Hot Spot is great because it really hits the, er, spot--the sweet spot of brunch, that is. If you're looking for an alternative to cheesy American-style brunch or greasy spoons but can't stand the "fancy breakfast" trend then Hot Spot may be for you. It's not super cheap but the prices are reasonable. None of the food is super duper fancy, but the food has a nice, thoughtful touch. It's also delicious. My favorite are the "Loganberry" pancakes (they're actually made with lingonberries), which they serve with a fresh fruit compote instead of syrup if you request it (and you should). The breakfast burrito and corned beef hash have also inspired devoted followings. The coffee is good. The only thing is that the service can be pretty indifferent and sometimes they run out of things. Also it's kind of overrun with hipsters. But whatever. I happen to find that the cheery decor and 80s movies on TV are just what I need on a weekend morning.
