5 Stars: Great french dipped sandwitches (by Patrick H.)

This place has been around for a long time. The french dipped sandwiches are terrific. You can get lamb, turkey, beef, and they are all great. It gets crowed during lunch hour. Lots of people from downtown go for lunch. The lemonade is good and so is the potato salad and cole slaw. I would recommend this to everyone!

5 Stars: Best French Dip of Your Life (by G. V.)

For realm the best French dip of your life. Good side items, all served a la carte at prices that are so low you'll do a double take. Also, wines by the glass at unreal prices, though I am not sure who's enjoying a glass of Silver Oak with their sandwich, it's possible. Iced tea is maybe 40 cents. You wait in long lines to be served by counter girls who have worked their for decades. It's L.A. history alive before your eyes and you will never have been anywhere like it before or since.

4 Stars: I like this place (by c t.)

I like coming here once in a while. I like their sandwiches. The last time i came here they had a pickled egg and pig feet jar i thought it was fun to sit in front or by the counter eating your sandwich and stare at the weird items. I haven't been there lately so i don't know exactly how it is now. But i still remember their good sandwiches. I will be stopping by this place when i make a trip to chinatown this weekend.

5 Stars: My Most Favorite Hole in the Wall Place (by Diana A.)

Sawdust on floor. Shared tables. Long waits. 9 cents coffee. If this is not a heaven, think of juicy french dip lamp sandwich. Double dipped. With extra cheese...Yes, now we're talking:)

Phillipe's The original catesrs roast beef, pork and lamb sanwiches, salads, as well as beer, pretty decent list of wines and abovementioned 9 cents coffee. There are many more menu items available, but sandwiches made this place famous so they are the best bet.

PROS: absolutely amazing atmoshpere and great cheap food
CONS: long waits

5 Stars: How am I the only review so far? (by Brooklyn S.)

This place is world class! Maybe the environment is noisy, crowded, not all that clean...but oh their french dip sandwiches! They are amazing! This place is known around LA as the best french dip place ever. The lines are usually long, but that just goes to show how amazing the food is. They have other items on the menu and a variety of sandwiches, but once in your life, you have to try a french dip. It doesn't even have to be beef...it can be pork, ham, lamb, or turkey. And it costs you under $5...for the best sandwich of your life, it's a great deal. You won't regret it!
