We have had several issues with this company. When we pointed out the problems with the construction it was never their fault or told us that was a common problem. When we refused to pay the final balance subpar construction they hired an attorney and placed a wrongful mechanics lien on our home. I tried to explain to the owner a percentage hold back is designed to ensure the work is completed satisfactorily but his understanding is that a hold back is due upon their definition of completion which is the pool has water in it.

Once water was in our pool we tried over and over to get them to come out and fix the issues. They would send someone but either issues would not fixed properly or issues where the job was not done correctly started surfacing. Its hard to pay someone when you are staring at a huge investment (for enjoyment and a life long dream) that has obvious problems. After they realized that we were standing firm with holding them accountable they hired an attorney to place the lien on the house then threaten foreclosure.

So now we have been forced to defend our home our livelihood and our professional reputations by hiring our own attorney to combat this illegal mechanics lien. I say illegal because in order to file a mechanics lien you have to be able to show proof of the amount owed and do it in a timely manner neither of which was done. Once it got to the point where the attorneys were involved the amount of monies they said we owed them suddenly jumped up significantly and the lien was placed for a much higher amount than we believe we owe based on signed contracts, addendums and receipts we were given and/or made copies of.

Also when dealing with this company if you chose to do so pay very close attention to the offer they present to you and the contract that you sign. There were numerous items that were different on the two. Most people are probably excited to be at the point in their lives where they can afford such a luxury as a pool and after looking at the offer don't pay as close to attention to detail as they should when signing the contract because you carefully go over the offer/bid and it looks great.

Things to look out for:
Number of items included on offer may be different than what is on the contract.
Be sure to ask for specific name brands of items being installed. You don't want to pay $150k + for a pool area and get the cheapest items made. This is done on small items just to save the company a few dollars such as pool lights. Make them go with high end not the cheap stuff I promise you won't be happy.

Also make sure that you ask as to what size pipes are being used for particular water features such as a spa. One way to cut cost for the company is to use smaller pipes and the highest rated pump for that size of pipe. If the pump cannot pump enough water to the spa you will not be happy at all.
Be sure to get a pump for each water feature and go with the correct size piping for that feature. I would recommend going up one size so you need a bigger pump not working as hard as a smaller pump working at is maximum capacity which is the most inefficient.

I have to say this about Austintatious Pools. They do not do anything but design the pools and service them. They did not employ anyone at the time of our construction to be onsite when various subcontractors were here doing their particular trade. I found it shocking that I had to be present to correct the subcontractors on subpar work and not a project manager onsite for at least the main parts of construction. Our "project manager" was a very nice lady who works in Mike's office and only visited our home when their attorney wanted us to point out the issues we believed to be the responsibility of the builder (his client).

There are so many pitfalls for building a pool that the average homeowner stands no chance against someone who knows the business inside and out. The equipment, the electrical, the piping, the excavation to the gun-nite. We did our homework for over a year before we decided to go with Austinatious pools. They talk a good game. Buyer Beware.

I have to disclose that I myself deal with contractors on a consistent basis being a real estate investor and have dealt with hundreds upon hundreds of them. I know about construction and how things should be done properly. Mike is a good salesman. I will leave it at that.

Please share this review with anyone you know considering buying a pool even if using a different pool company so that they might get an idea as to some of the tricks of the trade.

I wish there were an option for zero stars. Worst company I have ever encountered. When I tried to give them a chance to fix the problems their technicians caused to our pool, I was talked down to, disrespected, and completely insulted. Obviously the "owner" thinks he can intimidate people by raising his voice. I am rarely compelled to write a review, but if it saves you, reader, from going through what we've been through in the last 2 months, then it's worth it.

We were told our pool would be drained into the street. Instead, they flooded our back yard, our neighbor's back yard, and our neighbor's neighbor's back yard. Our trees have lost all of their leaves and are a grey color. When the pool was filled back up, "coincidentally" our Polaris cleaner is broken, our pump works at half power, and our Spa completely drains when we turn it on. What a nightmare this has been. Everyone except for Tamberly (co-owner and wife to the complete jerk) has been angry, defensive, evasive, DISHONEST, and needs a class in customer service. THEY LIE ON THIER WEBSITE...THEY ARE NOT BBB ACCREDITED. LOOK IT UP WITH THE BBB.

Do yourself a favor and call someone else. I truly feel bad for anyone who has to deal with these people. Don't just listen to me (and above all, don't listen to whatever "response" they post here as they are clearly not adverse to lying). Read the dozens of terrible reviews on Angie's, Yelp, Google, etc. I sure wish we had.

While their sales people seem nice the people they send out to do work seem to me to be day laborers they just picked up and there is no engineering support. They destroyed my pool on a simple skimmer repair as they cut through the concrete deck to replace the skimmer and then just poured concrete to fill the hole without adding rebar. Two years later the entire repair buckled. Their response? Its out of warranty.

Business Response:

It's unfortunate that all customers can't be satisfied...Such is the problem with 30 year old pools that were improperly built, and major structural concerns to contend with on a limited budget, and even after lengthy personal explanations of soils and conditions- our repair completed in 2009 was damaged by deck movement in last years historical drought despite our installation of proper products, concrete and expansion joint material designed to protect the replacement skimmer. Customer declined recommended deck replacement during original repair. We do not hire day laborers, our 8 dedicated "In-House" professionals in our construction/renovation have been with us for over 35 years total. We are proud of our work and our employees.

I called them to fix a leaky skimmer. In replacing it the cut throw th concrete ring and rebar supporting the pool but then just filled the hole with concrete, no rebar, didn't even float it. Two years later it buckled destroyed the

My name is John Kells with Advanced Art 101.com I taught Austintatious pools to build Artificial Rock with pre-cast panels (G.F.R.C.) This system is a mold off of a "real rock" not the hand carved kind that looks like it is "Fake" like you most often see in backyards. Bryan Thompson was in charge of the crew, and it was his second seminar with me. Bryan is very much an attention to detail guy that won't allow corners to be cut... I would recommend Bryan for your rock needs anytime, as he has that extra something that is needed in this industry. Take a look at www.advancedart101.com and I am sure that you will see the difference in work.Thank you Bryan for going that extra mile. ;)

I hired Austintatious / Longhorn Pools to take care of my swimming pool in the home my family recently bought. The service guy they sent did only a fraction of the work he was supposed to and the work he did was not correct; specifically, he used granulated chlorine instead of liquid and my pool has a cartridge filter which does not work with granules. Consequently my pool began to cloud. I asked the service tech why it was cloudy and he said that the filter needed to be cleaned and it should clear up. He then put more granules in. It stayed cloudy for weeks. I called to express concern and after several days they sent another guy out who determined that the first guy wasn't doing his job well. They made no offer to make it right and started to make excuses including that the service tech had a hole in his bucket and the liquid stuff has to come from Houston. I decided to take on the task of cleaning the filter and vacuuming myself and after three days of doing so an d running the pump on high 24/7 my pool is beginning to look clear again. I will have spent several hours and who knows how much on electricity to correct the mistreatment that was committed by Longhorn / Austintatious Pools.

Business Response:

This is actually for our Service Department of Longhorn Pool Service, but we service over 400 pools in Central Texas per week, do 3-10 Drain and Cleans during the Live Oak Bloom drop, and if a client does not wish to replace an ineffective filter- we cannot make them. Cartridge filter manufacturers like to recommend filters be replaced every year. IF a pleated cartridge filter is properly maintained, and de-greased and acid washed a few times per year- then 3-5 years can be expected. We do not recommend cartridge filters due to the fact they get "overwhelmed" with Live Oak Blooms, and the type of filter has nothing to do with the effectiveness of granular chlorine- we prefer liquid Chlorine (10% chlorine) on a weekly basis, but sometimes ya gotta bring out the big guns (Tri-chlor 98%) This clients water would have cleared up overnight with a properly working filter.

Our experience with Austintatious pools was a nightmare form the beginning. It took 5 months to build our pool. We were given a 6 week build time. We had to constantly monitor/babysit them. They kept trying to cut corners and we kept catching them. When ever a problem arose instead of recognizing it and apologizing, they would all lie and cover each others ###! I would never recommend this company!

the old saying is true. I wanted to say that after having almost 2 years of planning, and over 5 estimates in that time, the pool company we chose, austintacious pools, is the best. we didn't get anything really fancy, but the kind of job that was done for us was so much better than the jobs we saw being built in the backyard behind us and our good friends, and neighbors next door. my only complaint is that the ozone system that was installed had a few malfunctions on it, and seems sketchy, but the longhorn service company has been out here three times, and finally replace it with a new model, so no fault of theirs. 4.5 out of 5, but I'll round up for the stars. thanks for doing such a great job for us, and we'll be telling our friends about you too. ;-)

Doing the right thing is not common like it used to be, sad but true. I wanted to find a pool builder that did the right thing when they built my pool and i cant say enough good stuff about them. They were not perfect, but they did the right thing and always worked toward a solution to make me happy. Im very happy with the work and the company.

just in time for summer too! my only concern through the whole build was the time. the pool took about 10 days longer than we wanted, but on the other hand, i really got my moneys worth with the final product. call me for a reference anytime.

That summer was brutal and I appreciate that 10 days is a loooooong time when its 100 degrees! you did your homework and saw the difference in Quality that we at Austintatious built our reputation on.There IS a difference that 28 years in business proves, we will never be "the cheapest" ,You get what you pay for & You DON'T get what you DON'T pay for!!

we shopped around quite a bit before we bought the pool, and we're very happy with the results. I would reccomend austintatious pools to anybody in the austin area who wants to build a pool. -r. dean

austintatious pools did everything that they said they were going to do when building the pool. after hearing all sorts of horror stories, we were glad to see that the company we selected was an excellent choice after all. attention to detail makes everything go smoothly, and ended up giving us a gorgeous pool scape. thanks :-)

I should say first off that I'm not a construction guru of any sort, but I know great quality when I see it. We had 5 different contractors out to give a bid on building us a pool this past spring. We were pleasantly surprised to find out that Austintatious Pools not only offered, BUT DELIVERED a truley amazing pool! We love our beautiful pool and reccomend that anyone shopping for a higher quality pool consider these guys. Thanks for everything!

Things were very professional throughout the whole project until the end. Apparently a superintendent was released, and as the torch was passed, a little communication difficulties arose. Once the issues were brought to the attention of the construction mgr, the problems were resolved and the pool was speedily completed. All around great work. Craftsmanship and artistry were the best my family has had out of our 4 different pools. We would definitely recommend Austintatious Pools, or Longhorn Pool Service to anyone!

We love our pool but after 3 years and 21 service calls we can't get this builder to back up their word. They promised a hassle free pool but our pump constantly runs dry, one of their engineers told us it had been placed to far from the pool and on too high of a slope, the owner has since denied that is correct but has never had the courage to visit the site They did try a number of times to solve the problem by "sealing" the system, I give them credit. The original staff that designed it has been fired but they have not made it right. Since they have said they refuse to come look at the problem without billing us for visits. Nice huh.
