We used Richard Whetzel's paving to pave our driveway in 2006. We have a very steep driveway, and he said he would have no problem paving it for us. We paid him $8000 (found out later that was about $2000 too much) . He never told us he wouldn't be paving it in the "usual and customary" way. They laid the asphalt, but instead of running a steam roller over it to compact it, they said the driveway was too steep for a roller, and the put flat metal plates on their shoes and just walked all over the driveway to "compact" it. (We found out later from another contractor that it is possible to use a steam roller, Whetzel just didn't have the right type of roller.)
We waited the required period of time, then tried to drive on it, when we started to go up, the tires spun on the asphalt like loose gravel and we couldn't get up. We tried several times. We called Whetzel and he blew us off. Several months later, my husband used car jacks to try to change his car oil in the driveway. He has a very light Hyundai accent. Instead of the car going up, the jacks sunk down, about an inch.
In addition to the terrible job he did, he also refused to accept a check made out to "Richard Whetzel Paving" as was printed on his invoice. His wife said that they could only accept cash, or a check made out to Richard Whetzel. We had to cancel the check and get him cash.

After several months of dissatisfaction, we contacted a lawyer, who sent him a letter. We got no response. We were going to sue, but then our lawyer discovered he already had numerous other judgements against him, and we would never get our money. SO we didn't waste more money on legal fees.
Two years later, our driveway has sunk in several places and we still can't get into our garage. We are finally having a reputable company redoing it this month.

PLEASE don't make the same mistake! This guy is a crook!!!
