I went to Lorelei first time in 2000, after a catastrofic encounter with a hairchopper from Super Cuts. As recommended by a friend, I made an appointment with Helmut. Needless to say- since then, I went ONLY to Helmut for a haircut. He is amazing. He has a very good eye for forms, colors. Beside, he was the only one who could give my eyebrows a decent shape. So, I would recommend him for both hair cuts and eyebrow contour. They have a very good manicurist - Elena.
It is a little pricey, but after my experience with the cheap ones... I think it is well worth it. One of my friends paid almost double to go to George's Salon (on Grove, same city), for the same services.
There is a very warm family feeling of the salon- if it happens to have to wait, there are cookies and coffee. It felt like going to visit a friend when I went to have a haircut. I moved this year to Seattle, and still look for someone like Helmut around here.
PROS: Helmut is the best, there is an old time family feeling of the salon
CONS: make your appt ONLY with Helmut for haircut (and Elena for manicure)
