This is regarding the online school, NFC Academy, which is owned by the same church, North Florida Baptist Church, that also owns North Florida Christian School. We had a terrible experience with NFC Academy. It is documented with the Better Business Bureau (BBB) in both FL (regarding NFC Academy) and in AZ (regarding Odysseyware, their tech support provider). The FL BBB gave NFC Academy a C- rating and the BBB in AZ gave Odysseyware an "F" rating due to both firms' gross mishandling of the situation.

While the elementary school and teachers are wonderful, from middle school on the academics are lousy. Teachers hand out good grades like candy so the parents stay happy and keep paying TUITION. The leadership of the church and school have no accountablilty to anyone and do not tolerate dissent- (ask the former football coach) The football and sports programs run the school and obviously the decision was made long ago to sacrifice academic achievement for sports. If your child is a superstar athlete they can get away with anything here. Fortunately if you don't have a computer your child won't need one here. It is sad that the biggest "Christian" school in town lacks excellence in academics but the sports idolatry runs rampant. Expect to be harassed for money constantly and your kids to be bribed to sell every fundraiser around but don't expect to know where all this money goes. RE-ENROLL!! RE-ENROLL!!!

My daughter attends this school and over the past 7 years, I have seen a lot of things, both good and bad. Some people mentioned the dress code, I have issues with it because it is a subjective dress code. Not every teacher makes every student responsible for following it. I agree with the poster about the discipline bias. There are students who have been asked to leave the school for some things whereas other students were allowed to stay for things I feel were just as bad.

There is not a perfect school, you will have issues with every school your child attends. What I find comforting about this school is the fact that I feel that most of the teachers are involved with the kids and are willing to help. I will be totally honest when I say that the communication is lacking between teachers/administrators and parents. I have sent many emails to have to make calls (more than 24 hours later) to get a response.

Overall, this is a good school and I am glad that I send my daughter there.

I attended North Florida Christian School for 6 years and graduated with the senior class of 2008. My first year at NFC I came to know Christ as my personal savior, and was blessed with many friends. But.... the law is only as powerful and as stable as those who enforce it. I have found that a good portion of the teachers at NFC are wonderful, caring individuals who I would be proud to be friends with in my post high school days. I have also found that the disciplinary system is flawed, inconsistent, and bias. I could go on for pages about how there is a student currently in NFC who was caught with 2 illegal knives on him after threatening the lives of over a dozen students. He only received academic probation, but hey I won't be sitting in front of him anymore, hopefully your child isn't either. Education is the same at any private or public school in the area. Saying you graduated from a private Christian school looks better on job applications. And the teachers are world class (apart from a few, but who hasn't had a crummy teacher before). I enjoyed my time at NFC, but I won't be sending my kids there.

I am a proud parent of a daughter who attends North Florida Christian School; this is an excellent institution for higher learning. She is currently in the 6th grade, and has benefited greatly from private schools, because before she went to the local rundown elementary school, which is the poorest school (academic wise) in Tallahassee. This school has a strict dressing code, which I feel is an excellent option. They also offer classes in theology that teaches our children the existence of a higher being. The teachers are very informative and work well with parents to teach their children. The teacher to student ratio is only 13:1!!!!!! though the tution is slightly high.

PROS:
CONS: high tutition

This school is a great school for all kids- k-12! They consistently test higher than ALL public schools in the state. They offer religion based teaching- but, not in the manner as to exclude all other thoughts. When teaching controversial matters- being a private school they are allowed to offer THEIR own views/ideas to the plate- I think this helps the kids in knowing that others believe in the big bang theory & what it consists of.
Though the church on the grounds is Baptist- the school serves children from every religion imaginable as well as many non-religious whose parents only want them to get a head start.
They offer preschool teaching/care as well.
I've always found the teachers to be the best- I can email my kids teachers at any given time & get a response. I also have their home numbers- which is a great comfort to me.

PROS: convenient, all grades in one area, high marks
CONS: strict dress codes (not pictures & such...)
