It's okay California-style sushi. Don't go here if you're looking for the real thing. Also, a lot of their rolls are fried and kind of greasy. However, the price for lunch can't be beat.

I always enjoy my Rusan's experience. The atmosphere is fun and loud. There are some good special sushi rolls - try the rock n roll. They have a great lunch buffet.

This was the first Ru San's location we went to, and we were always pleased by the choice of vegetarian sushi (no, that's not an oxymoron). Atmosphere is loud and fun.

Ru San's is my favorite sushi place. They have a great atmosphere either in their Midtown or Buckhead locations. It is always a fun time whenever I go, especially when sake bombs are involved. They have a special $1 menu, where you can get 3 pieces of various sushi for $1. I stick to that menu and order up a storm and always leave full and satisfied. Ru San's is an amazing place, go check it out for a great time.

My friend and I went to Ru-sans Monday around 5:30pm. It was raining out so business was slow. We both ordered an appetizer and a sushi roll. The waiter brought me my appetizer and roll. About 15 minutes later he brought my friend's appetizer. We waited about 25 more minutes and flagged our server dowwn to ask where the other sushi roll was. He said it was coming. Well, it neve came and I was finished w/ my meal. We asked for the check and for the missing roll to be taken off. 15 min later we got the check. Our waters sat empty the entire time and our waiter never checked on us once. If we needed anything we had to flag him down. It wasn't busy at all! I'm never going back.

Been here a few times and like their other locations it is so so. Generally pretty crowded and too loud. Food is ok, but prices are high and service is not real important to them. Seems like they figure they have enough notoriety service isn't all that important....

I'm sorry but this place needs to get a big makeover and quick.
I went to rusan's about a week ago and the sushi was warm. Now, I may not be a sushi pro but shouldn't sushi be atleast room temperature or cool to the touch?
But at Rusan's the sushi was warm and it felt really nauseating and uncomfortable to eat.
On top of that, they overcharged me.
I clearly wrote a 3 dollar tip for my 21 dollar bill and they charged my card 27.11. Where did the extra 3 dollars and 11 cents come from, who knows?! I did not leave any extra rice (some people on here mentioned that if you don't eat all the rice that comes with the sushi, they overcharge you so we made sure to eat EVERYTHING).
And I live now where near atlanta (around 30 minutes away ) so I'd be wasting money to drive all the way to Atlanta to argue with them.
I really hope karma gets back at them.

I ate at Ru'sans for 3 years, daily. I sat there with Ru Nakata-san and with Debbie, with Maxwell and Garcia. That was the opening crew, way back in 1993. I was the placeopening waiter.
I haven't got a bad meal there. I miss my customers. Now, I reside in Germany. I see and hear, the place has the god ol tradition of great food, combined with a little (funny) madness.

I recently got food poisoning from Rusans in buckhead. 3 of my friends and I all had 2 days of throwing up every 20 minutes and diarrhea non stop for 2 days. Worst pain i have ever been in. The fulton county health inspectors were called out to investigate and found certain foods were too old and not at correct temperatures . In addition 8 other reports were reported the same day for food poisoning at this same rusans. Food poisoning is the result of eating organisms or toxins in contaminated food. Most cases of food poisoning are from common bacteria such as Staphylococcus or E. coli . I WILL NEVER EAT SUSHI AGAIN IN MY LIFE . THIS PLACE IS NASTY AND NOT UP TO CODE ! seriously do not eat here . You may have eaten here before and not had any problems but all it takes is one time to get sick. please take what i say seriously and do not eat here. thank you

I gave this place (either location) 5 stars because for me it is one of the most enjoyable places to go grab a bite, and I always look forward to it. It is by far the most fun restaurant to eat in. And (hold your breath snobs), the sushi rules. Granted, I don't eat the traditional sushi here, when I want cold, raw, mostly flavorless fish, I eat it on business trips to San Francisco or New York. If I want food with awesome flavor and texture, this is the place.

I wouldn't even call it sushi, I'd call it Awesome Super Happy Funtime Fish. It tastes great, the atmosphere is very fun, and the proprietors are exceedingly gracious and hospitable.

I was born and raised in Japan so trust me...the sushi here is very average, with average neta (ingredients). Its okay for a quick bite to eat and the price is reasonable, but I wouldnt take anyone here for authentic sushi. Oh yeah, the rice is often undercooked and its not flavored as it should be. For authentic sushi try Sushi Yoko in Norcross.

After reading some of the not-so-complimentary reviews on here, I am shocked and appalled at the fact that Certain people have put this Wonderful Restaurant down. I take clients there all the time, and I have never had a bad experience. Ru San, the owner is a pleasant, generous, sweet man and a true artist both with a knife and a brush. I personally own 2 of his paintings and plan on getting more.

If you're not up for a party and you would rather sip your green tea in a quiet corner booth with a truncated, boring, "traditional" (not to mention tasteless!) raw fish menu, then by all means, keep your tight-assed self clear of Ru San's.

If, however, you love sushi with a ton of choices & twists in addition to other excellent non-raw Japanese cookin' - AND you like to actually PARTY!!! - Then, please, come on down & Step to The Ru!! :)

WOO-HOO!!

I come here every week for their all you can eat sushi buffett, I believe they stop at 2:00pm!~ It's features a wide array of choices as far as sushi and at $9 YUMMY... You need to find time and go in there for lunch!!! For those that don't eat sushi, they also have rice/ oriental chicken/ lo mein and assorted non-sushi food.

Dinner: Is a bit different, they don't have the bar but instead they have a sushi list the length of a football field to choose from.... I LOVE Ru Sans~

This is a loud atmosphere... always pleasant... always fresh!~ VERY TRENDY, without the price tag and designer* food.

Remember you have to order a sake BOMB!~ Oh and definately a fun place to go with friends on your birthday~

Took a date there who was from out of town. We discovered it cause we was trying to find our way home from Lenox Mall. Waiter was a little slow but made up for it. Sushi was yummy. Liver, gizzard and some other stuff on the stick was fantastic. Warm saki was delicious. Great location for city view. Patio seating too. Got some booty after eating here. =)

After being in Atlanta for nearly 2 years and being a fan of sushi, my friends were shocked that I had not been to RuSan's. Curious of the local favorite and the reason for all of the hype, I decided I'd try it for dinner. While I was impressed with the vast selection, I must say that the menu suffers from what I like to call Cheesecake Factory syndrome. Allow me to explain: so concerned with filling book-like menus, these restaurants list a multitude of items but never specialize in anything in particular. What they have in quantity, they sacrifice in quality. While on the subject of quality- never in my 10+ years of eating sushi have I seen a spicy tuna roll smothered with what appeared to be eel sauce. I sampled my friends' roll- thick brown sauce is a good way to visually mask unhealthy looking tuna but the taste was unforgivable. I've heard people rave about the value of the meal there, but my advice is to skip the third sake bomb and use the money to treat yourself to better quality sushi.

Ru San's was my first experience with sushi. I was immediately in love. Granted I get rolls that aren't very sushi-esque (tempura fried cream cheese anyone?), it's a great restaurant. I've since been to many other sushi places all over Atlanta and none can compare for value and variety. Most sushi places have an extremely limited menu, but not Ru San's! It's a little daunting at first, but if you're patient or ask your waiter (radical concept to other reviewers!), you can find what you want.

I find the staff very polite and helpful. I've never had a problem with service. I've gone with large groups, on a date, and just for a night out with some girlfriends. It does attract a lot of college kids (mostly GA Tech and GA State), so if you don't like rowdy groups, I wouldn't recommend it, especially late at night.

Well, the locals know that RuSan's lunchtime sushi buffet is the best deal in town. Ordering off the menu for dinner or lunch, or sampling some of the rolls at lunch, you'll taste some odd combinations on occasion. But that's what makes RuSan's experimentation fun. Love the sea bass yakatori too.

After reading several reviews for this long time favorite I felt compeled to write my own. While I admit this is not 5 star sushi it is great food. Sit at the sushi bar and enjoy the show as well as some extra samples you won't get at your table. This is where I learned to eat sushi it is my favorite. I can afford to eat it several times a week. I suggest Rising Sun Maki , Tuna Ahi Poke and the Tuna Tartar is excellent. Rusan's is your everyday Sushi and definately worth checking out!! The mid-day buffet is a great deal to. Have water and walk out with tip for under $15

SUSHI IS SO GROSS!!! It's not fresh at all! I used to love going there but after trying different places I realized that Rusans is a trick! Their prices are cheap so you get cheap food. But it is good for big crowds, I went once in a group of 26 and we had a great time, but the food is gross. Their sake menu is pretty good though.

I have been to Ru San's now two times and have decided never again. The sushi is below par, smothered in sauce, and basically thrown together. The sushi chefs ( guys) basically throw the food together. There is a huge menu but if anything it is extremely distracting and hard to find certain rolls. It took us two hours to recieve our sushi-> table of 3 on a wensday night and the one girl in our group who ordered hibachi recieved her food 20 minutes before us. I will never go there again. It may be cheap but the sushi is not very good.

Worst Sushi ever! Sushi is as much about presentation and atmosphere as is about the food, and RuSan's presentation and atmosphere were less than poor. We didn't get sick after eating our meals, so the fish wasn't spoiled. But, had we not been in a hurry and unfamiliar with Atlanta, we would have walked out immediately after being greeted by a Mexican host and waiter in a Sushi restaurant. Not recommended!

I've been going to Ru-Sans for a while now, at least a couple years on a semi-regular basis. I like it quite a bit. A lover of sushi, such as me, may love it, if they get past the fact that the sushi is cooked. Well at least some of it. There's the tradditional plain salmon, tuna, etc. kind of rolls, and then there is other kinds that aren't as traditional, an American twist on the old favorites. They could use less mayonaise-esque sauces, and tone some of the flavors down a bit. But some of it is just too good. I personally only go for the lunch buffet, getting all the kinds I can find, and loving a mojority of it all. There are even some non-sushi items, such as wings, rice, and dessert "poofs" (heh ^_^) . The music tops off the atmosphere, making it fun, edgy, and relaxing.... Well, except the loud parts. Hopefully Ru-Sans may either expand, or get more attentive dining staff. They tend to get forgetful during rushes upon rushes of customers. But when there's only five tables filled... It's heaven for the fun, casual diner, or even a four-teen year-old by him-or-her self.

Cons: Rush Hour=Noise and Lack of Service

Sushi is delicious and the atmosphere is all fun. We like to sit at the sushi bar and talk to the chefs. They usually make us something special for having fun with them. We have gone there with big parties but it is very noisy if you looking to have any meaningful conversations. I really enjoy it as a date place.

I've been to dozens of sushi restaurants in the Atlanta area, and this was the 2nd worst. Yechh!

The fish was not fresh, and the preparation was overkill. Instead of relying on fresh ingredients and simple presentation, the rolls were prepared with overpowering sauces, preventing the diner from enjoying the flavors of the primary ingredients. Many of the specialty rolls were prepared with gobs of mayonaise-based sauces, once again taking the focus away from the fish. It was as if the chefs were trying to provide sushi for people who don't really want a sushi experience. If authentic sushi is filet mignon, this pseudo-sushi was a Big-Mac . . . too eager to please, and ultimately, a shoddy imitation.

The wait was over 30 minutes (no big deal, it was a Saturday night and we didn't have a res.). The atmosphere is loud and boisterous, which I enjoyed, but others may not. The menu is overwhelmingly large, and our server, though very polite and effecient, spoke with such a thick accent it was difficult for both sides to communicate.

Not every sushi dinner needs to be MF Sushi, for for inexpensive and fresh sushi, you'd be much better to visit Yami Sushi or Sushi Avenue.

Sorry Ru-San, you Ru-suck.

Excellent presentation of a delicious variety of sushi delicacies! Great, fun atmosphere. Lots of good food and good times. And they have saki!

Pros: saki, sushi, fun

Cons: smoking is allowed : (

Perhaps not for the purists, Ru San's is consistently tasty and definitely the best sushi for the dollar in Atlanta. Huge menu. Yes, it's noisy when it's full, but that is part of the fun. Get a selection of sake shots and one of the ginormous combinations (Power Builder or Protein Bomb) and stuff yourself. Mmm, sushi.

Pros: Great sushi value

Cons: Quiet conversation impossible on busy nights

This is a great place to introduce yourself to a lot of different kinds of sushi. The value is reasonable and the sake list is good.

I liked the TVs, music and other cultural elements that come through with deafening noise but others thought the place was a little hard. That said, the one in my area, off Piedmont and Monroe needs more of a bar. The one at Lenox has a better bar and good patio space, although do you really want to look out on Piedmont?

I have been eating at RuSans pretty regularly over the past year or so and i LOVE LOVE LOVE it! The first few times i went for dinner and everything was wonderful and relatively inexpensive. But then...i went for the lunch buffett. Its all-you-can-eat anf its around $8.00. The nigiri on the buffett is always fresh and wonderul. While it can be crowded at lunch and sometimes its tough to get your server, i HIGHLY recommend it!

I went to RuSan's for the first time last weekend. I was impressed. They have a huge menu filled with delicious choices from sashimi to fried rolls filled with tempting ingredients. They also have entrees for the non-sushi people in your group. The service was speedy and friendly. And, the price is right. The atmosphere is a bit loud, so if you're looking for a quiet dining experience, it may not be the place for you. Although, if you go early i've heard it's not as boisterous.

If you are looking for some good and cheap sushi, RuSan's the place to go. Most of the time, I call in to place my order (about 4~6 servings) and they usually take about 15~20 minutes to prepare them. Usually when I get there they are all wrapped up and ready to go home with me :-). Yes, they are pretty Americanized, but if you are looking for traditional sushi you shouldn't be here (maybe a few blocks down the street). Yes, they are pretty loud. That's why I get my order to go. But, go during lunch time. They are not as loud.

Although the sushi was good, the whole experience was unpleasantly loud! When you walk in, waiters are yelling at you and, then, everytime anyone else walks in the waiters are yelling at them. I guess this is kindof "cute" for some folks, but the food was not so great for me that I would want to go back and sit through a whole meal of that. I could not hear anyone talking who was sitting at my table. We really had to shout! There are too many other really good sushi spots in Atl to go that are not so invasive.

i go to rusan's at least once a week. i have eaten sushi at almost all of atlanta's other big/popular sushi restaurants, but rusan's by ansley mall is my favorite. the sushi is inexpensive and good. the chicken fried rice is the best i've ever had. the atmosphere is very fun.

I have only been to the Buckhead location. The food is tasty and priced right, but EVERY SINGLE TIME I GO the service is piss-poor. It takes FOREVER to get your food, they forget items, they barely speak english and I go home wondering why I bother. The reason I go though is the food is quite yummy. I ought to drive down to the midtown location and give them one more chance.

I think the food quality is poor. The sushi don't taste fresh and sometimes they put so much stuff on the sushi you don't even know what you're eating. The wait staff can be slow and forgetful. Sure its cheap compared to other sushi resturants but thats only if you order the really basic stuff and basic sushi is no good unless its fresh.

The food is great. The lunch buffet has variety and is enough to be filling. It's not a romantic place, but it is a nice place to hang out, especially in the summer when its nice to sit outside.

This is the place to go if you are looking for pretty good sushi with a fun atmosphere! The staff welcomes each group with a "hardy hello" and goodbye on your way out the door. It is a perfect location to combine with a night at Buckhead. If you go, be sure to try the Sakae (spelling) bomb....not only is the drink fun but the presentation is a blast!! They also have a very reasonable priced "All you can eat" lunch buffet!! Not the place to go for a classy date but definitely the answer for something new, fun, and exciting! Two thumbs and a pinky!

Hardly the best sushi in atlanta, but it is affordable. They have some interesting and unique items. I like the "Punk Rock and Roll" (unagi, 2 kinds of fish eggs). The Calamari Tempura Roll is nice and simple, and something i haven't seen elsewhere.

The fish is usually pretty fresh, and it is a relatively fun place to go.

We used to go here all the time, but have since found a place that we like better for our regular sushi outings (Surin of Thailand or Taka, both in Buckhead).
