Ratings_icons Childrens Urology Group is AWESOME!

I work for Pediatric Partner's of Winter Haven in the referral department and I think Children's Urology Group does an awesome job. Anytime I have a stat referral they always seem to find a spot to put our patient. And yes sometimes there is a wait but that's in all doctor's office's. Sometimes they do have emergencies and get backed up. But if that was your child you would want them to do their very best to make the child better and time wouldn't matter to you. I highly recommend them to all our patient's.

My son's mother and I were at odds against my son having a circumcision. After visiting with Dr. Kolligan initially he recommended the procedure from a false diagnosis of Phimosis. Although there were many other options that were not attempted to correct the problem of tightened foreskin first this was still the diagnosis he held to. I told Dr. Kolligan that I would like to try less aggressive techniques such as a steroid cream or stretching. After giving in eventually he gave a prescription for the cream. It healed within several weeks with the cream and I thought that was the end of it.
Several months later due to my son's mother not instructing him on proper hygiene the foreskin tightened again. Again, I asked for the cream and both the doctor and my son's mother resisted. The second time did not work as the cream was to be applied for several weeks( at least 4 according to all medical sources other than this doctor), and was not applied while my son was in the care of his mother at all. After two weeks I gave up the cream as his mother was resisting anything but the surgery. I had given up at this time and figured although the surgery wasn't medically necessary at the time and definitely not a medical emergency I would go with having the circumcision. I even mentioned to the doctor about a limited dorsal slit with transverse closure. Basically a more conservative procedure used that will keep the foreskin intact. He said they didn't know how to do the procedure. Its a funny thing, because it costs much less, and is proven to be less traumatic than a circumcision.
Now here is where the doctor really made a bad decision. Months passed and out of nowhere my son had the operation without my knowledge. My son's mother had set up an appointment for the surgery and had my son lie to me for a couple weeks to keep quiet about it. Now most of the blame for this situation is in the hands of my son's mother but, Dr. Kolligan should take some credit for this dirty deception. He talked with me while at my son's initial appointments and well knew full and clear that I was very interested in this situation, was not absent on any input and cared to know what was going to happen. Afterwards I called up and the office and they made as if they didnt know my son even had a father.
I believe that the doctor made a very bad decision that day as he knew I would have wanted to be there and clearly I was being left out of the decision for this operation and also left out of knowing that day that my son was going under full anesthesia to be operated on. I was informed hours later that night which was very rotten. He may very well be a good at what he does medically but, morally I think dollar signs were involved here.
Steroid cream/Stretching = Less than $30 a tube and a little patience
Circumcision = Hundreds to a couple thousand from the insurance company to fatten the Dr.'s Wallet
Basically what happened was he violated a major tenet of medical practice: First, Do no harm. Circumcision violates all seven Principles of Medical Ethics. Feel free to look at this link and find out why: http://www.ama-assn.org/ama/pub/category/2512.html
If you can I would stay away from this practice although it seems they have a monopoly in the field of childrens urology in the Tampa Bay area.

Ratings_icons The BEST Urologist in Florida!

When I was 5 months pregnant, an Ultrasound Technician diagnosed my unborn son with Hydronephrosis, of both kidney's. As a new mother I was alarmed and contacted the Nephrology department at All Children's Hospital. Dr. Pearlman agreed to see me and review my situation, she was wonderful and calmed my fears. It was Dr. Pearlmen who recommended Dr. Reisman, and now after two kidney surgeries (by the time my son was 9 months old), 2 MAG-3's and several office visits, I am ecstatic to say that my son is in excellent health. Dr. Reisman is a true patronage to the art of being a doctor... and you can tell he genuinely cares. Oh, and Joanie at the office (Dr. Reisman's Assistant) she is wonderful, if ever in doubt ask for her, she's awesome!

I took my son to Childrens Urology Group and Dr. Reisman was great. My baby was screaming the whole time while in the room, but Dr. Reisman was very patient and did not rush me at all. One thing that I didnt like, however, was the really long waiting time. Fortunately, their waiting room is pretty big .

We visited Dr. Kolligan at the request of our pediatrician. Upon our pediatricians request, he made time for us during a busy day at the hospital, and actually checked out my son in the waiting room within minutes of arrival. My son was only a few weeks old, so this was not inappropriate, but much appreciated.
