I am kinda stuck in the middle on this hospital.
I have been dealing with them for many years and have had good and bad experiences. If you go through emergency, you usually have a VERY long wait in front of you. I have had my share of snobby nurses who are extremely rude.
I gave birth to all 3 of my kids at this hospital. With my first son everything was fine, I had a great nurse there for every shift, they were all really sweet. They were really good at helping me with pain management.
With my second son it was a nightmare.I was in the hospital all day and most of the night. my water broke early in the morning so they gave me patocine to kinda kick things into gear. I signed for the epidural early in the day, I knew I wanted it because my 1st son was 9 pounds 4 ounces so I needed something to help me deal with the pain of going through that again. when my labor started to be really really active I asked for the epidural, they said I'd have to wait because there were 3 people in front of me.. so I waited and waited and waited, hours passed and still nothing, I kept asking for something for pain, they gave me nothing. and still kept saying there were 3 people ahead of me. all night they were saying this. Finally it was too late and the baby was ready to come, there was one nurse in the room
I was telling her I feel him coming and its making me feel like I HAVE to push. I cant stop it something is making me push. she is telling me to wait, while she is writing in the little chart thing. The baby's head is right there and this lady is telling me to wait? well, I had my son with NO doc's in the room and just this ONE nurse who I guess didnt know what she was doing because she seen the baby and she is still telling me DONT PUSH. My husband had said something about this wasnt right and they should be introuble. The doc that was SUPPOSED to be in the room then came and threatened me, leaned over me and said,"And I WAS in the room, right?".not enough room 4 the rest

PROS: Some good apples
CONS: Some bad apples

When we had our last 2 children, we were in the Grand Rapids area. We had both children at the Spectrum Health - Downtown (Butterworth) campus. And we were VERY pleased each time with the care we received both from a mom's AND child's perspective.

We felt like everything was handled well, the rooms were immaculate, the staff was extremely helpful and friendly.

Both times they were enjoyable experiences for us as we opened up our hearts and lives to another member of our family.
