It's OK. I got a lunch special with a tuna roll, cucumber roll, and California roll. For the PRICE and AMOUNT of food - it's a great deal. However! It's not the best sushi ever. I would definitely have gone somewhere else, except I

we decided to give this place a try after a neighbor told us this is where they first got their sushi fix when they moved into brier creek...

we were tasu regulars but i personally wanted to drag people out their way just to try something different. it was a let down all around:

1. service wasn't great. i asked for a pencil to write down our big sushi order and i got the glare and silent treatment. yes i know it was very "other sushi place" of me, but it was a huge order... sorry, geeze.
2. the quality wasn't up to par
3. the rolls were dinky. that is the only way to describe them. and that is why even though they may be a bit cheaper than competition, they are likely more at the end of the day.
4. small, overpriced salad with a bland taste

however the owner (i assume) seemed nice enough though as she waved on our way out.

i just don't think they won us over :/

The price was right with the "buy 2 get 1 free" but the sushi was average, though the service was competent.

They atmosphere and service were all fine, and they did replace that terrible Tiger'sTear with another dish of our choice, no extra charge, but something really seemed off about that entree!

Pros: Sushi was wonderful!

Cons: Tiger's Tear was AWFUL!

The con's line says it all. Our order was wrong. The wait staff was rude. The service took forever. If the place had been crowded I might have understood, but it wasn't. The taste of the food was blah and the portions not appropriate for the price.

We won't be going back.

There seem to be a lot of places around Briar Creek selling sushi, but this one is the best. A little pricier than some of the others, but way better quality. My stomach and I would rather pay more to get fresh, than get half off elsewhere and not get fresh. Well worth it.

UPDATE: I am submitting a fraud complaint to the consumer protection agency at the Attorney General's office. To those of you who have been scammed by Champa, I urge you to do the same; the more evidence they gather, the quicker they can do something about it!

I became a regular at Champa pretty quickly...they had GREAT food, and the buy one get one free sushi deal couldn't be beaten.

Yesterday, I took a visiting relative there with my husband. We ordered lots of food, and half of our order was wrong. I'm not the kind of customer who complains and sends things back (after having worked in fast food), so I told them we'd keep what we got as long as the prices didn't change on the bill. Sure enough, we were charged for the accident roll I got (double what my original order cost). I pointed it out to him, and he told me his manager would only let him discount it, and I settled for that. We tipped well and left.

I just checked my credit card, and they ADDED MONEY TO THE TIP. They are CON ARTISTS. This happens frequently at restaurants because people leave a tip on credit and don't check their cards later.

I will never be eating at Champa again, and apparently I'm not alone (see several posts below mine and on previous pages).

EDIT: I called and spoke to the UNBELIEVABLY RUDE manager, who tried to tell me that them changing the tip on my bill was done by the bank. Don't bother thinking about trying Champa.

We like this restaurant and have returned a number of times, especially on, I believe it is Tuesday night, when there was live jazz. Service is spotty and it can take an age, but usually the restaurant is full, so I guess they are busy.

The food varies in quality and is inconsistent. That said, we have not had a really bad meal there, but sometimes the flavor is not all there. I would not go here purely for sushi, there are many better sushi places, and Champa's sushi is not cheap.

However, the Pad Thai is always excellent and is one of the best examples in the triangle with none of that funky red sauce some of the Thai-fusion places in the area throw on it. It is sweet, sour and savory and quite well balanced.

The Thai tea is also good.

I think the place could be cleaner, however, and the wait staff could be less abrupt and not look over their shoulders the whole time for their next table while taking your order.

With a bit of work this place could be great.

Awesome food. Love the sushi and the drunken noodles is just to die for. Price is slightly on the higher side, though it is worth it most of the time.

Great Sushi and Pad Thai! Good, quick service but there can be a wait at lunch at dinner because it is a pretty popular place. Highly recommended

i went here last night and thought it was pretty average. the presentation of the food is nice and the service is really friendly, but the food itself is just all right--not worth the high prices especially with the portion sizes. you won't leave hungry but you won't have any leftovers either. the items i really like here are the pad kao and basil fried rice, but even those i don't think are worth the money--$13 at restaurant for a plate of rice i can make at home? as for the sushi, ive had it here a few times and it's decent. in general id say this is a good place to take a date, and it's definitely one of the better options at brier creek (though that's not saying much). but if you're looking for an authentic family-style thai meal or lots of good sushi then go elsewhere.

I found I was charged more than pre-authorization. I faxed and notified the restaurant but they did not get back with me. Just correct the amount. Just not a pleasant place for me to go again.

I love thai food and always try out the pad thai to determine if a place has good food. Theirs was pretty uninspired and I determined right away that this place wasn't worth it. The prices are higher than most thai places, and the food is really bland. The decor also feels cold. Skip this one.

I used to love eating here but the prices have gotten out of control and the food isnt as good as it used to be. Its one of the only places local that I can find the yummy drunken noodles that I love.

I dont know what has changed with Champa, but I wish that it could change back to how it was when they first opened!

I've been here for lunch several times and I usually get the chicken cashew. Yummy! My husband likes the curry and the soup. It can get crowded -- as its not very big inside - but its conveniently located in Brier Creek.

I've been to Champa over 10 times. The reason I stopped going is because of the inconsistency. The sushi is really good sometimes and just so so other times. The service can be really good. There is one waitress that knows us by name and if we are seated in her section then all is well. Otherwise, it's very slow and my husband who orders Thai always gets his food way earlier (sometimes 15 min) than I get my sushi. It's as if there are two separate restaurants. I love their lobster rolls and the prices are very comprable and the place is so convenient. .. and yet my husband and I often will pass it up. When they have music in there, it's too loud. We've received poor service here and there and really for the price we would simply rather go to Sushi Thai in cary. Sushi Thai can get very busy but they are always hustling to get you your food as soon as possible. There is always some wait when you order sushi at ANY restaurant because they are hand made but at Champa it is AGAIN in consistent. It's very frustrating. I know on Sat. nights at Waraji I can not be in a hurry the same with Sushi Thai. But if the food and service is excellent you mind less. When even the food is inconsistent you worry.

We are regulars at this restaurant and every time we are very pleased with the food. As we are not the pickiest customers in terms of service and don?t like servers jumping around us too much, I have never noticed the staff being unprofessional as the other reviewer mentioned. The food, mainly sushi, is what we go there for and are always pleased with the quality and selection. The service is fast, so it is our favorite place for lunch, as we work in RTP. I would recommend it to anyone, who is not looking for a server standing at their table through the entire meal time. Yes, they are very busy in the evenings, and yes, they are very popular!

With so many excellent restaurants in the Triangle area I've gotten spoiled with the the "triple threat" restaurants: spectular food, delightful atmosphere and professional staff. In an attempt to make reservations, the male that answered the phone told us "no reservations and expect an hour wait because we are wildly popular". When asked if the wait time could be reduced by arriving early, he responded by saying "I don't have time for this" and hanging up. Given our country's current economic uncertainty and potentially less discretionary spending - I'd rather spend my money where it's appreciated. Not a champ - Champa!

If it the service was a lot better, and prices a little less, there would be no reason to complain. Every visit has played out exactly the same. The waitresses/waiters all walk around aloof. Food takes too long to come out. Each time, it was at least 10 minutes before even our drink orders were taken. Its been up to 30 minutes before an appetizer/meal order was taken. For the most part, the sushi is inconsistent. It ranges from bad to pretty darn good. I have had burned tempura and crab in rolls as well. There has been instances where the texture of the fish has been off. But when it seems like the chefs want to pull it together, its actually very good.

Mura and Waraji are both offer much better service and the food is always great.

I have been there twice. The serving staffs did not seem to want to be there both times. Thai food was ok, but there was a price jump in the dinner menu just 1 week after my first visit, and the portion seems to have gone down, so I was pretty disappointed. Not sure if I will go back there.

I go to Champa once every two weeks or so for either lunch or dinner. While the service is a little slow at times, I have not had problems with it. For lunch I recommend the chicken noodle bowl or Thai spicy basil. All of the food I've had there is excellent. In fact, although I love sushi, I've never tried it because the Thai food is so tempting. Everyone I know who's eaten there absolutely loves it.

Update: Avoid this restaurant like the plague. The restaurant would sneak additional charges on your bill! We asked for Vegetarian Drunken Noodle (10.95$). The bills comes out as 11.95$. When we asked, they said that since they added tofu, they add $1. But we never asked for that in the first place! The owner said we should have say something when we see that there are additional items on our plate. That's ridiculous?! I am boycotting this restaurant for good - and making sure that no one I know will go there.

Original review:
Horrible service here. If it's not, service is only mediocre at best. It was so much better when they first opened the restaurant. It went down the drain after they asked the ?family/relatives? to wait tables. Rude Staff!

Personally, I've never order sushi here. As far as Thai food, it's average. Best dish here is the drunken noodle - according to my g/f. I've had better meals at Taste of Thai on Falls of Neuse.

I eat often at this restaurant. I usually order the Spicey Thai Basil Beef or the Red Curry Chicken. Both of these dishes are fantastic. I have tried several of the other dishes and they are also very good. The Pad Thai is good too. My wife loves the Sushi here. I think the service could improve, but it has not made my experience at Champa unpleasant. However, we have noticed that the workers will take a cigarette break at go immediately back to working without washing their hands.

To-go sushi orders w/multiple sushi rolls are usually missing something (70% of the time), so check your bag. Service is haughty and rude. Management is aloof, rude, and seems bothered by your presence. I continue to go back b/c sushi is BEST I've ever had, though quality is INCONSISTENT. I think I've figured it out -- go when they're not busy, get awesome sushi. Go when biz is booming, you're playing the lotto. (Fish might be warm and/or not fresh -- texture is off) Prices are way too high, but some of the rolls are well worth it (Double 5!), others are average.

Overall NOT recommended. Sushi highly recommended if you get certain rolls and go when it's not busy.

I'm surprised at some of the comments regarding this restaurant. My husband and I go there at least once a week and always receive excellent service and food quality. They are by far my favorite sushi restaurant and I drive over 25 miles just to go there.

The Thai food was ok, I had better and less inexpensive. We stood around for a while and none of the staff acknowledged us so we sat ourselves. The restaurant was pretty chilly, they need better insulated doors or something. The food takes forever to come out. There sushi is pretty good and that's really the only good thing. So overall food is ok, sushi pretty good, price is pretty high when u can go somewhere else for better tasting food, service was very poor.

So overall food is ok, sushi pretty good, price is pretty high when u can go somewhere else for better tasting food, service was very poor.

Pros: sushi

Cons: staff

.

I've eaten here three times. Each time the food has had excellent flavor. Service was good. Nice semi-causual place to dine.

My friend and I received very bad service at this restaurant. Upon entering we were told rather coldly to sit by the window. After some time we noticed some of the wait staff staring at us, yet noone came to take our drink order. A short time later after this same behavior continued and noticing that the prices were somewhat expensive we decided that enough was enough so we left.

Must eat here! Wide selection of appetizers, reasonably priced martini specials, and AWESOME THAI FOOD distinguish Champa from the rest. Sushi selection is huge and comes out fresh. Tom Kha soup, while it may cost $13, and seem on the high side, is served in a volcano bowl with a side of rice and would easily serve two people- a meal itself! Veggie Spring Rolls come out piping hot with a wonderful sweet and tangy sauce for dipping, and their PAD THAI is the most flavorful I've had. Evidently, the restaurant is under new management and the changes are already evident. Visit before the usual dinner rush for best experience. Highly recommended!!

My wife and I walked in and were ignored, so we helped ourselves to a peak at the menu. I always order the Tom Kha soup to start, but when we saw it was priced at $13 we immediately left. I can't comment on the food itself, but I am completely certain that their soup isn't three times as good as the average, which it would need to be at that price!

After my 3rd or 4th visit to this restaurant, I certainly see a pattern. The food is always good, the service is absolutely horrible. During each visit, there was a discrepancy between what was ordered and what was received, took way too long to get the food, no refilling on water and, during my last visit, two of us received our dinners 15 minutes after the others at the table had received theirs and, thus, were already finished, but the time we began to eat. I'm a little shocked given the number of good Asian restaurants around, that they can survive.

I find the service and attitude of this restaurant to be so appalling that it needs mentioning. This weekend was our last visit to Champa. The service here is so consistently missing-in-action that it is shocking. Poor service is one thing VIRTUALLY NONEXISTING and BELLIGERENT service is another. Some of the items of concern include:

No acknowledgement of customers entering the restaurant

Presence of wait staff is extremely inconsistent

Excessive time to get your food

Incredibly rude attitude of the Manager

The fact that this restaurant has remained successful is due to proximity alone in the very busy Brier Creek shopping center. The sushi is acceptable at best. The poor service alone is enough to drive what would be loyal customers away. Is the owner UNAWARE of the image that he and his staff present? I doubt it. The impression is that they just dont care.

The service here is very poor. We waited over 25 minutes for our sushi to arrive and when it came, the order was wrong. The waitress acted like it was our fault and was unpleasant for the rest of our meal. The sushi was average and overpriced. Even though this is the closest sushi restaurant to my house, I'll be driving the extra distance to avoid this place.

Warm sushi is not my thing... At least chill the plates or do something that tells me you're trying.. Unimpressive, unoriginal and overpriced. Typical Brier Creek.

Went in to order two sushi rolls with my wife, a bowl of miso soup and hot tea each. The bill came to $26. Yes you read that correctly - 26 dollars for two sushi rolls!

After looking at the bill - we were charged $3 each for a bowl of miso soup (usually free or a buck or so), and $4 for tea.. EACH (huh??). Eight dollars for two cups of tea. Worst off - neither of these (tea or soup) were listed on the menu with prices, we simply asked for them, and were never warned of the outrageous price. I felt swindled.

The sushi is actually pretty good - a bit expensive, but be careful what you order unless you have a full wallet. There are better places and we will not return.

Champa is my favorite Thai restaurant! It's rather inexpensive and its food quality is unsurpassed as compared to the food I've had at other local Thai places. In fact, my wife and I also think Champa has THE BEST SUSHI of any place we've been in the Triangle area!!! I can't say enough good things about Champa...it truly is a unique gem amid the monotonous suburban sprawl of chain restaurants. If you like Thai food, or sushi, Champa is a must try!!! Their Pad Thai is amazing too! The ambience wont leave you speechless, but lets face it, you dont go to a Thai restaurant for ambience, you go for the food!

I've had two kinds of Thai noodles here Pad See U and Pad Thai and both were excellent. They were not spicy enough for me, but that can be fixed by requesting them to add more pepper. The service was EXCELLENT. Very fast, curteous and helpful. The atmosphere could benefit from a little less light and more seclusion. The prices were a bit high too, but the food was great. In general, I would highly reccomend this restaurant for really good Thai food.

There are lots of thai restaurants in the area which is great because it means you do not have to tolerate poor service. Between the poor service, mediocre food at above average prices and the blaring frenetic music (not that I don't like loud electronic dance music - just not with my dinner), we won't go back. Too bad because it's also the closest thai restaurant to our house.

Me and my wife had to wait 15 minutes at the door before we were told we had 45 minutes wait for dinner.
