I chose this place based on the recommendation of a friend, and hoping my picky lunch companion would be okay with Chinese food, as opposed to something frighteningly exotic like Vietnamese or Japanese.

The restaurant is very beautiful, and smells like freshly polished wood, which is gleaming everywhere. Other than the deep, loud thrumming noise coming from somewhere in the duct work, the ambiance was lovely.

My companion's food, green pepper beef with rice, was edible, if considerably over-salted. My food, rice noodles and tofu in a "smoky" sauce with nary a hint of a vegetable, was inedible, and that is RARE for me. The tofu was deep fried until there was only a thin shell of tofu crust over a grease filling. The noodles were texturally fine, but the "smoky" sauce tasted like straight up soy sauce. So basically what I attempted to eat, for a few bites, was a plate of noodles and crispy grease cubes stewed in brine. An hour later, after a queasy ride home, I'm still trying to get that taste out of my mouth. I let the waitress know the food was far too greasy to eat, and her solution was to have me order another item off the menu - and pay for both the initial order and the new order. I went the safe route and ordered a side of steamed broccoli, but would have appreciated a gesture like offering free steamed rice or the broccoli for no charge.

It's safe to say today's is the last meal I will ever attempt to consume at Lee Kan's. Now, where's my tongue scraper??

Pros: Lovely decor, attentive wait staff.

Cons: The Food

I was new and town, and had company visiting, so our intention was to pick up some Chinese take out and head on home after a long day of moving and unpacking.

Lee Kan's has a more formal and intimate feel in the dining area than we expected - it's quite lovely. The menu is great, and even still, they accomodated us with an off-the-menu combination. I would recommend Lee Kan's for a quiet dinner for two - a great "date night" experience.
