My time at riverside.. I have read the reviews and no way does the L.client say she went back to the hot tub. She went looking for someone. I would not walk in the lobby in my robe but look in the back area too. You also state that a massage is not to be given on the back? When i get massage they go down my back and my ribcage is there as well. Sounds like you lashed out a tad. Yeah, cant please all but it didnt sound unreasonable after all you go for quiet and experience not to get upset. Maybe you could have helped instead of telling the customer see the desk when you leave. Thats customer care. Other services were fine. Manicure and pedi's are good. Lots of mixed reviews at this spa. The ramsey location is way better and thats why i prefer to go there.

I need to start like this: The Ramsey Facility is hands down an amazing experience from check in to check out. This review in no way should be used to reference that location. Not sure where Hackensack went wrong - but I consider it a completely different entity. From Check-In to Check-Out I was expecting the same level of service that I received at the Ramsey location numerous occasions before. The only reason I decided to go to the Hackensack site = closer to my home.Hackensack is the complete opposite. From beginning to end it was a mad rush to the end of the finish line. Check-in girl rattled something to me, hospitality girl continued rattling AT me... not once did I get the feeling of Serenity. Just quick, give me your name, move along, MOOOO and go to Hospitality desk. There I am curtly asked for my shoe size and I get flip-flops and a robe practically tossed AT me as I am told to go to a door on the left. No one walked me to the Locker room, no one instructed me on how to use the steam shower, or even told me about it... I didn't know about the Lockers/Keys Routine... or anything about what I was supposed to do. Basically put on my robe and flip flops and headed to the tranquility room. When I asked the hospitality girl where I could get my steam shower (which is PART of the service) I am told I only have 5 minutes and didn't have time to do it.Everyone waiting in the tranquility room pretty much looked like cattle waiting to be put out to pasture. No one really knew what was going on or what we were waiting for.Called by my masseuse and I must say - he was professional. The massage was a bit uneven and rushed but i did my best to relax and get as much out of it as possible.Afterwards I was shown the door without a further word as to what I was to do. I headed back to the tranquility room, had some water... some tea... an apple... and I guess showered up and got ready to go home. For the amount of money paid what was expected was:Gentler greeting/Check In experience. This is a SPA where people are looking to RELAX not experience the same hostility and aggressions that are OUTSIDE.Hospitality Person: Kindly ask for shoe size. Escort to locker room, explain Lockers/keys, inform about the steam shower... show dressing rooms, showers, etc... inform once ready to head to tranquility room and await masseuse. After massage: Be led to tranquility room and explain that person should drink water to flush toxins from system... free to have water, tea, light snack... and relax before heading back to locker room, at which point they are welcome to steam shower if so desired - or to shower and head home. All in all - this is a horrible reflection of what I know to be an AMAZING spa experience. The Fountain (Ramsey) should take their name back - it's being dragged through the proverbial mud.One Star for professionalism of masseuse. If he had the skills demonstrated at Ramsey, I would have given Two.

I had a very bad massage by a male at the Hackensack Fountain at Riverside. I don't remember the name, but the minute it started I could not wait for it to end. I was very cold the entire time (had goosebumps all over and was never asked if I was comfortable). I felt very rushed and the lighting was a little too bright for my liking. In addition, his hands were rough and he went way too fast in a skin irritating kind of way.

I have had about 3 massages my entire life and this was by far the absolute worse ever experienced.

What is more upsetting is I still tipped 20%. I am mad at myself for doing so because he will never know, but I have a hard time undertipping. I don't really know what the etiquette is on that.

I feel the massage is not worth 1 star. I give facility rating 2-3 stars. I have had other things done in the past at this place and they were okay. In my opinion, the Fountain at Riverside is run down and very outdated, which makes no sense because the prices are very high. The carpeting and design of the tranquility room (mainly the colors) are just old. You can tell the carpeting is very worn. I don't know when the facility last had a makeover. In addition, some of the services are not as top notch as I thought they would be. I will be looking around for other places to go to. As for massages, I think I will not get one for a very long time. It was that bad and I am really turned off to having one again.

I wasn't happy with them for the cost. I also felt I was very rushed. I have since found a day salon in River Edge that I'm very happy with.

I would not recommend The Fountain at Riverside, sorry folks.

So worth it. I used to go to Georgette Klinger on Madison Ave (pre-bankruptcy) and this is so much nicer. The steam room alone is worth the price of admission. I usually arrive about 1/2 hour early to steam, have my facial, massage, or other services and then steam again, take a nice hot shower and am set for the day. The tranquility room is very relaxing. My favorite time to go is early on a Sunday morning....

I just returned from a day of many services. I am most unhappy with the deep tissue massage and the hot tub. The hot tub was so hot that I left the tub to find someone to help me & cool the temperature but no one was around. My face and body got so hot and red that I got a throbbing headache, gotten ill and had to run to the bathroom as my body wanted to purge from the stress. I told the massage therapist Bill who was assigned to me for deep tissue when I got into the room and he told me to tell on my way out and some of his clients mentioned the too hot hot tub as well, he said it is becoming a more frequent problem. Massage: This guy bruised me. It was the most uncomfortable uneducated hand ever on me and I am most experienced with neuromuscular and deep tissue. Heavy slow rolling over my ribs lessened my air intake and I expressed my displeasure but he said he did not like deep tissue for himself because certain areas do not have enough muscle for it. Anatomy course would enlighten him that deep tissue treatment is used for deep tissue not mow over the clients whole body, bones, tendons and all with all your might! I was still headachy 4 hours later. Exiting, I told the manager about the hot tub. I only received $2 dollars off the hot tub cost and felt no real concern. Good: mani, pedi, cuisine. Maybe sweedish massage is better w/o tub.

This is a wonderful spa, though a bit pricey, mainly because of its location. Totally worth it though, for once-in-a-while splurge. Parking is a major problem on the weekends and needless to say, you definitely need an appointment, but they have lots of services to choose from - a simple pedicure to much much more. Totally worth the $$$$. Definitely try it out if you get a chance..

PROS: great service
CONS: parking, $$$$

This is a fantastic spa. They offer so many services.. from your normal manicures, pedicures, and massages, to other great packages. Located in the Riverside mall (downstairs) this is a very convenient place. I recently went for a manicure and pedicure and it was fantastic. i was completely pampered and it was wonderful. For me, this is a total splurge place- not something I can afford all that often. Because yes, unfortunately this place is a little expensive. It is a great place to give gift certificates to- either for a simple amount or for a specific service (the gift receiver can change what it is for). You must have an appointment for all services. The people are very nice and so welcoming. Great place!!
