I've been seeing Dr. Horowitz since around 2003 when my former physician passed away and Dr. Horowitz took his patients. It took awhile to get the records transferred, but he has always remembered me and my 2 kids when he sees us. We are not regulars, but his receptionist always seems to remember my name. His staff and nurses have always been polite and accomodating.

I don't understand the disgruntled reviews. He is businesslike, yes, but he has always diagnosed my problems accurately, make necessary referrals, and answered all my questions. He has been nothing but pleasant with me. He has called me after hours to check on me.

I normally go to Dr. Horowitz's office in midtown for my yearly physical. I work 2 buildings down from his downtown office. I had never been to that office before, but I had an emergency one day while I was at work so I called the downtown office and they squeezed me in even though they were fully booked. I did have to wait 20-30 min which is understandable since I was squeezed in. Once I was in the room, I did't wait long for the doctor. He came in, listened to what was wrong and quickly diagnosed me. He said he was concerned that what I had (which was a major allergic reaction to medicine) would get worse. He told that if certain symptoms present, that he is available for me 24 hours. If not that I must call him 9am the next morning. Thankfully, it did not progress and I called him at 9am. He got right on the phone to talk to me. I felt he was a very competent doctor and he cared about my sitaution.

Pros: squeeze in emergency, quality doctor, open to follow-up with problem

.

I have had the unfortunate experience to have visited both offices of Dr Horowitz. Both times he had no recollection of who I was, nor did he even bother to look at my chart. I needed to page him one time during the weekend for a true emergency (I ended up being admitted to the hospital) and he behaved as if I were disturbing him. You can forget about leaving him a message, he will either never receive it, or he will just not return your call. If you are on regular medication, you must call and call and call just to get a refill. If you want to be abused, or made to feel worthless or troublesome make an appointment here.

Pros: none

Cons: rude uninterested physician and staff

.

Horrible staff! Uninterested staff with no people skills, said that I could see the doctor without much of a wait when i explained my schedule and the emergency, and then made me wait an hour in the waiting room and another 30 mins in the private room. No follow-ups and you really get the feeling like they are doing you a favor by seeing you. For a real doctor go elsewhere, to get taken advantage of come here.

On my second visit, he entered the examining room with only the notes provided by the med student with whom I met first - he did not bother to get my chart (or perhaps to start one on my first visit - and prescriptions were written on that occasion). I called his office two days later and asked that he call me when available (I had a question about a prescription). I was told that instead I should call the next day. I called the next day and asked to leave a message again, and the receptionist declined (implicitly) saying "please call back between 3 and 4". I called then, and she said she would be happy to take a message. I reminded her that I was told to call between 3 and 4, and then was then connected to Horowitz. I told him my name and that he saw me two days ago; he expressed no recognition, and said only, flatly "leave your name and number with the front desk, and be sure that the number is one where I can reach you after five" then transferred me without another word, and never called me back. Btw, there is only review of him (mine, same as this) on RateMDs.

Pros: easy to get an appointment

Cons: unprepared; fails to return calls; staff fails to take messages

.

Dr. Horowitz is a competent and thorough doctor. I've always found him to be direct and to the point, but not rude or impersonal as some of the other reviewers suggest. I've never waited more than 15 minutes at his wall st. office and his assistants have been accommodating of schedule changes. Dr. Horowitz has personally followed up with me each time I had tests conducted, leaving multiple messages until I returned his call. In my experience, he is an excellent doctor and I feel that he is on top of his game.

Pros: quality of care, flexibility of locations and office hours

Cons: Nothing major.

.

I have been seeing Dr. Horowitz for a while now, but am going to switch doctors soon. The reason? You guessed it: the guy is just plain nasty. He seems like a decent enough doctor, but he makes it very clear that this is a business for him, and having to actually deal with patients is just an inconvenience he has to deal with. He will do everything to maximize his revenue. For example, he once told me to make an appointment due to some bloodwork results, but all he did at that appointment was give me a referral. He could have obviously done this over the phone, but wanted to score that extra $$ for an office visit. This took him all of 30 seconds, yet I had to wait an hour in his waiting room for the privilege (you usually have to wait quite a while, as I think he double books, again to increase revenue). I'm all for a guy making a buck, but that does seem to be all he cares about.

I've also been amazed at how many times I here him berating his patients (right in the waiting room)! It is usually regarding some insurance mixup or something. Again, the guy is VERY sensitive when it comes to $$$.

Pros: Competent doctor, open schedule, convenient locations

Cons: Awful bedside manner, rude, etc.

.

I was considering using this doctor and scheduled my first appointment the evening prior to my visit. His schedule was pretty open -- which should have been warning sign in itself! The morning of my appointment, something unavoidable came up and I had to cancel. When I called to reschedule, the doctor picked up and I apologized for such a late cancellation notice. He informed me there was a 24 hour cancellation policy and proceeded to rudely question me as to why I was unable to make the visit. At the end of the "conversation," he told me his doctor's office was definitely not the place for me and hung up.

This man is clearly a rude, inconsiderate individual. I'm actually glad I had this experience with him as I now know why he has such a low ranking on this website and others. Based on his severe lack of phone etiquette and people skills, I can only imagine the poor bedside manner he must display.

Pros: Didn't have to waste my time seeing him

Cons: Rude!!!

.

This is what I've heard from the man everytime I've seen him for the past 5 years of my being his patient. In other words, he never recognizes me. Not that I see him too often, but there's not even a glint of recognition until we really go into my records/files. Even then, there's not even a "How've you been?" He has no bed side manner. If he's compassionate, he doesnt show it. He's fairly knowledgeable - I guess - if curtness equals knowledge. Go in with a list of questions, as he does try to shoo you out fairly quick - no banter, no chitchat, no small talk. All business, if curtness equals business.

I've been annoyed in the past when I've made appointments with him and ended up with a partner or medical student - and it's never fun explaining the same medical issue to one's doctor (over and over again) let alone some random medical student. The staff has seen some turnover in the past few years, so the uptown crew is pretty nice - if you are polite and nice to them. But Horowitz himself - you might as well go ahead with one of his revolving door of partner-doctors/med students.

(I would change doctor's but, honestly, his staff has been pretty helpful and responsive - even in a pinch)

My friend has been seeing Dr. Horowitz for years and loves him. I can tell he is a well informed doctor but that all gets negated by the staff and his attitude. I have never never seen such a horrible and uncaring staff. My last visit, I had made an appointment in January for February (3 weeks later is his only opening), and then they call me the day before to cancel but the next available appointment was another 3 weeks later. I show up in March and Dr. Horowitz wasn't there. I saw one of his colleagues and students and they didn't know what to do. So I made another appointment, which leads me into May and finally saw Dr. Horowitz. He didn't care to hear my complaints and sent me off with a referral for a new doctor. In the meantime, I needed a new prescription to be filled. Its now June, and I can't get it filled because Dr. Horowitz's staff states "we are very busy and we get to prior authorization prescriptions when we have time", which has been over 1 week now.
