I was charged DOUBLE by Newberry Road Imports of what the KIA dealer would have charged me.I found out too late that the Kia dealer charges $600. for brake jobs, ( $200 parts and $400 labor, 4hrs @ $100 an hr. Newberry Road Imports was recommended to me as being VERY HONEST so I never shopped around and got 3 estimates the way I usually do. Newberry Imports had my van for 7 days @ 10 hours of labor and replaced 6 brake lines. James, "Their service technician", said I also needed brake pads as mine were thin. He said that would cost $235. as "they" also turn the drums when they put on new pads. I said O. K. I drove out of their business parking lot at 3 P.M. on a Friday on to Newberry road. I almost had a wreck under I 75 over pass because of SOFT BRAKES, couldn't pump up the peddle. I returned my van to "them" to fix it right. Their mechanic told me He didn't think my brake drums had been turned. The total bill to me was $1,375.35. Plus "they charged me *** a $5.00 fee. On their bill to me, *** states The State of Florida requests a $1.50 fee to be collected for each new tire sold in the state and a $1.75 fee to be collected for each new or re manufactured battery sold in the state. I bought neither and ask AMY, the person collecting the money, for that $5.00 back and she told me NO.!! AMY said that $5.00 is a shop fee and EVERYONE PAYS IT. The place on their bill ** for shop supplies had no dollar amount. So, do "they charge everyone $5 and then keep it themselves, instead of sending it to The State of Florida? The person that recommended this shop said Newberry Imports are very honest. I found out THEY ARE NOT HONEST and are even fraudulent by charging me $5.00 in the name of The State of FLORIDA. Some repairs they know how to do. Some they don't. Don't trust Newberry Road Import mechanics WITH YOUR LIFE. I ask James why "they" charged me almost double of what the dealer would have charged me? Was it because I am a single, female, senior citizen? And he thought I had no male to look out for me? He said NO, that's not it. James went on to tell me that one time "they" did a repair job for some one and that person came back and said you didn't fix the problem, so do it again right this time. Jame said "they" worked on his auto again and spent 3 hours of their time. And then James said that Fat Foo told him that was not going to happen to HIM again. So that is why I guess "they" charge DOUBLE for encase they have to do the repair over again, "they already have the money up front. Newberry Road Imports guarantees their repairs BUT you pay double first. From what I understand ALL repair shops guarantee their work and one doesn't have to pay double.

It didn't take rocket scientist to realize that this shop was a well run and well synchronized machine, everyone had a job to do and everyone was busy completing their assigned duties, it reminded me of the past when mechanic shops did this kind of service as a normal routine of customer service, the highlight of my day was when I had the honor of meeting Mr. Phat Phu the owner of Newberry Road Imports who by the way was working on my vehicle too, no sitting around in the office for this owner, he was out there doing his part.
Friends what a true honor it was to meet the owner of this shop, not only was this unassuming asian man the owner of this great running shop but also is a United States Viet Nam Veteran who fought out his heart for this country and came to this country not speaking the language, Mr. Phat Phu humbly told me his story of coming to this country and how he was wholly accepted by his new American friends and how they helped him become successful. Mr. Phat Phu told me he wants his legacy to be understood of how he gave back to his community and the people of this great land in respects of how good Americans treated him and gave to him when he had nothing. Mr. Phat Phu is a great American who personifies the idea of achieving the Great American Dream by becoming educated and working extremely hard to become a viable member of American society. As a United States Veteran myself and after engaging Mr. Phat Phu in conversation was a most humbling experience to say the least, you can tell after just a few minutes that your talking to an extremely honorable and proud American who loves this great country, and all I can say is Mr. Phat Phu operates a great mechanics shop and is dedicated to providing excellence in customer service, Newberry Road Imports operates on the premise of providing great customer service and they invest in great mechanics from all automotive brand sectors; European, German, Italian, American, Etc. Mr Phat Phu believes in treating his customers with great respect and their automobiles like their his own.
I don't know about the general public and their understanding of how a business like this turns a profit, but I can say this; Mr. Phat Phu and Newberry Road Imports is the new place that i will be taking my 2006 Dodge Dakota, my initial experience with this business is one of Admiration, Honor, Trust and Respect.
If you are looking for a Mechanics Shop that truly cares about you as a valued customer and provides your vehicle with the absolute best in Automobile Service then Newberry Road Imports is the place for you and your automobile.
However if your looking for a place that cuts corners and hires the cheapest mechanics, operates on a shoestring and offers the absolute lowest rock bottom price for their services and runs their business straight off the P&L (Profit and Loss Statement) then Newberry Road Imports is not for you, go ahead and take your car to Midis Muffler.

Love this place always take care of me regardless!! The owner is Asian and he make sure you get treated right!! He gave me a first time customer discount and I didn't ask for it. I'm really tired of all these people below typing negative reviews about this place..
First off, why are you people crying about a $40 dollars check out fee?
Did you expect them to look at your car for free? Would you work for free? I don't think so, so don't expect professional mechanics to look at your car for free. The sign outside stated " Newberry Road Imports " , not freaking " Free Auto Repair " !!

To the people never been here, Highly recommended !!
They are very honest and good at what they do. I have many friends and family members that been going here for years.

I took my hyundai accent here for a simple oil change. I told them the oil weight was 5w30. After over an hour and a half of waiting they said my car was done (come on I'm the only one there and it took an hour and a half to change oil). I paid for the service then got into my car. I noticed by the sticker they put 10w30 in. I went back inside to tell them how they messed up. The man at the desk replied, "10w30 is all we ever carry."

What kind of a place calls themselves "Imports" but doesn't carry any type of oil but 10w30. I asked for my money back because the car's warranty requires the correct oil to be used. They refused. I had to pay for another oil change the same day at wall-mart to get the right oil.

Horrible auto service, horrible customer service, horrible everything.

If you value your car or your time, stay away from these scam artists.

I've taken not one but 4 cars to Newberry Road Imports. Every single time they've been not only professional, but fast and extremely friendly. They work with you to find the right parts for the least expensive price...they also give you feedback on what needs to be done on the car and how pressing it really is.

A friend of mine who ran a VW dealership recommended them. I was skeptical at first due to their weird location and everything. Upon talking cars with them (I'm a big petrol head) it became clear they were honest.

Furthermore each and every time I've had some work done it's been 100% perfect. The crew there are my mechanics and I recommend them to anyone who has an import or domestic...they're aces.

I agree with any & all negative comments about Newberry Imports! They are a rip off! Stay away!!! Someone that I know recommended them, so I tried them despite ALL of the negative reviews online.

Well? my experience was nothing but bad.

SHORT VERSION:
I took my car in to get an alignment and to fix the A/C blower. Not only did they NOT fix either, but they charged me that infamous $40 diagnostic fee for doing NOTHING!

COMPLETE VERSION:
I called on a Wednesday to see if I could bring my car to have an alignment and to fix the A/C blower. They told me to make an appointment for the following Monday, so that they could be sure to have the necessary parts. And they told me to be there at 8 am sharp to ensure that a mechanic could take a look at the car and so that I would be taken care of first.

When I showed up at 8 am (and I am NOT a morning person) on that Monday, there was no one in the office. Eventually, a young man came in to help me. When I asked some questions, he told me that he didn??t really work at the shop; he worked at the gas station next door and would sometimes pop in to help out.

When I asked to speak with a mechanic, I was told that none were available! Plus, nothing was mentioned AT ALL on the phone or when I dropped off the car about a diagnostic fee. Since I read about others getting screwed by this scam, I made of point of asking; only then was the fee mentioned and confirmed.

At this point, my car was there and I needed the work done, so I decided to give them the benefit of a doubt. Hours and hours went by without hearing from them!! Around 4 pm, I gave them a call to check on the status. Their response was uhhh? a mechanic is working on it right now (translated ??they didn??t do anything until I called)! What was the point of making an appointment or bringing it in so early?!?!

I gave them an hour or two then called again. I asked if the problems were fixed. They said NO. In fact, they didn??t do the alignment and didn??t even check the A/C blower. The man explained that if they took the A/C blower apart, they might not have the correct part to fix it. (Then why did they tell me that they would prepare for this last week?)

I was furious at this point AND needed the car for an evening appointment. My wife dropped me off to pick it up. Their excuse for not fixing it was LAME and despite my protest they did indeed charge me their $40 diagnostic fee!!!!!

The next weekend, I took the car to the dealership an hour away in Ocala. While the alignment was the standard fee, there was absolutely NO diagnostic fee to check the blower. In fact, they pulled it out and showed me all of the leaves & pine needles that were clogging the fan. AND they only charged $48 to fix it (clean it out)!!! WHY DIDN??T NEWBERRY IMPORTS DO THIS? PLUS, THE HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP ONLY TOOK 1 1/2 HOURS TOTAL!!!!!! Great experience ?? Jenkins Hyundai in Ocala! And extremely POOR experience Newberry Imports.

I SUGGEST THAT YOU STAY AWAY!!!

Been going here for years... Great service, great people, great experience everytime!! Don't have $40.00 dollars to get your car look at, this is not the place for you. Ask a lot of question first before you come, it's a smart thing to do period.

I pulled in late one night to have my oil changed, and they not only did it just as they were closing, but I had a nice time shooting the breeze with the owner and his family. Then, I took my car back because the a/c wasn't cooling properly. They could have given it a freon shot and charged me $$$, but instead the problem was just a tiny quick fix (that I completely missed) and they charged me *nothing*. They are GREAT

This place is not very good, I'd recommend avoiding it strongly. They might be great for cheap oil changes, but don't do anything else there.

Mr. Phu and his employees/mechanics are absolutely fantastic. I've never written a review for anyone, but I've always been so satisfied with the services/repairs I've received from Newberry Road Imports that I feel they deserve another good review. This is the most honest car repair shop I have ever been to; they are very honest about repairs and don't charge for services/repairs that aren't necessary. I recommend this place to all of my friends, and it's the only place I go to any more.

I've never before been compelled to write an online review for any product or, in this case, service, but I feel as though Newberry Road Imports absolutely deserves the highest praise; the good word needs to be spread. Phat Phu and his employees treated me with genuine kindness and respect, were totally straightforward with me and didn't at all make me feel like I was being hassled or "sold" anything I didn't really need. Furthermore, they fixed my car (a 1997 Mercedes Benz S420) for about half of what it would've cost at the Mercedes dealership here. I'm a graduate student at UF and that was the first time I've had to get car work done in Gainesville, which I was dreading because nearly every mechanic I've ever dealt with---other than my family's long-time mechanic in Dallas, TX, and the only one my family (parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins) trusts---has seemed more or less shady and, in varying degrees, full of bologna. This is certainly not the case with Phat Phu's place. I highly recommend them without any reservation whatsoever.

(Suffice it to say, the people who've written negative reviews of this place, as any moderately intelligent person may surmise after reading their bad experience stories, seem to be generally "difficult" people/consumers to deal with under any circumstances, but especially in terms of auto repair, which is a common source of stress/anxiety/second-guessing for most people.)

INCREDIBLE service!! I've never felt more assured I was in good (auto repair) hands till I brought my car to Newberry Road Imports for an oil change. I couldn't remember if I needed to get my tires rotated and upon inspection, the mechanic relayed to the owner, Phat Phu, that it wasn't necessary. The owner is indearing and literally lives the American dream...he and his entire family are an inspiration to me. Thank God for this 'auto repair Angel' :)

I'm new in town with a 5 month old baby girl. On Wed Aug 18, 2010 I was out near the Oaks Mall shopping with my daughter. When I came out to my car, it would not start (not the battery, radio,a/c, etc still came on) but it would just turn over with brake and abs lights on (which has been going on for more than 2 yrs). I had my sister come get us and she tried but it still would not start. She then called AAA and the tow truck guy recommended Newberry Road Imports. Since it was late in the day (past 6pm) he left the car there with my info and cell # for them to take a look at it in the morning. So, I called them Thursday morning before 9 am to speak to Mr. Phu who was not in but I spoke to Joe, who at first could not tell me if my car was even there. Once we got past that he said he would call me once he took a look at it but could not give a time frame. I called back at about 11:30 am and spoke to Mr. Phu, who was very polite and explained that they had several cars left over from the day before and would not be able to look at my car until late in the afternoon but would call me when he knew what was wrong. I explained to him that my brake and abs light would stay on when car would not start. I gave Mr. Phu, my sister's house # to call me there instead. So, I waited. He called me back within an hour and half which was greatly appreciated. But then told me it was my starter and the estimate $$. He went on to tell me that he would have to order the part and would not receive it until the next day but would have it ready by 5:30pm. I let him know that I had to think about it and would call him back. He told me that in order to have the part there by the next day he would have to order the part by 2 pm which only gave me less than half an hour. I called him back with 15 min and spoke with Joe and let him know that I would not be having them do the work. That is when he told me that if I didn't have the work done that there would be a $40 charge for the diagnostics which I was not told when I first spoke to him at 9 am, he then put Mr. Phu on the phone. Who also explained the same and said ask any of his customers how he did good work, I refused to pay since this was not told to me upfront. I asked about towing the car same day or could it stay til the next day. He then told me that it would be a $20 per day for storage. I immediately had the car towed to my sisters house. Once it was in the drive way, I got in the car "lo and behold" the car started on the first try. I would not recommend them to any of my family members let alone to my worst enemy.

I read all of the reviews before coming to Phat Phu's shop. Everyone raved at how he was an extremely polite and professional man and how he went above and beyond to assist them. I saw none of that today Aug. 7, 2010 when I went. I called earlier in the week to get the price of a part supplied by myself, would cost to be installed. The price was good so I went in..at 10:30am. I just got home at 6:08pm. The person working on my car left in the middle of the job, barely accomplishing anything in 3.5 hours. Another person as well as Phat chipped in to help, he told me I had the wrong part. I had the correct part. He put a stock, smaller gasket back on and said the one I had was too small. It wasn't, and he charged me double then what he told me on the phone which I refused to pay. He raised his voice AND used profanity to me. I will be going back to have the gasket put on. Extremely unprofessional. Maybe because my part was mildly difficult, he could have just told me no and I would have been fine, but no. I had a terrible experience

*Update. Went back today (Monday) and Phat yelled at me again, tried to tell me my gasket was wrong. Then when I informed him I wasn't paying him to fix his mistake he put it on the lift, and with the help of his mechanics Mike and Junior, I installed the gasket fixing the problem, while every 20 seconds Phat came by heckling me because I said it was an easy thing to do. I've never felt so disrespected in my life, especially being a customer that paid good money for a service to be installed. The fact I worked on my own car and disproved the owner says something about him. He isn't open minded or willing to compromise/understand what the customer is going through. I pay for a service, I expect it to be correct/in working proper order. As a first time customer, I feel he could care less, his prices are a little inflated, and repeat customers love him/vice versa because they're getting what they want and he's getting paid what he wants. Absolutely terrible customer service. Great mechanics that help him out to make things run smoothly.

I am sorry that someone had a bad experience. I would encourage them to rethink it and know that it WAS a super unusual incident indeed. Normally any service charges for ANY estimate... Please answer me how MUCH did they charge for it ? I doubt it was a lot.
Newberry Road Imports are the BEST people, the best service, the most honest people I have seen in the world, and in America. I've lived in West Virginia, Miami, New York, Gainesville, Moscow and have NEVER seen more trustworthy mechanics. If anyone in the shop gives bad attitude or service, they don't last. Their reputation has been established for years. They will give you a choice to do aftermarket or brand-name parts, they may give you a break on pay half now-pay half later (if you are a student or whatever)... Their expertise is fantastic (you may ask for qualifications certificates)... The owner Phat has been trained, trained and trained, and he is the best example of the American dream of a simple, hard-working immigrant from Vietnam.
I ask again those who had bad experience to give it another chance.
Who am I ? Just a customer who was once referred to them and has been with them for years. I even made a small documentary on them... I now live in New York and Moscow and miss them a lot.

Newberry Road Imports has repeatedly gone out of their way to provide me good, quality service. I have been taking my VW there for the past four years. I have never had a bad experience. I have recommended Phat Phu's services to at least five friends, who have also been happy with their work. I was originally referred to them by a co-worker. I would recommend Newberry Road Imports without hesitation to anyone with a foreign car.

I just read the "Newberry Road Imports is a Rip Off"- and regretfully, I think that there will inevitably be a bad experience at any business, once in a while. I have yet to experience that at Phat Phu's, so that's good. Honestly, I'm quite confident with their work. The price tag is higher than most run of the mill shops, but it's worth the cost because I trust their work- and I drive a European car, so prices run high in general (and I can say it's way better than the only VW dealership in town).
So- I'm just writing this because sometimes people get on insiderpages to vent publically- rarely do they have a nice thing to say. A handful before me wrote good reviews, and I'm sure I won't be the last. Newberry Road Imports is my preferred shop, and until something terrible happens, I'm not inclined to trust my car with any other business in Gainesville.

Have you ever had to pay for an estimate of service that involved the mechanics walking around your car with flashlights, well I did. And was informed after only after the fact. Well they would wave the cost if I choose to get the full repairs they recommended. When asked how was I to know that I was going to be charged an estimate, the owner said well its my policy. I further asked where was it written and why didn't anyone inform me. He said "its my policy and I'm telling you now". I have filed complaints today with three consumer agencies. I was warned by someone before, but after getting a cheap oil change I though these guys were decent, boy was I wrong. The other reviews seem a little too good don't they??

I have been taking my car to Newberry Road Import for more than six years. They fixed multiple issues that Dealer service centers and national chain stores for auto repairs had failed to diagnose and repair. So, I started to throw away all discount coupons from other auto places. Mr. Phat Phu is knowledgeable, hard working, honest, and is always willing to give the best advice to his customers. All mechanics working in his shop seem to be there for a long time. They would never suggest unnecessary repairs, and try to find the good price without compromising functionality of the car and quality of the service.

I've been taking my car for more than a several years to this shop. The owner is knowledgeable, very friendly and hard working guy. I think he really understands that the what customers of auto-repair shop are looking for: trust. Their price is fair and job is quick. Even if they get busy because some things come up, they'll keep their word and get it done for you in timely manner. He's impressed me by his professionalism.

I've been taking my car to these guys for about a year now. Phat Fu is awesome. Really nice guy that owns the place and it very friendly to the customers. Their prices are usually very low or at least very competitive with other mechanics in Gainesville as far as I know. Very nice people. I would recommend for sure.

I have been taking my car to Phat, the owner, for many years. I have always trusted his work, and he consistently charges me the fairest prices possible and he always provides me with great service. He is a very genuine guy and will continue to bring my car back to him for any problems for as long as I live in Gainesville! Highly recommended.

This car shop managed by an asian. The manager is very kind. Sometimes they will have a discount or free service to students. When I bought my first car 2 years ago, I went to there to have car inspection for free. And the quality of their service is also excellent.
