I have been a client of Rice Village Animal Hospital for over a year, and in that time I have been very pleased with the quality of veterinary medicine by Dr Kuo and Dr Luper. I was recently there with my dog for urinary issues and she is much better! Would highly recommend this hospital!

My fiancee and I adopted a puppy from the SPCA and took her to Rice Animal Village after several days of adoption, she developed what seemed to be kennel cough. After three visits and almost $700 later, the vet had given her two treatments of antibiotics and she seemed to worsen-- she stopped eating and drinking, had persistent coughing, and was very sick. When I took here back for yet another visit Dr. Kuo sent me home with nothing and said that the pulmonary symptoms were likely due to irritants in the household (incense, aerosols, air fresheners etc) . We had also asked to check for mange and she had scraped the wrong part of the dog, instead of doing scrapings on the missing patch of hair, she scraped a scar and charged me and extra $50 for a fungal culture (it did not look like ringworm at all). I brought her back and made them scrape the missing patch of hair and found mange. They did not refund me my $50. Finally, on the brink of death we took our puppy to another veterinary hospital after she became so sick. She was then correctly diagnosed with distemper (in 1 visit) and required 2 weeks of hospitalization (IV fluids, vaporizer treatment, and antibiotics) and almost died. Needless to say do not take your pets to these incompetent people who seriously overcharge for their lack of skill.

Pros: None

Cons: Very expensive for lack of competency

I took my dog, Toby, there for a dog bite wound. The doctors were extremely caring, and after our visit Toby is all better! I will be taking my other dog there, and would recommend them!

I have to say that when i first found this place I was a little intimidated by the location, but found out that they were great. I did some research about aaha and have to admit that it is very impressive when a hospital can meet their standards. Which they are an aaha hospital! I felt very comfortable with the dr's especially the staff. The receptionists were very friendly and helpful and treated my little one like she was one of theirs. I asked about what kind of flea products were in the market and they were very knowledgable and were able to give me prices. In regards to the whole "crooks" situation I think that's rediculous. My friend also takes her little puppy there and never complains. She always tells me that they are very good at giving her an estimate if she asks for it, and that the staff goes over everything and calls to get permission before doing anything. All I hear are compliments about the new Dr's and that they are very experienced. So I doubt they robbed anybody!!! I will definitely go back !

We are first time dog owners and the staff at Rice Village Animal Hospital is fabulous! We adopted a 3 year old boxer from the Humane Society and found RVAH because they do wellness check-ups for the Humane Society adoptees. The care and compassion we received on our first visit caused us to make them our regular vet. We've had our fair share of mishaps in the first six months of dog ownership (tummy upset, sprained paw, swallowed a bone someone else gave him, and weight issues) and Dr. Luper, Dr. Khou and the entire staff have been wonderful. They ALWAYS take our calls, are patient in answering our sometimes foolish questions and give honest advice (don't need to bring him in, keep an eye on him, nothing to worry about, bring him in right away). They also give follow-up calls when there has been an issue. All of my friends who use RVAH also love them.

This place is great! Not only is this hospital in a very convenient location right in the heart of the neighborhood next to Rice University but the doctors are so caring and compassionate when it comes to patient care. Dr. Luper is an excellent doctor and she is great at communicating with her clients. The rest of the staff is so friendly - as soon as you walk in you feel invited and comfortable. Even if they are super busy they still take a moment to greet you and welcome you in. The doctor's assistant I had was also very nice and had no problem with my little rascal who can be quite a handful for most people. I am quite satisfied with Rice Village Animal Hospital and I will definitely keep taking my pup there.

I was new to the area and was having a hard time deciding on a animal hospital for my dog. I had heard that Rice Village had been in business for 30 years and that says they must be doing something right. When I called to set up my appt the receptionist was very friendly and took the time to answer all of my questions. When I arrived at the hospital both receptionists greeted me with smiles and were very friendly. I was seen on time and met Dr. Kuo who is new to the hospital. She was very sweet and informative clearly explained her recommendations and costs. I am so happy to have found such a great hospital where the staff are very friendly and want whats best for my pet. I would definitely recommend Rice Village Animal Hospital!!

I am so pleased with the new staff at Rice Village Animal Hospital. When they told me the previous vet I saw was no longer there, I was hesitant to see Dr. Luper at first. She told me that my poor little kitty Grizzly had bad teeth that needed to be pulled. She had broken teeth that had been that way for 2 or 3 years, but I was never told they needed to be pulled. I was afraid of the anesthesia that would have to be used since Grizzly is 13 years old. But Dr. Luper explained that they do blood work and a heart exam before surgery and that special anesthesia and monitoring are used for the procedure. Grizzly had never had problems eating so I was still hesitant to schedule the dental procedure. The receptionist reassured me and gave me a list describing the special care that a patient receives for any anesthesia procedure at RVAH. So I decided to do it. The day of the procedure, one of the receptionists (Noelle I think) told me they would take care of my girl and again reassured me she would be fine. Sharon, Dr. Luper??s technician, called me immediately after the dental and said Grizzly did great. I was so relieved to have that phone call. Dr. Luper told me she had huge cavities in several teeth and one broken one that were all pulled and the rest were cleaned. Now I can see how much those bad teeth affected Grizzly. She is much more active and playful like a kitten again. I never thought that the teeth were bothering her since she still ate. I??m so glad that Dr. Luper convinced me to get the dental and I??m impressed by the caring of the entire staff. I can??t thank them enough!

The assistant took my 11 week old puppy to another room, and they took her temperature. She cried loudly, twice, and when they brought her back and left the room, a drop a blood fell out of her bottom. I asked the vet about it, and he said the blood was dried up from someone else. I said I saw it fall out of her bottom. She didn't cry when she got the shot they gave her. Obviously I'm not taking her back there, and wouldn't recommend them, espcially at the prices they charge I would expect more.

I highly recommend Dr. Wilkie at Rice Village Animal Hospital. My precious dog used to get sick occasionally and I took him there many times. They always treated both of us with great concern and good care. If you are in need of a good vet, conveniently located on Rice Blvd., this is the place. I am thankful for all of their help.
