For my own review, the few times I've gone to check on the health of the animals there always appears to be something wrong, and all the manager does is put the animal into the back room, and if it's a mouse, he freezes them. The service at this Fairfax Petland is beyond awful, the staff is pushy when it comes to sales, but know very little about what they're selling.
If you care about animals, please don't support this place. I hope they either change their ways or are shut down because no animal should have to go through what Petland animals go through.
I went to MANY different pet stores in Northern VA to find just the right puppy for my family. I can honestly say that by far the cleanest, best groomed pet store in the area is Petland in Fairfax.
No, really. I can't stress enough how CLEAN the store is.
The habitats for all of their animals - puppies, guinea pigs, bunnies, birds, ferrets, even snakes - are VERY clean and well stocked with the essentials. All of their animals look very comfortable and all of their puppies are given a full health exam by a veterinarian before they are allowed to even be held by customers.
The employees are very helpful and knowledgeable, especially the manager who took the time to help me select the right breed for my family (and steer me away from the breeds that would have not been a good fit, even though the Pomeranian that I was looking at was much more expensive that the Cavalier King Charles I ended up taking home).
Their puppy prices are VERY competitive compared to other pet stores and every time I return to the store for supplies, the staff always asks about Charlie (my puppy). I also love the high quality, gourmet puppy and adult dog food they carry - both Solid Gold and Merrick brands. You can't find them in either Petsmart or Petco stores!
Lastly, their saltwater fish displays are OUT OF THIS WORLD. Their fish department has come a long way from when they first opened and their fish dept manager is an fresh and salwater expert. If you have a tank in trouble or want an exotic fish, the Petland staff can certainly help you out.
Whether you're looking to add a pet to your family, need animal related advice, or having trouble finding a pet product at other stores, go to the Fairfax Petland. 9 times out of 10, they can help.
BOYCOTT PETLAND! They get puppies from puppy mills. They call them ""reputable breeders,"" but that's their opinion of people who keep dogs in what a normal, caring person would consider disgusting, poor conditions. Check out the USDA inspection records of some of their breeders and you will see.You can find these at acissearch.aphis.usda.gov/LPASearch/faces/Warning.jspx \r
Do not buy anything at this store, ever. Adopt a homeless animal from a rescue group or a shelter and stay far, far away from this sickening place.
