.

Elkridge Love Mission is the new name for the old Elkridge Food Pantry, Clothes Closet, and Community Garden.

On the 2nd and 4th Fridays of the month, needy local residents can get food and clothing with no questions asked.

Unlike other food pantries, ELM does accept and distribute perishables (butter, milk, OJ, etc.).

ELM accepts dropoff donations (NON PERISHABLE PLEASE!) at Grace Episcopal Church, the Hess gas station on Rte. 1, or inside the Volleyball House on Furnace Avenue. You can also call or email to arrange a dropoff.

Using couponing techniques I learned at freelancebyu.com, I have been able to make donations by the bagful at little or no cost to myself. Although donations are not tax-deductible, I prefer to make donations right here in my own neighborhood to help my own neighbors. I have heard that donations made to regional "umbrella" organizations (you know, the ones who periodically have the boy scouts or USPS make pickups from your porch) are sometimes SOLD(!) back to the local distribution sites such as ELM. I'd rather visit a dropoff box or make a trip to the distribution site to make sure my donation gets to those who need it, with a minimum of bureaucracy!
