Hello, my name is James and I just wanted to share my Tools for Life experience with you because one of the most powerful and valuable tools to help educate people are personal stories of those who have been triumphant in overcoming a substance or alcohol addiction. I began with Tools for Life approximately 5yrs ago, at that time I thought that I was ready to succeed with this program. However, I thought I could just continue to drink and play the game of Tools for Life. However, I was the one who in all actuality was getting played on, by my own hand. After spending almost 1yr incarcerated due to my alcoholism, I realized that I needed to make a drastic change, because of my bad choices I had lost my job, house, wife and driving priveleges. I was dependant upon others to take me to Job interviews, my classes at Tools for life, the grocery store, etc. Which was not fun, depending on others to do something for me because I was so independant. So I made the decision not only to take a good look at the Alcoholic in me and I decided to take the classes @ TFL seriously, There were several core suggestions that I followed because they seemed to work: ??Don't drink or drug. Go to meetings. Join a Group. Ask God for help in the morning on your knees, say thank you in the evening, on your knees. Help another alcoholic.? It was very clear in the circle I traveled, that it was the first suggestion, not to use, that mattered and you needed to do whatever you needed to make that happen. After participating for more than 1 1/2 yrs with TFL and completing all required meetings @ TFL, I then went on to make daily AA classes which solidified my dedication to becoming clean and sober and staying that way with the support of my family, freinds and the staff @ TFL. Now after 5yrs of not being able to drive, I have now obtained my driving privileges again. I attribute this to several things, 1. I realized that I had an addiction, and took the necessary steps to overcome this addiction. (It is still is and will always be a daily struggle) 2. I actively participated in the group sessions and did not just take up a seat. 3. The staff @ TFL was of great assistance in helping me learn and acquire the tools necessary to be successful. They were polite, respectful, helpful, and genuinely cared about me and what I wanted to accomplish. Shelly, Steve Thank You...and if there is anything I can do to help in the future please do not hesitate to contact me. I would Highly recommend TFL to all
