was in plain words "disgusting". My sea bass would have been good if the whole middle of the fillet wasn't the "black fat" of the fish. The desserts of key lime (I think it was supposed to be a pie or cheese cake or maybe a pudding?) was a joke. I could've done better with Sarah Lee. The apple cobbler was returned as should of have been the whole meal. Not even the coffee was any good (stale). We shared our dissapointment with the Maitre di, who did not wish to hear us, and shrugged the ordeal. The one star given is for the bar, which was pleasant and charming, where I wish we had remained instead of being seated at a table.

Pros: Not a place for dining

Cons: Great bar

At City Lobster, you'll find an extensive section of the menu simply devoted to that eponymous creature, the lobster. The lobster also features prominently in the salads, appetizers, and other menu items.
