It was the first time going to Colorado and the family wanted drive up to Pikes peak. We decided to turn around after only making it to the 10Th marker up, but then decided to go for it. I was so glad we did. We made it to the top although the few was not all that great because of the fog it was still a great experience. I would do it again... also coming down was a lot easier then going up. What a great adventure.

Well I will probably be against the curve here saying this but although the staff, help, other tourists were ok, we drove to the top! NOT A SMART CHOICE. As as this height altitude sickness is pretty much a given for the majority of people. They can not have carbonated drinks on top of the peak as they will explode and all the drinks we took with us exploded in our car. Not to mention all the people we took with us also were sick in the car. We spent forever driving to the top to view the races they do every year, and we were stuck on top till the racers finished. AND IT WAS HELL! Very limited food supplies up on the top or they just don't serve much. They did have great souvenirs and a MOST AMAZING VIEW! But i would not recommend this place for kids, spent whole time worrying about them getting to close to edges and falling off somewhere, spent the entire trip sick as dogs, supplies limited on top made the sick part even rougher. JUST NOT THE PLACE FOR A FAMILY VACATION IN MY OPINION! Nice to say you've seen it and been to the top, but the cost is high!

...Katharine Lee Bates wrote "America, the Beautiful" after visiting here. The view is simply breathtaking! There's also some wildlife here that you may not get the chance to see elsewhere, like the Yellow-bellied MArmot (aka whistle pig). I can't recall the name of it, but there's a lake nestled up inside the mountains- a beutiful site with the colorful mountains as the backdrop!
