The place was empty yet the older women rudely said we needed reservations to be seated, while the younger woman seemed a tad surpirsed by her comment. I saw 2 Japanese men laughing and drinking at the back table, no one else in sight. Being Japanese didn't even seem to matter to her, it was probably the fact that we looked like a normal mother and daughter looking for a nice dinner. I think they want sketch. Next time maybe I'll wear a short mini with red hot lipstick, and tell my mom to do the same ( who cares if she's in her early 60s?). I'm sure we'll be seated.

Pros: looked okay...

Cons: rude woman

I should have known this place was going to be sketchy after the manager tried to talk us out of coming in. Said that all the tables were reserved for Japanese people, and that they wanted to smoke. Sitting at the bar and the cigarette smoke didn't really bother me, but the fact that the tables were empty except for 2 for our entire visit did.

And the following added to the frustration:
-the yakitori menu is in Japanese with a price listed next to pictures. what we found out is that you have to order two pieces (common in Japanese yakitori places), but the listed price is for 1 piece. so the $6.75 price for the chicken yakitori was PER SKEWER!, making it about 3 x more expensive ($13.50 per order) than every other yakitori restaurant we've been to in New York.
-beer is not on the menu, and I made the mistake of ordering without asking the price. It turned out to be $8.50(!!) for a mug of beer, almost the price of a pitcher in similar restaurants.

The food in general was OK. The atmosphere is typical for a Yakitori bar in New York - not fancy but OK. But the sticker shock and the rude service makes this a place to avoid at all costs!
