BURNHAM PARK ANIMAL HOSPITAL SHOULD BE SHUT DOWN!
MY STORY BEGINS MARCH 10TH AND ENDS ON MAY 3RD
Our 7 month old puppy fell off the sofa and broke his leg. The ER xrays showed it was a clean break and advised us to go to Burnham Park because there was an orthopedic surgeon within walking distance to our home. We took James to see Dr. Bruederle aka Dr. B. who examined the x-rays and said that yes it was a clean break and that he would be good as new!
BURNHAMS DR. JB BRUEDERLE AKA DR. B AND DR. LINNEA OLSON NEGLIGENT AND INCOMPETENT CARE
James had the cast the on for four weeks and did great, running around being a puppy. When Dr. Bruederle aka DR. B took the cast off with a dremel, he cut James so badly he needed 4 stitches. Then Dr. Bruederle aka Dr. B put the splint on, thats when James changed. He didnt want to play, eat, or walk. We called several times a week and went in always, saying the same thing that James didnt want to eat or walk. One week Dr. Bruederle aka Dr. B showed me the type of splint that James had. It was shaped like a J with a cup on the bottom. Dr. Bruederle aka Dr. B said thats why he wont walk, he took another x-ray and he assured us all was great. Then one week we saw Dr. Olson and she told us to put chicken soup in his food. Doctor Olson also told us we have to force James to walk and showed us how to put weight on his leg. Dr. Olson, YOU could have been our hero. You did nothing but look at the xray. James was right there, no examination, no checking the splint, what kind of care is this? We were also told to keep giving him pain killers and given extra pain pills. We complained and called and went into their office often and they kept reassuring us that all was well.
Finally after three long weeks we took James back to Dr. Bruederle aka Dr. B to have his splint removed. Dr. Bruederle aka Dr. B took James splint off while we were all in the same room. There was a raw part on his leg with blood and dried blood on his fur and Dr. Bruederle aka Dr. B said he might have an infection and shaved that part of his leg. Dr. Bruederle aka Dr. B gave us antibiotics said all was well come back in four days and see Dr. Miller. This uncaring, unprofessional, ignorant vet didnt have the courage to tell us that James skin was not viable nor did he have the heart or even a conscious to help James right then and there! He is a coward and should be stopped now! Four days later we saw Dr. Miller and he began to remove the bandage. He took one look at Jamess leg and said your dog is in excruciating pain! His skin is not viable, the splint cut off his circulation! I need to give him a morphine derivative shot and you need to go to Chicago Veterinary Emergency now for emergency amputation! Dr. Miller called and advised them we were coming and also called us a taxi. Dr. Adam Prink saw James and confirmed what Dr. Miller said that James skin was not viable and we need to schedule amputation for the next day. Everyone who we saw at Chicago Veterinary Emergency was absolutely sickened and horrified that this could have happened to a healthy puppy.
These Vets are a disgrace to their profession and deserve to be stripped of their medical license! Failing to properly inspect and diagnose issues with Jamess splint. Their negligence on instructing us to force James to exercise is a crime in itself. Dr. Bruederle aka Dr. B saw James leg and let him suffer for another four days. Dr.Bruederle aka Dr. B had the audacity to call us and leave a message that he was sorry to hear what happened to James and offered to do the amputation for free, but we would have to pay for anesthetic. Doctor Bruederle aka Dr. B and Doctor Linnea Olson are responsible for the loss of James front left leg. James has to jerk his head back to walk forward. Burnham Park Hospital are supposed to be healers not butchers. We brought in a healthy puppy for a simple casting and splint who suffered horrifically at their hands. I have used their names repeatedly so no one will ever forget!

My 11 year old Pug was attacked by another dog at a local dog park. It was traumatic for my Pug and me. The Vet, Dr. Thomas, was wonderful. He had a very soft, calming touch with my petrified little guy, and he listened to my concerns. We've had some excellent Vets over the years, but I have never seen another Vet work as well with my Pug as Dr. Thomas did. Plus, he did not sock it to us on the bill. The fee for the emergency service and medication was reasonable. Best of all my Pug is on the mend, and I am so grateful!

HORRIBBLE HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE @ BURNHAM. We took our dog to Burnham and had a nice doc a few times buut there is now a younger doc there that has no clue. We took her there and he just stood there listened to what we had to say...never touched her or actually examed her. She was misdiagnosed and the problem got worse because of it. We took her somewhere else and she was examed ande diagnosed properly. This other place we went to also said she was severly dehydrated and the Burnham doc should never had missed that. We wasted over $120 and the Burnham doc made her worse. HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORIBBLE HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE

You have to give 1 star to post....but they are not even worthy of 1 star!!!!For those of you like me, that think of your pets as your children, my experience with the staff at BPAH should deter you from ever patronizing! I have been paying their exorbitant fees & tolerating the nasty front desk staff since 1998!! Yesterday my dog suffered what I now know was a seizure. My dog has never been sick so imagine the fear that overtook me to find my dog convulsing, incoherent & unable to stand. I rushed out of my house carrying my limp & what I thought dying dog to arrive at my car to realize in my haste, I didn't have my keys!!! I jump into a cab, passing the dog clinic located on my block, to get to the place 10 blocks away that have known my dog since 1998! I called on the way to alert the vets of my crisis. Upon my arrival, the nasty receptionist says, you owe us from a previous visit. Shortly after visiting in January, my wallet was stolen which held my checkbook. I closed the account prior to their check clearing. I received one email and I thought my husband handled and he thought I handled.....clearly an over-site. But whatever, I'll handle it....we have a crisis NOW! They refused treatment and told me to go to the cash station on the corner. I ran to find it was out of order. I then jump in a cab, went home to retrieve my car keys, drive to the bank and arrive with the money....30 minutes later. The rude receptionist then says, there were fees leaving me $60 short. I said I would write a check or bring back cash....can we look at my dog? They refused and suggested I go somewhere else. WTF!!! Again I've been a client since 1998 and I have 2 dogs!!! I have always paid upon receiving treatment and I have recommended several clients....I'm a wonderful and loyal client and they turned me away with an extremely sick dog for $60 & the explanation of "its just our policy"!!!! I frantically drove to the clinic I passed & upon seeing the distress of both myself & my pet, the doctor took me in right way and began to access my dog. No discussion of money just how he could care for my pet. I am shocked and discussed with the lack of treatment, concern & care I received at BPAH. When I needed them the most, they weren't there!!! South Loop Animal Hospital has won my affection. They took excellent care of both me & my pet. The fees were fair and it was extremely clean & professional. They even called to make sure we were both ok today. I will NEVER trust BPAH again ....they just don't freakin' care!!! NEVER TRUST YOUR LOVING PETS TO THIS CARELESS...AND I DO MEAN THEY COULD CARE LESS PLACE!!!! Lastly, let me be specific....my dog walker, turned manager of the place Eric (all of 12 yrs of age (being facetious ) should be ashamed!! He was very callous! BTW They have never called to see if my dog was alive or dead.

Pros: Easy parking by meters

.

Dr. B seemed like a competent vet. He was friendly and worked well with my dog who can be a bit skittish at times. His staff was pleasant and helpful and they didn't keep me waiting too long. I got my appointment same day, same morning and they were pretty much ready for me when I got there. Eric, the vets assistant, seemed to genuinely care about my animal. They are expensive, but what in this town isn't? Now, $730 later, if my dog's health doesn't improve... you may see another post.

Fraud. In one word, that is this Dr. Bruederle's ("Dr. B") style. I brought my 2 year old small dog in because she was screaming everytime I touched her paw. The doctor charged me $500, put a cast on her foot and sent us off on our way.
(I never received a diagnosis when I picked her up, and they forgot to give me the pain medicine's so I had to leave work early one night to go back to pick those up.)
I then found out later that SHE NEVER HAD A BROKEN FOOT! The poor thing was stuck in a cast for weeks when she had just pulled out her toe nail. When I called later, the vet agreed that he "missed" that in the x-rays and doesn't remember counting the toe nails.
Did I get a refund for the $500? Absolutely not. He fraudulently charged me $500 for a pulled out toe nail, which 6 other vet's offices told me could've been cured with some soap and water and an anti-biotic.
If you'd like a misdiagnosis to up-charge you a few hundred $$$, certainly try out this vet.

Andy my Sheltie and I had just moved from Switzerland to Chicago, and we still needed to find a Doctor for Andy. We went to Burnham actually because it was close to home. Then shortly after our first visit Andy was viciously Attacted by a large dog. We went to Burnham the next day(he was in the hospital in the night) and Dr. Williams and staff went right to work on him. By the time it was all finished Andy had 3 surgeries, and 56 stiches around his neck. The Doctor told me he might not look the same, and he's right..Andy will never look the same, and will never be the same, as he once was before the attack. Every member of the staff was very supportive, they kept in close touch, even after it was finished. They even followed up with a sweet letter to both Andy and me.This was my first Angstliche moment Chicago, and they took tender care of Andy's needs, as well as mine. We give it an all paws up sign!

My dog (who is afraid of everything) loves going here. The people who work there are so nice and understand the needs of different dogs. I always feel that they put the animal's needs first without thinking of money. Very helpful advice is offered and they are flexible with payment plans if you need it.

PROS: Great Staff
CONS: Parking can be tough and not the best hours.
